Group Presentation
Working within my group was very easy as we organized our thoughts, structured our subject material and then assigned each other a section to talk about in class. My group was well versed on the topic, Homelessness, and it became very easy for each member to establish their position within the assignment.
My ability to work with a group is based on the participation of each member- this determines whether or not the group will thrive together or struggle to be cohesive. However, based on the group I choose, the teamwork became very smooth and I was able to focus on my task. Each member had the freedom to choose their area they wanted to cover within the topic, which made the group more powerful to work with. On the other
Presentation evaluation 1. What is the group topic and their goal with their presentation? 2. What was the most important thing that you learned about the presentation? 3.
When the project was first introduced and we were out in a group together, we immediately discussed topics that we could present on. At the time, we did not choose a topic, but the following day we were able to find a topic that we all enjoyed researching and presenting on. Once we had a topic to present on, we split up the work evenly between us and started a google docs so we could post our notes and completed work online. This process was very dependent on every member of the group contributing to the end goal of presenting our finished project. For the most part we completed our respective tasks and was able to complete our presentation on why health care should be free. Our group did not communicate very much, this highlighted the interdependence
While in nursing school my group was selected to do a presentation about the African American culture. I wanted to be the leader of the presentation. When we all got together I had everyone discuss what information needed to be gathered, what resources we would use, and how we would present it. I assigned my group members roles on what parts they had to do and encouraged them to help one another out if someone was unable to find any information about their section. Over the weeks I would make sure and send out emails that consisted of additional ideas the group had, information that could be useful for the presentation, and followed up with everyone. Before we were going to present I set up group meetings so that we could organize the presentation
My focus this week was my group power point presentation. This was the assignment me nervous because my presentation was going to be a reflection on my team members as well, so I felt more pressure to put an informative and clear power point presentation. This assignment made me realized that team work is essential. We depended on each other to present an informative presentation, and we are not able to do it if we don’t communicate among ourselves. I found this group presentation to be challenging because we all have different schedules, responsibilities and time zones, but I have learned that even if everyone has different responsibilities, it is important to communicate with each other.
A small group is defined as three to fifteen people, but five to seven members will maximize the groups efficiency (Valenzano, 2017). Groups are a part of every one’s day to day life and are found everywhere. Even from birth, one may have been involved in a group. Groups are found in schools, careers, friendships, everything. Every group varies, and so one would have to learn how to work with different types of people. Having a group to work on a project with can be a helpful thing or a dreading thing. During the process of creating our group presentation, there were a variety of communication concepts that “came to life,” our group had a certain way we could work together, and we figured out how to present the presentation effectively.
Evaluation The aim was to work in-group of three to plan, prepare and present a range of actives suitable for young children. As a group we planned the actives so that a child with sp develop on their problem solving skills. In our activates we used cards and fabric. We created different games that would encourage a young child to solve basic problems. My activity was the basketball where to help the child in wheel chair move around and joy itself.
Group projects were not the same when I began studying at the University of Michigan. In my communications 101 class, I was paired with two other students to work on a media project. The day we were assigned groups, we were given five minutes at the end of class to plan our first meeting to pick out our topic. This quick meeting consisted of both team members informing
Amanda: Before attending the group meeting, make sure your physical appearance is appropriate. Friend: Why does that matter?
Within this team we all knew what the goal of the team was being presenting a project given by a professor. One way I might struggle with a group is being that depending on the topic of situation, I try to think beyond what is necessary for a project. I like what different people can bring to a group, but it does drive me crazy when people want to do just the basics of what a professor wants because it doesn’t make you stand out, be remember and usually comes off as boring. In the group where everyone’s role was clear of the best, worst, and average of the group, I found that the best and usually one average person make up for what the worst person lacks or doesn’t do. I try to do this because I personally like my work to be remembered and I care about my grade.
One aspect of teaching that I had not considered until I began completing my interviews, is the sense of comradery amongst teachers and other school staff, at all grade levels. Yes, some of the schools require the grade levels to work together to complete certain tasks, but the teachers I interviewed all loved this aspect of their job. Part of me wonders if it the much needed break and adult interaction, but all of the teachers mentioned how important these group sessions are. The teachers work together to prepare lesson plans, plan entire grade activities, and also depend on each other for guidance with difficult situations. The Special Needs teacher in particular said she depends heavily on these group discussions, as it can be difficult
Effective group communications come in forms of verbal and non-verbal techniques. Essential parts of the entire group’s contribution are that the group contains full participating members, the group is diverse, and that the diversity is recognized and respected (Hartley, 1997). In the videos viewed, three were evaluated on the effective and ineffective communication skills of the participants and suggestions made on how they could improve. The videos are titled, “Planning a Playground”, “Helping Annie”, and "The Politics of Sociology.
I used to believe that I did not perform very well in groups. I am an observer who likes to learn alone. I thought I learned best when I worked on my own. Even though I always knew group work had many positive values, I was more comfortable with the lecture-based approach and resisted group work merely because it involved change, not because it had a collaborative learning approach. However, during the learning community project, I came to realize that I learn more effectively when I work in groups. Working in a group was like an adventure for me; there were both exciting and challenging times while preparing for the learning community project.
Being involved in a group project was a challenge for me, due to the fact that we had some communication problems between our group members in the beginning. First of all, we started with a brainstorming, analysing the opportunities of companies around Hendon Central. More than this, we agreed on the same firm and started our work. Within a teamwork, there are some challenges that occur such as remaining focused on a direction, splitting equally the work and choosing a good leader. Bearing all this in mind, I might say that we did our best during the presentation and we coped with the minor communication issues. From this experience, I realized that I am a good leader and I can manage efficiently a project.
