The Hamilton Harbour, a major land mark in the Hamilton community, has been riddled with harmful bacteria for decades. (Moir, 2013) The most recent focus is on lowering the levels of E. coli found in the harbour to allow for safe swimming conditions for the community. (Moir, 2013) The main source of the E. coli in the harbour is the fecal matter of local waterfowl. (Moir, 2013) To help lower the levels of E. coli in the harbour, with a particular focus on the calmer, shallower areas used for swimming, dissuading the water fowl population is key. (Becker & Nennich, 2006) Some strategies to achieve this are: using buoy lines to designate swimming areas and to stop waterfowl from entering during molting season while they cannot fly, adding in fencing for swimming areas on the beach to stop waterfowl from walking onto the beach and defecating in the sand, increasing trained dog harassment techniques during swimming season, create faux hunting environments using plants to make the waterfowl feel insecure in the area and most importantly, educate the public on this situation and its dangers to dissuade them from feeding and encouraging the waterfowl population to grow and rely on the Hamilton …show more content…
These solutions are simple and effective solutions to the present issues and if combined may have a significant effect on the Harbour’s condition, but as with most proposed solutions there are issues to accompany them. The main issue is the living conditions for the waterfowl; harassment and displacement of the local waterfowl is inhumane, unless a more suitable area is made for them away from in another area of the Harbour.
The goal of this project was to gather baseline information on effective, low-level treatments to reduce Cakile maritima cover in nesting shorebird habitat. Two levels of effort were tested and compared to a control plot where no treatment occurred. A control plot received no treatment, the level 1 plot received monthly treatment and the level 2 plot received bimonthly treatment. Frequency of herbicide application, rather than amount of herbicide, was manipulated in this study. Each plot measured 20 m x 75 m with the length of the plot running perpendicular to the ocean to capture the variability from the fordunes
Moreton Bay and Tangalooma is the third largest local government in Australia by population. It covers more then 2000 square kilometres and serving nearly 400,000 residents. The council has more then $4.4 billion worth of assets under management. On March 11th 2009, a container ship in the Pacific Ocean lost over 31 containers overboard, it had leaked approximately 270 tonnes of oil 11km off east of Moreton Bay. Their wasn’t many wildlife that was effect from this oil leak. The animals that were effected was treated, cleaned and then released. In Moreton Bay and Tangalooma over 200 turtles are being reported dead, sick or injured. The debris and plastics in the ocean doesn’t just effect the marine life but it also effects human health. Turtles can be very weak due to their downward facing spines, which causes them to swallow their food easy but cannot bring it back up, which paralyses the turtles gut from digesting their food. Most of the pollution that enter the waterways of Tangalooma and Moreton Bay are being flushed into the Bay’s, which is actually impacting the water quality and health of Moreton Bay and Tangalooma. By more and more pollution entering the water ways of the bay’s it can increase the cause the turbidity, nutrients and algal blooms, which can cause the loss of seagrass and a loss of food sources for the turtles and other marine
The thrill of hearing the wings whistle above your head, watching their wings cup up waiting for what seems like years for them to get in range to yell that one word. TAKE EM. Pulling up your shotgun and trying to pick out a green head. Seeing the birds fall out of the sky, cheering with your life long hunting buddies, knowing this is going to be a memory that you will never forget. Waterfowl hunting, it’s a past time that has been around for years and years it is what some call a tradition that has been in their families for years and years. These traditions must stay alive, but how, with the depleting numbers of waterfowl and wetlands, its seems as if the sport of waterfowl hunting it going to disappear. There is so much to be done in the conservation world for waterfowl and wetlands. So what is being done to insure in the feature of waterfowl hunting for generations to come?

Scientists have studied the impact of water borne pathogens over time. Just how dependent human life is on the waterways is one such question which arises. The study involves the effect of such pathogens on human life. This study was narrowed down to the area of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. The Chesapeake Bay each weekend is occupied for recreational use. Such activities as swimming, fishing, and body surfing are common place. Normally each year thousands of pounds of seafood are distributed from out of the bay. There is a vast amount of people who come to visit the area each year.
