Harris Burdick Narrative - The Third-Floor Bedroom
Jason glanced through the car window as his father pulled into the driveway of their new house, dirty and plain. Their family had moved from Texas into a house in the misty woods with the nearest city, Flora, half a mile away. I don’t like this place thought Jason. “You’ll make some friends soon, son,” his father said to him as if he had read his mind. “You’ll start school in a few weeks.” Jason had no response. His father had decided to move because of a job offer in Flora, involving lumber. Jason surveyed the house. It was a standard house with three floors, one of them the attic. “Grab some boxes Jason!” his father called, interrupting Jason’s train of thought. Maybe this won’t be so bad Jason thought as he lifted a box of lamps. After all, he did like the quietness of the woods as opposed to Texas. “Not bad, eh?” said Jason’s father, patting him on his back. “It’s okay,” Jason admitted. “Once we clean up here and there, it’ll look beautiful!” his father chirped. Rolling his eyes, Jason thought that his father was the happiest and most naive person in the world. He was

Jason froze. He slowly turned around. One of the outside guards had seen Jason walk in. “What are you doing here?” he barked. Jason was paralyzed with fear. If he allowed himself to be taken, he might as well say goodbye to the future. Jason decided to run but grabbed an extra hydrogen canister. Jason turned the corner and ducked behind a box. The guard should have called for backup, but he decided against it. He was just a kid! This would be no problem. He rounded the corner just as a blast of compressed hydrogen reached his face. Jason had opened the other canister just as the guard turned. The guard was propelled into a wall from the force and was out cold. Panting, Jason ran out of the building and left when the guards
In this analysis I will call into question the newsworthiness and privacy issues found in the problematic Love and Radio episode “The Living Room.” Love and Radio describes the podcast as an “intimate, but very one-sided relationship,” and this description should not be taken lightheartedly. Though a beautifully crafted story about loss and the human experience, Diane Weipert’s “experience” with complete strangers comes off as creepy and unethical, during a time in mass media where intrusion equals newsworthiness. This analysis assumes this podcast is a work of nonfiction, not a fictional story as some listeners have suggested.
“I grew up there, thought I’d spend my entire life calling that city ‘Home.’ But it didn’t workout that way. I learned to love it here too,” Dustin told his neighbour’s grandkids, remembering the horrific event that tore him away from his home and ended his career. His neighbour, Sally, and her family were the only people who accepted Dustin; they shared something in common, the disaster. Sally lost her husband in the tragedy that destroyed Dustin’s once handsome face.
Jeff stepped out of the car doubtfully on that first day. The face was plain, green, and colonial, and the garage held only one car. This was hardly the house of his dreams. The boys, however, did not hesitate. Slamming doors, they ran across the yard and began playing among the six stately columns of a giant poplar tree. Before long, weekends and vacations were spent cutting limbs and vines and pulling holly stumps. Now there is an endless play of light and shade. The breeze lifts, leaves dance, treetops sway, and I can
They go home to try to look for answers. Jeremy searches up the name of the guy who sent the box. They find an office located in a building which they would only be able to access if they took the subway and the bus. Jeremy is afraid of leaving the little community of his, but understands that he need to learn about the outside if he wants to be a normal teenage boy.
Daniel grunts, holding his head. “What…” He stopped briefly to sit up. “What happened? Where am I?” Daniel got up and braced himself against the wall. He could barely see anything. He glanced to the light fixture. “Ah crap!” He yelled, turning his head away quickly. He could hear the echo from the yell as it went through the hallways. Daniel got himself on his feet, slightly dazed. He notices the dark outlines of the boxes in the room. It appears as though Daniel is in another storage room.
The malicious glint in the man’s eyes sent a trickle of unease to dance at the base of his spine and the thickening air around him was a snake, threatening to drain the life out of him. It did nothing to abate his fears as the man stepped up, right arm raised with something that appeared to be a syringe in his hand. In the faint light, he caught sight of a sadistic smile from the man in the lab coat that sent numbing fear creeping across his skin and seeping into his soul. Leonard feverishly attempted to fight his way out of the straps that held him prisoner like he did the other million times, but to no
The town was nothing the family had seen before, and that's only the first part of what they would come too love about it. They could already tell that this place was gonna be good. After a short while, the family noticed the sign on top of all the beautiful things.
“ Alright agent, go through the back door,” Chief Ralph stated. As Chief Ralph snuck up to the front door and listened for any noises. “ The front yard and porch is clear,” Chief Ralph stated quietly into the walkie talkie. “10-4,” Agent Mike replied. “ Let’s go under the house,” Agent Mike stated. So they check under the house and find nothing ,but a snake and a couple of rats. “ I’m going to check the cars for any weapons or people,” Chief Ralph stated. A few minutes later he says, “ Cars are clear.”
“There’s that box in your room, isn’t there?” called Mom. “Get one out of there.”
Medea (Takes off wig &Yells): I told you that I was going to get you back for what you did Jason!
“Noooooooo” I screamed dropping to the floor. My parents stopped in their tracks and stared at me, their faces confused. “Why do we have to move, I just had the best day ever at school. You wouldn’t even believe what happended.” I ran up to my mom and dad and asked them why we had to move again. “Well…” he replied starting out slowly, “The grape season is over and we have to go find a place to make some money for our family to live. You want ths family to stay healthy right, Panchtio?” I sighed sadly “Fine.” then I walked away, tears almost dropping down my face as I sat down on a box. I didn’t like this idea at all, but I had to do anything to help my family survive with a good place to live and a job.
"Hey mom, what did you need?" She says holding a plate with cookies on it. "This is Niall, could you show him up to his room please?" She says with a gentle smile. Gemma nods grabbing my bags and heading up the stairs. I follow her quietly up the stairs and down the hallway to a room with two wide doors. She opens them quickly and walks over to the bed, laying my suitcases on top of the bed. "Wow, this room is amazing." I say looking all around. "Yeah it is!" Gemma says with a little laugh. I start unpacking my things and once i'm finished i head back downstairs and walk into the kitchen. In their I see Ann, and her son Harry cooking dinner. "It smells amazing in here" I say standing in the doorway. Ann turns around and smiles. "Niall come on in, Harry this is Niall, he will be staying with us from now on." She says. "Hey i'm Harry, nice to meet you" Harry says with a bit of an annoyed tone. "Nice to meet you too" I say shaking his hand. "Dinner will be done soon, so you can sit at the counter if you'd like. There is tea and soda in the fridge if you'd like something to drink, and the cups are in that cabinet above the fridge." She

He and his sons cut the tree limbs that threatened his home and put up a hammock that he would enjoy with his children. The green fields
When we arrived at Andrew’s house, well really his mom’s house that was away for the summer in Florida, we went to his backyard, where there was an old moldy wooden shed and thick, dried grass that looked like it hadn’t been cut in months. Andrew and two of his friends, Ashley and Ryan, were sitting around the back
