The human species evolved in a certain environment. Long ago, that environment included walking barefoot on the earth and sleeping on the ground or in the trees. More recently, we have moved to homes with carpeting and wearing modern shoes, many of which have soles that literally leave us disconnected from the earth's energy.
If this sounds like mumbo jumbo, let's add some science: The human body has an electrical field. Being in contact with the earth helps literally ground us. It puts negatively charged electrons into our system that help counteract bad things, like free radicals.
When you think of it that way, it should not be surprising that grounding behaviors, such as walking barefoot on certain kinds of surfaces or camping out, can

Reducing inflammation can help improve symptoms of conditions known to have an inflammatory component.
Sleep Better
Studies show that grounding helps improve the quality of sleep. Early indicators suggest this is related to lowering levels of cortisol in the system. However, the understanding of the grounding process is in its infancy. The reasons are likely myriad and more complicated than that.
Stop Being Shocked
Getting your body more grounded can help reduce how often and how severely you get shocked from static electricity. All those times you get shocked from touching a metal doorknob or your car on a dry day can become a thing of the past.
Improved Mood
Somatopsychic effects are a known thing. If you don't know that word, it just means that physical conditions can have emotional or mental health side effects. This seemingly new scientific discovery actually has ancient roots and is frequently expressed as "A sound mind in a sound body."
Heal Faster
Racers in the Tour De France already take advantage of this fact by using special bags to ground themselves. They look a bit like a sleeping bag, but they have a different purpose. You can get some of the same benefits without any fancy equipment by walking barefoot outside on the right surfaces, sitting on the ground and otherwise literally increasing your connection to the

Red blood cells are high in iron. You can kind of think of them as being like little magnets. When you ground the body, they all wind up with the same charge, thus repelling each other. This is antithetical to clumping. But, please speak with your doctor first if you already have a known heart or circulatory condition. Given how deadly heart problems can be, if grounding had no other benefits, this one alone would make it well worth it.
Reduce PMS
After the above points, this result should be pretty obvious. Given that menstruation involves blood flow and PMS involves inflammation, it should come as no surprise that grounding the body helps reduce the problems associated with premenstrual syndrome.
Recover Faster from Workouts
Are you tired of having sore muscles after working out? Being regularly grounded can help you recover more rapidly from Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) and see muscle function improve as a result. This can help you reduce the amount of time you spend with an ice pack, trying to soothe your sore muscles so you can get back in the game.

Veronique Greenwood’s article, “Why Do We Need to Sleep?” was written in early January for The Atlantic. The studies for the article were located in Tsukuba, Japan. In Tsukuba, there is a new institution, the International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine. The institution was built for researchers to be able to do more in depth studies of sleep. The benefits of sleep are still mysterious, however, there is still hope in uncovering these sleepy mysteries. The man behind the institution is the director, Masashi Yanagisawa; who created it to learn more about the basic biology of sleep, rather than the causes and treatment of sleep problems. If there is someone or thing that is awake for a long period of time they will eventually have a
There has been much controversy over the biological factors involved in the mood disorders and discomfort felt by countless women before the onset of menses. The common term for this discomfort is pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS). PMS is a disorder involving hormonal changes that trigger disruptive symptoms up to two weeks prior to menstruation. While for many women the symptoms are not severe enough to require treatment, 12 % (5 out of 40 million) are medically treated for

Dry needling, although it has been around for over forty years, it has only recently had valuable research performed to validate the use and effects of it in the medical field. It is still in its infancy as a research topic, but the effects that have been seen are very appealing to the field. Many professionals have recently taken an interest in dry needling and have recognized the positive patient outcomes that can come from it.

The cause of static electricity is when there is an unbalanced molecular construction or non conductive insulators such as plastic, glass, ceramics, and other non conductive materials
The immune systems helps the body fight off the other parts of our bodies and harmful substances such as disease, infection or bacteria. Some strategies for ensuring a healthy immune system are: don’t smoke, move your body which mean exercise regularly, eat diet food such as fruit and vegetable, get a good night sleep and maintain your healthy weight. These strategies are a good way to start giving your immune system the upper hand.
The earth is a very fragile place, it´s the home to many creatures and inhabits many lives. In the
Because of the previous research on the biological effects of grounding, there is a theoretical argument to suggest that it could positively affect mood,
Sleep is one of the unavoidable daily-living activities and it is one of the most important factors contributing to a person’s health. A quality sleep is essential for the physical, cognitive and psychological well-being of a person. Learning, memory processing and maintenance of the brain are among the most important functions of sleep. In addition to maintaining the brain, sleep has important roles in controlling the
“Inflammation is a localized tissue response to injury. Inflammation produces local redness (rubor), swelling (tumor), heat (color), and pain (dolor). These are known as cardinal signs and symptoms of the inflammation. Sometimes a fifth is included: lost function (function laesa) (Martini, 2015, p. 801). The normal physiology of inflammation is its “response to a defense mechanism that evolved in higher organisms to protect them from infection and injury. Its purpose is to localize and eliminate the injurious agent and to remove damaged tissue components so that the body can begin to heal” (“Inflammation”, 2017, para.1). Inflammation is indicative of injury and maybe even possible disease. The anatomy of inflammation is a “change in blood
Inflammation is “a condition in which a part of your body becomes red, swollen, and painful.” The two most common causes of inflammation are injury and illness, which the body responds to by producing C-reactive protein (CRP). By using Cue’s Sample Wand to collect a drop of blood, individuals can measure what many experts believe is the best overall marker of inflammation.
Everyone has a bad habit in their life. Whether it’s eating that late night snack or putting things off until the last minute, many don’t realize that the things we do or the habits we have contribute a role in the stress we have in our lives. One of these habits involves sleep. Sleep is vital to a successful life and also to the decrease in the amount of stress a person experiences. At Pennsylvania State University, researchers compared insomnia patients to patients without any sleep disruptions. They found that patients with insomnia that displayed the most severe sleep disturbances secreted the highest amount of cortisol. So, getting a good night’s sleep on a regular basis not only helps a person to function at full potential, but it’s also a great way to manage one’s stress and keep it at bay. Another situation that people find themselves in is when they hang out with negative people. If one hangs around negative people, they themselves tend to pick up on the “negative vibe”. When in a stressful situation, it’s always important to
In order to understand how music can affect the body and mind, one needs to understand the composition of sound itself. Don Campbell describes it by
Nearly everything that a human does is in response to the environment. Our lives are defined by what is around us and what we find in front of us, whether this means accepting, dealing with or changing it. This has been the pattern since primates first stood up and became Homo erectus, and has continued until we considered ourselves doubly wise. The shape of the land affected where humans moved. Weather was something with which to contend. Fire affected humans until they conquered it – and herein lies the core of the relationship. The earth affects humans, and humans affect it back, viewing characteristics and patterns as problems and challenges, and finding a solution.
