In 1994 two types of sites directories and search engines are came into being,basically directories give user a path by those commands user get the ultimate destination,directories should be comprehensive and coherent and easy to understand. Some examples of directories includes Yahoo! , snap! , looksmart and northenlite . While in search engines user give words key and that search engine compiled such keywords from web page into database which user could query. These search engines continuously update their information to provides the accurate and actual result of users search. Example of search engines includes alta vista,lucos and excite. Portals performed five basic functions which includes search service,content,community building feature,commerce offering,personal productivity application Search service As name shows this function provides search facility to end user such as “people finder” which allows to find your friends by providing their numbers or names
