The businesses and products I chose happened to be, Nike and their Mercurial football boots, and Sony and their PS3 gaming console. I chose these products because I think they are both reasonably diverse, and in their time, both these products have experienced a range of sections within the product life cycle.

The highly recognized name brand—Nike— fails to notice the faults that are happening in factories that are violating a few disturbing rules. The company’s reputation has decreased due to demands and claims Nike; implying that they utilize sweatshops to produce more products at a lower pay. The company has been sued numerous times for abusing and exploiting their employees in factories for years. Another problem that Nike has faced throughout the years was making employees work in poor environments that affected the health of many— which contributed to being abused by the manager for not going to work. Nike is one of the most well established companies who sponsor famous athletes that impact their buyers in a more inspirational and positive way. Although Nike has been keeping their illegal sweatshops in hiding and not revealing the truth to its consumers. Nike could solve these problems of their illegal sweatshops and fix their business image and still be one of the biggest companies.

Since the 1990s, Nike has been embroiled in controversy over its use of sweatshops. Including numerous media reports of workers earning very little an hour (14 cents per hour), and even workers abused by sub-contractor (Allarey, 2015). Incidents such as these are ingrained in Nike’s history and not quickly forgotten. However, as CEO I would like to attempt to correct wrongs.

Putting small farmers out of business, a history of paying lobbyists to block government regulations on genetically modified organisms, destroying the environment, lacking testing on their products; these are all characteristics of Monsanto’s company. Monsanto is a company that provides the largest producer of genetically engineered seeds (Neuman). Monsanto’s corporation is a danger to our health and environment.

People may think all human experimentation is ethical and happens under supervised, and controlled conditions with the consent of the person. This wasn’t the case in Nazi Germany. The Nazi’s performed some of the most inhumane, disturbing human experiments documented by man. The Nazi’s saw their extermination camps as a prime place for scientific experiments to advance their military and Nazi racial ideology. Prisoners were forced to participate in the experiments and usually died as an effect. If the subject lived, the results often resulted in trauma, disfigurement, or permanent disability. This happened on a large scale, and affected the lives of many. These experiments were typically aimed toward Jews, but some Romani, Sinti, Soviet prisoners of war, and disabled Germans were involved in these ruthless experiments. It is important to remember these diabolical acts not because of how awful they were, but the technological and medical advancements they posed. If we don’t acknowledge the suffering these people endured, then I feel that they have died in vain.

The countries were not justified for their use of chemical weapons in World War I because of its mass destruction of humans and to the environment. Although it did help weaken the enemy, there were many other weapons that could have been used. The addition of chemical weapons only made it easier for more soldiers to be unreasonably killed in large numbers. Even if the soldiers did survive, they would develop cancers and many health problems. Because the wind can carry the remnants of the gases, it could travel back to the the area where it came from or possibly into civilian life. Fritz was born in Breslau, Germany on December 9th, 1868 into a Jewish family. Fritz studied chemistry from 1886 to 1891 at the university of Heidelberg. He was most famous for his research on ammonia. He was able to find out a way of acquiring it without having to extract it naturally. During WWI, Fritz worked with Germany on creating a toxic gas which was capable of killing thousands of people. That's exactly what ended up happening. Throughout WWI chemical warfare was being used to commit lots of murders. Since Fritz was the mastermind behind the chemical warfare, he became known as the “father of chemical warfare”. During the late 80s and early 90s Nike was faced with a series of labor strike back at home due to unethical labor practices by its independent countries in third world countries. It is well known for Nike to outsource almost all its production from third world countries at cheap prices and sell them in U.S. market at an abnormal profit. The company began outsourcing its products from Japan where labor was competent and wages were very low. The living standards were raised which prompted Nike to outsource its products from Thailand, Pakistan and Indonesia since wages in these countries were extremely low and labor for these products were competent due to rapid development of the Japanese economy. The outsourcing of footwear products from Asian countries enables Nike to earn high profits and enjoy a competitive advantage over its rivals in the footwear industry. The company invests the high profits realized in marketing its products through celebrities. For instance, Michael Jordan was used to advertise the positive image of Nike Company (Lipschutz and James, pp. 87-96).

Nike took advantage of that and disregarded that the people making their products at an extremely low price were actually humans. It was ethically wrong for Nike to not see those employees as actual people but saw them as a machine that produced products. They did not care to see how being underpaid affected a person’s family. They also did not see that children were working to support families and continued to work in terrible health conditions because they needed the money no matter the environment. The biggest issue was that the company had a total disregard for human life.