Would it be worth giving everything up just to fight for a cause that you and the people of your race believed in? Many would say yes and do anything in the world to get the rights that they think they deserve. In history, there have been many famous activists who stood up to the US Government and fought for their races rights. One group was the 50 men from Port Chicago that stood up to the US Navy during WW2. The soldiers of Port Chicago protested out of their free will, were penalized for acting upon the issue, and made a difference in the US Navy and all over the country.
Topic:'Terry says to Charley, "I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody instead of a bum. Which is what I am". Does the film support Terry's judgement of himself?
On the night of May 31 1942 in Australia the Japanese invaded Sydney Harbour. It was just another ordinary night for Sydneysiders who never that they would be involved in World War two. The invasion of Sydney Harbour had a significant impact on Australia’s foreign policy as there were American ships in Sydney Harbour. It previously would have been the British ships but they were engaged in the Battle of Madagascar. It was also a direct attack on Australia’s home front from the Japanese. This campaign began after the Japanese brought the war to Australia when they bombed Darwin on the 19th of February 1942. Prior to the attack the Americans brought their ships into Sydney
In this paper I will conduct research on the Bolsa Chica Wetlands that are located in an area of lowlands in Orange County California, adjacent to the city of Huntington Beach. The area is managed by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), whose mission is to” protect and enhance; migratory shorebird, seabird, waterfowl overwintering habitat; protect natural habitat for shorebirds and seabirds; protect nesting and foraging conditions for threatened or endangered species” The Bolsa Chica Conservancy (BCC) is a local volunteer organization that assists in maintaining the area. Its goals are to ensure the preservation, restoration, and enhancement of the area (2010). This
On the waterfront is a 1954 black and white film that based on an original story. Terry Malloy (Marlon Brando) is a dockworker who works at the docks of Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb). I grew up in Hamilton, Mississippi. Hamilton is a very small community with one major highway running through it. It consists of several businesses. Some of these businesses include: Napa parts store, Evans plumbing and A/C, Michelle's Restaurant, Crossroads, Lackie's Restaurant, Ampot Federal Credit Union, Tronox, and the Grass Shop. Tronox is the major chemical plant here in town, and it employs many of the people that live here. Hamilton is also a major farming community that grows cotton, corn, wheat, soybeans, and peanuts. It is a great community with friendly people and many wonderful churches. Hamilton also has a good school that offers great academic structure and athletic
Aside from butterflies, we have the Northern Beach Tiger beetle which is a tiny, sand colored beetle that lives on sandy beaches throughout the middle and lower Chesapeake Bay (Chesapeake Bay Program).
Intro: Hello my name is Bikram my candidate number is 0013 The film I have chosen is On the waterfront directed by Elia Kazan. I will be giving an in depth analyses of the 5minuted extract I have chosen from 00:02:00 – 00:07:00. This film explores the social issues of corruption and racketeering by crime gangs or crime unions (OR WE CAN CALL THEM ORGANISED CRIME GROUPS) which have control over the dock area in New York IT explores how the protagonist Terry Malloy played by Marlon Brando goes from working for these gang units into testifying against them for their crimes.
Assuredly the Panama Canal, If you didn’t know already, was one of the most economic and socialized marvels of its time. It was, at first, attempted by the French in the late 1800s, but they were unable to carry out the canal because of financial problems. Not only that, but yellow fever and malaria flooded the campgrounds with the aid of mosquitoes, which made the workforce unbalanced (Avery). Then in 1904, the Americans were to take over under the leadership and guidance of President Theodore Roosevelt. Even then Americans had a difficult time with construction. Moreover, with the canal built, it’s more sufficient then sailing around the tip of South America. Even today, the canal is used several times a day to bring
ALDI is a typical ‘hard discounted’ store pursuing cost leadership strategy (Bonn, 2010.Pg 1). It is used to reduce the cost of the operation in running the grocery store. Below are some of the examples of implementation of cost leadership strategy used by ALDI stores. ◾ALDI buys low price land mostly on city outskirts, builds cheap warehouse, employs tiny staff and displays items on pallet rather than on shelves (biz.yahoo.com) ◾ALDI’s stores stocks about 700 products (everyday use household items like milk, vegetables, fruits, canned food etc) while a typical supermarket have in the range of 25,000 to 30,000 products (Bonn,2010,Pg 1) ◾Due to fewer products available ALDI stores are usually 1200 square/meters in size while the biggest Coles
