This political cartoon was inspired by the controversial topic on gun control and how we need stricter laws on it. In the cartoon there is a man, whom, looks southern. It's ironic because they have a sign that says "We don't sell dangerous items" with a nail clipper and a pocket knife, yet in they are selling guns. There is some exaggeration because there is a little sign that says "We ID You have to be 18 to kill". There could be potential bias as this is a pro gun control cartoon. This can be helpful evidence to support my argument as well the opposing one since there is many key features being
I think that this political cartoon is biased because Jim probably created it because he seems to disagree with the government. He thinks the government should be under the authority of the NRA. The firearms should be in control rather than the NRA. In this cartoon, it describes the NRA holding a gun to the government's head, as the government is speaking out loud about how terrible to Aurora
In the twenty first century, we should maintain and uphold political cartoons, and keep them present because they capture such a huge audience. Today, there are many cartoons and drawings about our government. A prime example would be the cartoons directed towards president Trump and his immature ways of handling threats from North Korea. Many Cartoons were displayed on the front pages of the internet. New Sites such as Mercury News, and Social media sites such as pinterest, all feature these comics and political cartoons on the topic. One cartoon shows Trump and Kim Jong-Un in an angry fight similar to how kids would to communicate the idea of immaturity. The Websites Claims: Cartoonists illustrate Rhetoric between Trump and North Korea, after being threatened by nuclear weapons. (Dempsey). Politics has a
The political cartoon by Michael Ramirez shows three men with a lot of papers scattered across all over the floor. One of the men is on the floor with a hand over his heart and his tongue sticking out. It also seems that one of the men is also representing President Obama who is also saying “Good news! Heart attacks are covered under Obamacare”. He does this when he is just looking over the man that is having the heart attack. The other man says that “He saw his new insurance premiums.” It seems that the assumption is that the man that is on the floor is having a heart attack caused from seeing the recent increases in the prices for Obama care. By having Obama seem to be not affected by the man who had a heart attack shows him as someone that
This political cartoon is a humorous perspective on the media's over-analyzing handshakes between Trump and Putin that make viewers feel fed up with. I can see the message of this painting based on the image of a man sitting in front of a television screen, his hand putting on his face showing the disappointment as the TV channel continues analyzing Trump and Putin's handshake. This reminds me of my childhood, every time I watched the Disney Channel, I always get bored whenever this channel replayed cartoon movie "Upin and Ipin". And even now growing up, what annoys me most when watching TV is the constant ad.
A child who shouldn't have to guide lawmakers through protest and broadcast. The cartoons purpose is to frown upon Trump's lack of maturity in the wake of the florida shooting. And it did exactly that, it made me question Trump's ability to actively participate in a crisis. My opinion is not to ban assault rifles all together but to raise the purchase age to twenty-five to thirty. The reason is that the brain does not fully develop until this age. It gives those who are unstable time to mature and understand their anger better. Stricter gun-laws are also important; the sad fact is that those who are determined to buy and gun will find other means of doing so, but the strict laws will decrease that pool of people. As this debate continues, lawmakers are pressured to support the people rather than deny them change. I predict that gun-laws will become more strained but there will be other shootings that will continue to push for even greater
Within today’s society numerous artists create enjoyable and humorous cartons about current politicians. These political cartoons use a wide range of humour and satirical devices to tease or mock the intended target. By using these methods the cartoonist can influence the audience to view the target in a particular way. This specific satirical cartoon involves Malcolm Turnbull accompanied by his wife Lucy Turnbull and a scorpion which in this cartoon represents the GST increase plan. Sean Leahy, who is the author of the cartoon has utilised a broad range of satirical devices such as symbolism, caricature and captioning to show Malcolm Turnbull’s thoughts about a rise in the GST.
In mid two thousand and eight, a New York magazine had circulated a controversial political cartoon targeting the White House’s current residents, the President, and first lady. Within weeks many other news companies like CBS, NBC, and even Huffington post had some sort of written article on this controversy. This though had been one of many controversial cartoons they had circulated throughout their years of business. When they had circulated this one though they didn’t expect that big of a backlash. For them to keep their cartoon on the front page they had a lot of explaining. This led to interviews and more publicity for their cartoon in question.
