In Romeo and Juliet and in life, hasty decisions can heavily affect the outcome of the story and your life. In William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, hasty decisions heavily affect the tragic outcome of the play. One of Shakespeare's most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet is a play about two star-crossed lovers who will go through anything to be with each other. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare reveals how hasty decisions can lead to catastrophe through events such as Romeo’s exile, Tybalt’s death, and the two star-crossed lover’s death. The first example of how hasty decisions can have consequences is through the exile of Romeo. Romeo’s exile came after he stated, “This shall determine that” (Shakespeare 3.1 138) This quote …show more content…
This quote reveals the theme of hasty decisions in Romeo and Juliet as the hasty decision by Tybalt to fight Romeo led to his own death. Although the death of Tybalt was sad, the death of another two characters completely changed the outcome of the play. The last example of how hasty decisions can lead to catastrophe is through the death of the two star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. While being forced to marry Paris, Juliet is planning to run away with Romeo to Mantua. While talking Juliet says, “Give me, give me! O, tell not me of fear!” (Shakespeare 4.1 123) This quote comes after Friar Lawrence tells Juliet of a plan to fake her death. She immediately agrees without even thinking of the consequences. This hasty decision to forever be with Romeo will come back to haunt her. While she is under the spell Romeo sees Juliet and immediately kills himself while saying, “Here’s to my love! O true apothecary, Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.” (Shakespeare 5.3 119-120) This quote shows without even thinking Romeo hastily kills himself. If Romeo waited a couple of minutes more, or even confronted Friar about Juliet, they could have lived happily ever after. Instead, Romeo and
In William Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet, we meet the characters and how their actions led to a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet met, end up falling in love, and – since both cannot dream of living without the other – take their lives. While the play ends in a tragic death for both characters, it was their own reckless decisions; though others might believe that it was destiny that played a large role in the lovers’ downfall. However, the majority of the text evidence points to them making their own choices leading to their demise.
Thinking ahead to what might come of your actions in the next few minutes or hours is crucial to understand what you should and should not do. If the following characters considered the short-term results of what they planned to do, maybe things would have turned out better. A good example of this is of Romeo, from the play, Romeo and Juliet. Tybalt, a rival of his due to a family feud, just killed Mercutio. Out of rage and grief, Romeo killed Tybalt. This action ended up getting him banished from the city, which lead to his and Juliet’s death. Another example of short-term consequences is with Jack, from the Lord of The Flies novel. In an attempt to flush out or kill Ralph, Jack sets a fire in the forest. This idiotic move ended up setting the whole forest on fire nearly killing everyone. If Jack took a second to realize what would come of setting the bush on fire, the forest would have not burnt to a crisp.
One person that had an impact of the outcome of the play was Friar Laurence because of the three things he caused and that was broken heartbreak, confusion, and death. All of this happened with the decisions he made while trying to help Romeo and Juliet with their love for each other. You would think since friar Laurence is a priest he would be a peace maker and know what is right for everyone. Even though he was just trying to help the two star crossed lovers, he will find himself in trying to explain his mistakes.
Tybalt's actions and the consequences caused by his death prove that he’s most responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s tragic conclusion. This argument is about how Tybalt’s actions, which lead to his death, ultimately influenced and caused the deaths of Romeo and Juliet compared to other characters and variables. This persuasive essay will discuss the Capulet’s early marriage arrangement for Juliet, Romeo’s banishment from Venora, Friar Lawrence’s potion, opposing arguments, the tragic ending, and how Tybalt is the most responsible for these major events. Tybalt holds the most influence and responsibility for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because of his explosive behavior, the consequences of Mercutio’s death and Romeo’s banishment, and even when
Romeo makes hasty decisions that end up harming him and the people he loves. In scene three of act five, Romeo drinks the poison to end his life as he proclaims, “Here’s to my love! O true apothecary, Thy
Conclusion: Tybalt and his personality cause him and other people to make decisions without thinking leading to the death of Romeo and Juliet. Everything started when Tybalt accidently stabs and kills mercutio.
