After hearing Ariel’s experience with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome I was curious to hear how much did Grey’s Anatomy truly simplify her condition? After reading a book about this disease it gave me more insight to what these individuals go through on a daily basis. The young woman easily popping her joint back into place is not how they actually live, once that happens they are excruciating pain, without the ability to just place it back. Several who become ill with EDS have pulmonary issues, suddenly causing death? Patients with this dominant disorder have shortened life due to complications from ruptured vessels or hollow organs (Acton 7). Grey’s Anatomy brought EDS awareness, but slightly touched on the actual affects of having it.
After having showing the EDS case, I was curious if they had done an episode on a condition I had when I was younger, Kawasaki’s. Both cases were glamourized, and

I am truly thankful for nurses, and doctors who care about their patients, and their job. You have to have a certain heart to be in the medical field, and Grey’s Anatomy makes it seem as if everyone can be in health care. Many people get into healthcare just for the money, and it makes the whole situation complicated. If the doctor is just there for the money, not enjoying his or her job, then they are unhappy. If they are unhappy that reflects as to how they treat the nurses, and assistances. If their boss is coming down on them, then it makes their own job less enjoyable reflecting that to the patients. It is a chain of reaction. They do not show the true dedication, hard work, or motivation. Most of the events that happen in the work place of the Seattle Grace hospital are not realistic, and would actually never happen. And, I know that it is television, but they have made the medical field become as if it is some easy, fun ride into a
My mom has worked in hospitals since before I was born. From being a nurse to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, she spent a lot of time in hospitals, which meant her family did too. After spending many nights and even holidays at them, hospitals became like a second home to me; and the staff, a family. I learned to love everything about hospitals: the smell, cleanliness, layout, and even the chaos. I saw how controlled yet sincere everything was. I saw and learned things wandering around hospitals that many others will never understand.
Having to deal with difficult situations and people is a daily task in the nursing profession. As Crystal said, never let them know that you are affected (Noah). Hospitalization is not normally a shining moment in someone’s life, it is normally a low point. Because of this, having compassion for the people that you are serving on a daily basis is a key factor in being successful as a nurse, as well as being rewarded from the people that you are treating.
Most of the treatment towards patients were ethical, like Cheryl was treated very well and she felt like she didn’t deserve such treatment. Having to tie down some of the patients that weren’t a threat was kind of overkill, some would have walked or sat nicely on the bed when they were taken into Bellevue. Tying the patients to the bed is what made them very mad and pushed them over the edge. Some of the patients that could leave Bellevue should have slowly gone into the outside world instead of just letting them go on their own, without any help. Bruce should have taken the medication instead of going to court to have Bellevue not give him medication. Without the medication he wouldn’t get any better. The hospital could have met him in the middle and given him a smaller dose of the medication that would still help him without the side effects that would make him depressed or have difficulties with speech and movement. Without the medication Bruce couldn’t be helped in anyway. The employees at Bellevue take their job very seriously and they do everything in their power to calm down patients when they have a break down or dangerous outburst. The employees manage to laugh at some things, like having their finger be bitten off by a man. They are very professional do, they try to be as honest as they can to the patients, even if they are only partial truths. One of the patients asked an employee if god was punishing her for something and that was why she was the way
Intrinsically, I am a person authorized for the financial department, will definitely allocate the budget of $1 million U.S. dollars to various form of investments. One of investments that I will definitely choose is an investment with higher revenue generated in the current year. Based on the stock analysis, the highest revenue generated is conquered by JPMorgan Chase, followed by Wells Fargo & Co. and Citi Group Inc. However, higher revenue does not guarantee a profitable investment. There are other factors that we need to consider when we focus on increasing a firm’s value such as price per earning, the total return as well as the type of the firm’s industry. Based on my experience with FIN102 class, I will most likely to choose a banking
When I became a nurse I knew I wanted to work in medicine dealing with patients suffering with chronic illness; I suffer from my own chronic illness known as Beta Sickle Thalassemia. Throughout the years my interaction with the Nurse practitioner in my Hematology/ Oncology has been enlightening. It has allowed me to see how I can be the driving force and a change agent for patients that suffer from chronic illness just like my own. For as long as I can remember I have always had a natural compassion for anyone in pain or discomfort whether physically or mentally. This empathy and compassion has trickled into the care I provide for my own patients and allows me to provide the best patient centered care I possibly can.
