Gregor Samsa’s incredible and utterly outlandish circumstance of transforming into a giant bug is told in a straightforward and completely ordinary fashion. Almost as though this strange circumstance is a common occurrence that was almost expected and therefore, unsurprising. The metamorphosis that stood out to me the most, however, was the change in Gregor’s family. More specifically his sister Grete’s drastic change. Grete goes from being a young and caring girl who relied solely on her brother. To a young women who, not only took care of herself, but began to lead decision making for her family. By the end of the book the little girl “ ...had blossomed into a good-looking, shapely girl…”.
As I read the book I could see how Gregor’s transformation

Grete is initially still attached to Gregor, though repulsed at the sight of his body. She steps forward as his primary caretaker and his main contact with the outside world for the the majority of the book. However I noticed that as the book progressed she began to see it more and more as a duty and a burden. Where initially Grete did her best to accommodate Gregor’s interests such as bringing him “a bowl filled with fresh milk” and to “...push the chair...” that Gregor liked to lean on “back to the same place by the window each time she had finished cleaning the room”. It later became something that she could not have done “...more hastily…”. This decrease in Gregor’s care seemed to mirror Grete’s own growing independence and maturity. Not only did she get her own job, she also began to take charge in her family as well. I could see this the most in regards to the care of Gregor. She ensured “...that the cleaning of Gregor’s room remain her province” and even became angry at her mother when she cleaned the room herself. Grete fully comes into her role as an adult at the very end of the book when Gregor died and she “stretched her young body”. I felt as though this was her finally metamorphosis and she has broken free of the burden that was her

In fact, throughout the novella, Gregor instead focuses his efforts on forgetting his unfortunate physical state altogether. 6. MOTIF The title, The Metamorphosis, contains in itself one of the few motifs in the novel, transformation. Gregor Samsa, the protagonist, awakens one day in the body of an insect, completely mutated. The conversion continues as Gregor adapts to his new body and his new physique. Not only does Gregor go through a transformation, but also does those around him. With no one to provide for them anymore, Mr. Samsa got a job, which is on the other side of his sitting, relaxing, and sleeping all day
Gregor Samsa was the principal character of “The Metamorphosis”, a novella written by Franz Kafka. This character had 3 main characteristics: he was a traveling salesman that hated his job; he transformed into a huge bug; and he died after being rejected by his family, his sister Grete and his parents. Throughout The Metamorphosis, Gregor Samsa has the conception that he has been transformed into a bug. Although physical descriptions in the text propose Gregor is a bug, these descriptions actually serve to denote his mental state. Imposed responsibilities, prison-like treatment, and animalistic changes perceptible only to Gregor factor together to drive Gregor to insanity. When Mr. Samsa lost his business, Gregor immediately stepped up to the plate in order for his family to, “…forget…the business

A bug is treated as an insignificant creature that is constantly shooed away. Gregor Samsa, in the “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka, is a traveling salesman who changes into a bug and is unappreciated by his family. His life takes place mostly in his room and with him as a bug, each member of the family has taken on a job in order to live, when before, Gregor was able to provide for his whole family. He is selfless and if he ever wanted to do anything for himself, seeing his family happy is enough
The Metamorphosis of Gregor Samsa It is quite intriguing to learn the concept of transmutation of an animal, but it is well unheard of an actual person to have been mutated. Once finishing reading the short story “Metamorphosis" written by Franz Kafka the reader is able to conclude that the title pertains not only to Gregor’s mutation, but also to the whole story. Metamorphosis is a transformation of a human being or insect into ultimately an unrelated creature. It seems to resemble that process
The beginning of “The Metamorphosis”, starts with the character Gregor Samsa, waking up one morning transformed into an insect without any explanation. He was unsure of what was happening to him or why. Gregor’s days were routinely the same, getting up and going to work every day, no matter what. Gregor’s father had owned a business that failed and left the family in debt, which Gregor inherited the responsibility of paying back his family’s debts. Therefore, Gregor’s first reaction was about
Statement of Intent While acknowledging that most narratives written in the third person can be adequately revealing, and that a third perspective is sometimes necessary or even essential to the success of a particular narrative; taking into account the context, themes, and symbols of this work, I strongly believe that a personal diary would be imperative if one was seeking to decode some of the underlying emotions, thoughts, and experiences that can be overshadowed by a lack of a first person