Another example of this attitude is that they both rushed into getting married, even though they had only known each other for a very short period of time. I also think Romeo was too hasty in rushing back to Verona after hearing the news about Juliet's death. If he had stayed in Mantua longer then both Romeo and Juliet would have lived. Also, if he had a more 'easy going' personality, maybe he would not have killed himself so quickly when he was in the Capulet vault. Romeo seems to have a premonition of his own death, before the Capulet ball he says, "I fear, too early: for my mind misgives
Occasionally everyone makes atrocious decisions, and usually, these choices do not cause an enormous negative impact on their future. In the classic Romeo and Juliet, the outcome of the characters’ demise is a result of their fast pace-decisions, their ignorance/assumptions, and their lack of ability in accepting responsibility.
A third example of poor decision making is by less important characters, although less important their mistakes affect Romeo and Juliet in a very large way. Sampson and Gregory starting a fight caused the prince to hit his limit and declare death on the next person to disturb the peace in Verona. Mercutio makes two major mistakes affecting Romeo, firstly was to tell Romeo to play the field and go to the party despite his feelings, leading to him meeting and kissing Juliet. A second mistake Mercutio made was to fight Tybalt, when he died Tybalt just wanted to keep going and kill Romeo as well. When the Prince discovers Romeo has killed Tybalt, even if Tybalt was at fault he must keep his promise and banishes Romeo to Mantua. Romeos banishment is what leads to the desperate plans of both Romeo and
In the play Romeo and Juliet there are lots of events that lead to the death of the two main characters. There are many people responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet and some of these characters are Tybalt, Capulet and Friar Lawrence.
The world moves so fast, but the haste in people’s decisions lead to dreadful consequences. These haste decisions have become the downfall of the world. This is shown in the play “Romeo & Juliet”, where two star-crossed lovers are forced to keep their love a secret from their families. Also forcing them to get married in secret then to never live together. Shakespeare shows the audience how making hasty decisions may lead to dire consequences through Juliet’s decision to marry Romeo, Juliet’s choice to drink the potion given to her by Friar Lawrence, and Juliet’s decision to kill herself with Romeo’s dagger.
“Unreasonable haste is the direct road to error”(Moliere). This quote mirrors a theme in William Shakespeare’s play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. This play is about two lovers from opposing families which make a series of reckless decisions which lead to the death of many people including themselves. In William Shakespeare’s play, he conveys through the motif of hasty decisions that, while the quick decisions which are caused by emotions may seem appealing, ultimately these decisions have repercussions and lead to violence of others. Lust, hatred, and sadness are all emotions which have immense consequences when they guide one’s decisions.
Once in a while many people make bad decisions. Usually these decisions don’t cause them any harm in their futures, unlike Romeo Montague’s and Juliet Capulet’s decisions. In Verona, a city in Italy, two lovers fall in love. The catch is their families despise each other. Eventually Romeo get’s banished from Verona, and Juliet is forced to marry someone she doesn’t want to marry. Juliet takes a potion that knocks her out for 42 hours, and feigns her death, hoping she does not have to marry Count Paris. Romeo assumes Juliet is dead, and drinks a potion that kills him, and when Juliet wakes up and realizes that Romeo is dead, she stabs herself. In William Shakespeare’s tragic play, Romeo and Juliet, the main protagonists, Romeo and Juliet,
The irresponsible decisions made by Friar Laurence in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, lead to fatal consequences. Friar Laurence made thoughtless decisions that could have easily been much more successful. The Friar constructed plans that were made within minutes and did not consider the more consequential outcomes. Even though Friar Laurence strived to help Romeo and Juliet’s marriage work, it resulted in drastic consequences because his decisions were impulsive and reckless.
The hasty decisions from Romeo and Juliet result in their tragedy. For example, they decide to get married so quickly. When Romeo is talking to the Friar about marrying Juliet and him, the Friar states, “Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast.”(2.3.94). The Friar is explaining that slow, thought out decisions will be successful,