Gun control, you're either for or against it. No matter what anybody says we do have a problem. In 2015 13,286 people were killed by a firearm, but you can't take guns away from everybody, there is always a way to get a gun. In 2012 in Los Angeles, California the police taken in 122 illegal weapons for every 100,000 residents, New York was 39, and Chicago was 277, but that isn't including the ones that they haven't found yet. I think that we need to focus more getting the illegal weapons off the street and keep them out of the hands of felons, mentally ill, children under the age of 18 and maybe have a more extensive thorough background check and have some form of training to be able to purchase a gun. But in all reality I think to stop the
In addition, in this political cartoon the ideology is shaming and critiquing liberalism because it reveals the dangers of giving an individual full power and freedom and especially with bearing arms. However, because in the United States the right of the individuals to keep and bear arms is constituted in their second amendment which grants them this entitlement. Regardless, of this right to own a gun principle, individuals should not be allowed to have complete freedom because guns cause crime and death and thus, individual freedom should be very restricted and limited regarding who the topic of who is allowed to bear arms. For example, this topic of school shooting is very sensitive but however, regardless of how many times this tragedy does happen, governments do not take enough action to resolve this issue and put an end on it. Instead, there has been various school shooting and especially in 2018 there has been more than 17 school shootings alone compared to 290 since
As November rolls along and the presidential elections begin, political cartoons on the candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, come into play. While there are numerous issues currently being advertised about in the media, there is only one issue that I feel is most spoken about, that should not be. That issue is immigration. While Hillary Clinton feels that immigrants should be able to stay in the U.S., Donald Trump is a massive supporter of sending back any immigrants, especially Mexicans, to their birthplaces. I believe that Donald Trump is a huge racist and does not care about other people that are not of his race. Political Cartoons by cartoonist John Darkow and John Cole illustrate how irrational and racist Donald Trump’ views on
Today, there is a huge debate over the extent of America’s gun control. Unfortunately, in the past three years school shootings have greatly increased to become a common occurrence. The drastic escalation of mass shootings have created strong arguments for further restrictive laws against assault weapons. Media is an outlet to express persuasive arguments on certain issues and convince the viewers. Advertisements vary from videos for clothing companies to posters on controversial issues, however, the basis of ads do not take away influence and meaning. Therefore, and argument to buy a product can be as common and as present as gun law commercials. With the recent past in mind, countless ads for gun control have surfaced, and whole there are
No people desire their personal rights to be infringed upon, but when their rights begin to infringe upon the rights and lives of others, a serious problem is at hand. In all ways possible, the rights of the people should be protected and preserved. At some point, though, a line has to be drawn so as not to allow lives to be jeopardized. Merlette recognizes the need for another perspective to be address in regards to gun control. This cartoon did a good job of expressing a different perspective in a strong, clear, and defendable way.
In the satirical cartoon, a man is depicted speaking about a mathematical problem of 1+1=2, while the man whom he is conversing with behind the podium is yelling that 1+1=5. In the background an officer is seen holding the man looking as if he will punish him. In the cartoon the cartoonist was trying to convey the authority of government. The man is being depicted as the citizen and the man behind the podium is presented as the government or authority. The citizen argues that 1+1=2 but the authority deems him wrong which causes him to be punished by the officer. The government I thought the cartoonist was trying to display is an authoritarian, such as North Korea. For the lecture this week the focus was on power and authority in governments.
My cousin is an amazing, intelligent child who has epilepsy. When being tested at the hospital for her disorder, they concluded that she was having over 60 seizures per day. The Doctors attempted many tests and interventions without success. They had to go to another state to test if medical cannabis was going to be an option for her and it worked; however, governmental laws prohibit medical cannabis in most states. Governmental controversy over the use of medical marijuana and other legal and medical issues have been a source of contention in the news, and in the legislative arena for a long time. Medical marijuana and the use of legal and illegal drugs has been a hot topic of discussion in many legislative and medical settings for years. In the four cartoons selected you will see the contrast and correlation of the cartoonist’s presentations concerning government control of
I agree with this political cartoon’s message because gun control isn’t going to stop criminals from having a gun. They will find a way to get it one way or another. So the people should be able to have a gun to at least protect them from
