In Gwendeloyn Brooks poem “The Mother” she uses a great deal of diction, tone, imagery as elements to create a whole. She uses descriptive words to create a feeling for the audience and also gives enough of a back story so that the reader can understand. Based on the poem you can sense a feeling of regret, remorse and it is as though she is trying to talk to the children she aborted.