Grey’s Anatomy has a realistic feel. The series indicates actual circumstances. For instance the main setting takes place in a hospital were surgeons spend the majority of their time. Throughout all thirteen seasons you are watching doctors treat and diagnose patients. Doctors are going through the steps of running tests, coming up with treatments plans and performing all kinds of surgeries from an Appendectomy to a heart transplant. The television series shows when running tests or the doctors common knowledge with medicine doesn’t seem to work or treat the patient properly they research the symptom’s, the causes, and why something would work for one patient and not another then they find the best way to treat each patient just as you would see or experience if you were an actual patient being seen in your town hospital. The viewer can get a sense of what it takes to become a surgeon. Starting fresh out of medical
When people think about nurses, many ideas come to mind. They think of the hideous old starched, white uniforms, a doctor’s handmaiden, the sexy or naughty nurse, or a torturer. The media and society have manipulated the identity and role of nurses. None of these ideas truly portray nurses and what they do. Nurses are with the patients more than the doctors. People do not realize how little they will encounter the doctor in the hospital until they are actually in the hospital. People quickly realize how important nurses are. Because nurses interact with their patients constantly, nurses are the ones who know the patients best.
My passion for working in health care stems from my desire for trying to create a positive impact and difference in someone’s life. Who does this more in the health field than nurses? I have had the opportunity to work as an EMT, a Personal Care Assistant, and as a Nurse Assistant. In these roles, I would always witness nurses leading and being the first to create a relationship with a patient. Creating a relationship with a patient is what I enjoy immensely about working in medicine. When I would work as an EMT I would always try to create some kind of rapport with the patient to help them feel more at ease and to show them their concerns matter to me, even if it might not be a life-threatening emergency, it can easily feel that way to the
I had my moments of success and happiness when I was able to help someone along and see how appreciative they were. There were also times that were saddening and uncomfortable. When visiting rooms, I did encounter people who were losing grip on their mental and physical abilities. I felt a heaviness because even though they were taken care of, there wasn’t that could be done to make them better. It was inspiring seeing nurses and family members continuing to care for them and keep dignity.
There are not many activities out there that relax and soothe me quite like shooting my bow. It is not as simple as it sounds though, just pulling on the string, releasing the string, and watching the arrow fly towards your target. There are a number of aspects that must be taken into consideration when trying to shoot a bow and arrow efficiently, this is where we will get into the physics of archery.
There is always new life lesions integrated into each storyline. There is also a perspective of life and personality placed with each character. Behind each and every scene there is a greater purpose that the producer embedded into it. This subconsciously has the watcher learn a lesson while watching the series and having them more attached to the show. This is all within the production Grey’s Anatomy. Incorporating that there is a way for one to be successful in whatever they dream whether they are male or female, young or old, rich or poor. The message that any person no matter who they are can do what they put their mind too even if it is a high status career. Explaining the work that it takes to get there and obstacles they will have to overcome. With this accomplishment of a great career due to their hard work it is also possible for them to have great relationships and family life outside of work. Grey’s just as any other well created series can help sculpt the minds of this generation. Television is an adequate way enforce much needed societal messages to the population, trying to help change the wrong doings present in this
The ABC television drama “Grey's Anatomy” written by Shonda Rhimes and produced by Ann Kindberg, is a popular medical drama about a group of surgeons who work at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle, Washington. The show focuses mostly around the main character, Meredith Grey, who is at first is a surgical resident and soon becomes a general surgeon, her background story, relationships with others, and her life as a surgeon. The storyline, big-time surgeries/medical cases, intense scenes, and romantic chemistry between the characters make “Grey’s Anatomy” a successful medical show.
Several of the roles which I observed this morning were expected: the nurses took vitals for incoming patients, performed focused assessments, and were the main communicators between family, the patient, and the physician. I realized when the first patient came in around 10:00 am, the RN’s role in assessments, gathering blood work, and carrying out all the necessary steps to situate and stabilize the patient as soon as possible. It was incredible seeing the nurses work together, in sync, in those first moments when the patient was brought in. And though expected, I appreciated seeing just how much communication was held and information was gathered from the patient or family members by the nurse. Jessica asked the right questions from both parties, while still showing incredible empathy and not making the whole situation seem rushed and flustering. I understood this as another essential role of the nurse in the ED; he or she must maintain even in such a fast-paced environment empathy and focus in each interaction.
During my time there, I shadowed a pediatric doctor. While I was asking him questions, he was called into an emergency surgery, and I was unfortunately not old enough to watch according to the hospital restrictions. So as I was waiting around, a PA swooped me up and let me shadow her instead. I was embarrassed to admit to her that I was not aware of a PA’s responsibilities to the hospital. Throughout the rest of the day, I followed the PA into patient rooms and recovery rooms. I was able to observe how the PA interacted with patients with such a reassuring and caring attitude that I had not seen with the previous physician I had met. I not only respected her compassionate personality, but I related to it.
All my life I have been in and out of hospitals. Every since I was born I had some problems that I had to face. Thanks to all the doctors that were there for me, that helped me become the girl that stands today, I get to live my life in peace. I had told myself from that day forward that I was gonna become a doctor or a nurse and help as many people as I can. I have always loved to help people in need. I hope that one day that I can save someone's life as someone saved mine.If I had to pick one role model that I looked up to ,I couldn’t. That is because I admire and idolize every single nurse and doctor there is in this world that help keep people alive and safe every single day.
