Harry Truman Accomplishments

At this time period of time, President Harry Truman needs to take into account that the Japanese are unlikely to surrender without some heavy persuasion. The Japanese have already attacked at Pearl Harbor, and there is no sign that they will stop anytime soon. Japan is attempting to create more allies to form a strong and dangerous coalition that will threaten the United States and its allies. Fortunately, scientists in the United States have been working on an atomic bomb and now would be the perfect opportunity to utilize it to end the Japanese empire. Rather than authorizing a ground invasion of Japan or negotiating the Japanese terms of surrender, President Truman should use the atomic bomb against Japan to cause a swift surrender of the Japanese empire for the purposes of maintaining global power and preserving the lives of as many American soldiers as possible.

As Vice President, Harry S. Truman seldom saw President Roosevelt, therefore acquiring no updates on the progress of the atomic bomb or the developing predicament with Communist Russia. After Roosevelt’s unexpected death, these dilemmas as well as an array of wartime problems became Truman’s to resolve as the new president. When he came into office on April 2nd, 1945, World War II was nearing its end, leaving Europe in absolute chaos. Truman had to search for ways to aid the country in picking up the pieces from war. George S. Patton was one of the most highly regarded and successful military leaders in the history of the United States. His military career spanned from the expedition into Mexico throughout WWII. His ability to inspire his troops with his profane filled speeches and his position of always leading from the front gained him vast popularity and fame. Many political leaders considered him too controversial and intemperate at times. This reputation often overshadowed his determination and success as a commander. His bravery and many contributions to several of America’s war efforts has established him as one of the greats in American military history.

Harry Truman was born in Lamar Missouri on May 8 1884 to Mattie and John Anderson Truman. Harry Truman's mother and father were unable to decide on his middle name: the two names considered where first name of Mattie's father, Solomon, and the first name of John's father, Shipp. Following a practice not uncommon among those of Scotch-Irish ancestry, Mattie and John Truman gave their son the one letter middle name of "S". Harry's early years were spent on Mattie's father's farm, and "Grandpa Young" adored the boy. No doubt Grandpa Young's fondness of the child contributed to the contentment he enjoyed during his boyhood, the carefree circumstances that led Truman in his later years to become fond of saying he had the happiest childhood imaginable.

Depending on how old you are, it is possible that you have experienced many great presidents throughout your lifetime. Every single person in this world has their own view as to what a president’s role in the world should be, and how their values should reflect them. So far, the United States has gone through 42 Presidents who have all offered many new ideas that have aided our country tremendously. One of these great men was our 33rd President, Harry S. Truman who was thrown into the presidents’ seat on April 12, 1945 when Franklin Delano Roosevelt died suddenly.

Over seventy years ago, one may have thought that one of most courageous, hard-working, honest, and loyal men was sworn into office as the President of the United States. Harry S. Truman was considered “One Tough Son –of-a-Bitch” due to his expertise, not because of his ordinary, basic look or lack of college education. No matter how people perceived him, Truman had industrial-strength; he stood his ground on his beliefs. His life would take him one of the most elaborate rides one could experience. Truman’s formative years taught him endurance, his life in the war taught him courage, and presidency taught him resilience.

Since the founding of the United States of America, many presidents have worked tirelessly in their posts to change our country for the better. Some have seen abounding success, while others have met a slow decline from glory.  Of all of these generally noble and brave men, one especially has stood out; Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a remarkable idealist of a man and an amazing vehicle for change in America. While in office, this dignified man demonstrated many positive qualities, such as unrelenting optimism, heartfelt concern for both the populace and the land of America, and fierce determination to accomplish his goals.

Lyndon B. Johnson had only served one term, but he surprisingly accomplished a lot during his only term. Johnson had the ability to pass the acts that Kennedy created during his time in office. Some of these accomplishments include: Medicare and Medicaid, Education acts, and the Civil Rights acts. In order to continue his war on poverty, he established Medicare and Medicaid to aid poor families and the elderly. To further help families in need, as well as children, Johnson passed education acts to fix and create more public schools in poor areas. Lastly, civil rights acts were passed to give better opportunities for blacks within the United States. While these acts were based on Kennedy's ideas, Johnson found the way to put them into place.

James Frances Ryan is a private of the military during World War One. After his mother has receive condolences letters stating that three of her four sons have been killed in combat, there is an urgent need to save private Ryan and bring him home. Throughout this entire film, I felt a sense of pride and uneasiness. I felt pride because of the fact that our country took into consideration the way that this mother has to feel after losing three of her four children and the need to save her last child so that he can return home to comfort her. I felt a sense of uneasiness because I knew that despite the fact that they were doing this out of the good in their hearts, it wouldn’t be an easy task to complete because lives would be lost since they are still at war. Not only to they have to fight for their lives but also try to find another person who they’ve never met and get him back safely. There are 3 specific scene throughout this film that I believe are crucial to the understanding and the emotions I felt while watching it.

In Martin Luther King Jr.’s letter, he had a lot on his mind while sitting in Birmingham’s jail. He usually did not answer to the questioning and criticism of his ideas; however, he decided to give his reasoning for his actions in Birmingham. King states that Birmingham has injustice; while others may sit around and watch, he believes that if injustice is in one place it affects everywhere and everyone. Waiting for their Constitutional rights, black people were getting beaten and harassed every day. As he watched all of this happen, he noticed a huge gap between a law being just and unjust. Many people will alter these laws to where a law is unjust in its purpose. King reverts back to the past when civil disobedience is not new; it has shown up for years against Jews, Romans, and Communists. He concludes that he is not afraid and that African Americans will reach their goal of freedom all over the nation. After reading Martin Luther King Jr.’s, “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” he uses effective logos, pathos, and ethos to persuade the nation to fight for justice.

Student athletes are put the ringer day in and day out to perform in the sport they love. Specifically those sports of high revenue: football and basketball. College sporting events originally did not draw in enormous amounts of revenue. The NCAA was originally designed for everyone to be amateur; coaches, players, television contracts, and the university. Most scholars believe student athletes should be paid because of the evolution in college athletics; meaning how much revenue the universities are making. Now that there has been such drastic change throughout the years in college athletics; should there be a change in how the universities compensate the players?
