Visiting a different island in the Caribbean each summer has always been a family tradition of mine. The first few years never failed to make me fall in love with each and every one of them, but once my family suggested on visiting Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the eighth year, my thoughts were not so hyped. Going to the same sea each year can get old and boring. When we finally got to Punta Cana, falling in love was too short of a term to describe what I felt for it. As soon as we landed we were greeted with songs and happiness all around. The nobleness lingering in the atmosphere, coconut smell in the air, and architecture went beyond my imagination.
In the essay “How the Schools Shortchange Boys”, author Gerry Garibaldi addresses the concern of boys’ behaviors in school. Garibaldi first starts out by stating the feminist complaints that girls were “losing their voice” in a male-oriented classroom have precipitated the school’s establishment to be more in their favor. This has led to boys becoming increasingly disconnected inside the classrooms. Garibaldi claims that “only 65 percent earned high school diplomas in the class of 2003, compared with 72 percent of girls.” He continues by mentioning about how girls are outnumbering boys on most university campuses in the country.

Have you ever detested one of your school years? Did you get into a lot of trouble over frivolous, immature actions? Did you have one of your beloved family members kick the bucket? Or forced your frail teacher to astonishingly collapse and be swiftly wheelchaired to the drafty, hushed atmosphere of the office to the point of them retiring?
Within seconds I had a decision to make. My heart was pounding, my conscious started to kick in, should I act or should I blend in? Everyone was laughing, it just didn’t feel right. It was like any other day at Tippin Elementary School, roaming the halls I stopped by this boy named Tommy. From a glance, he seemed timid, shy, and a bit nerdy but he was the kindest person you’d ever meet. On the opposite side of hallway walked the jocks or so-called “cool kids.” No one dared to speak up against them, it was as they were wanting everyone to fear them. All of a sudden the toughest of the group slowly walked up to where we were sitting, opened up his water bottle, and poured it all over Tommy. He slurred racist and inappropriate comments, kids all around me began to burst out into laughter.
World War I was the most violent, deadly, and costly war of its time. World War I was a result of multiple causation; militarism, alliances, nationalism, imperialism, and the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand. All the causes of World War I come to light as the European powers began to industrialize. As industrialization began, these nations would go to other countries to get the resources they needed. This allowed imperialism to occur. Imperialism is when a strong nation tries to dominate a weaker nation, economically, socially, or politically. These weaker nations couldn’t fight back because they were not industrialized. However, the race for resources led to a competition between the European powers. France and Germany competed
I’ve been at Barrington Middle School for three years. It is the place where I transitioned from a child bright-eyed and ready for the world, to the older, if not wiser young adult, that I am today. I’ve been here through the good times and the bad as I went from year to year. I am leaving this institution of knowledge more prepared because of AVID. I am leaving ready for my life ahead.
I remember the first day of Kindergarden very clearly; I walked into a facility covered with white walls, white tiling, and white children, but I looked a little different from the other children. I was the only Chinese American male in a predominantly white schooling created me to become an easy target for other children. Persecution, stereotypes, and identity was placed on me each day, and I resorted to my parents for comfort. I would cry into my mother’s arm and ask her “how do I make my eyes bigger?” or “Can you just buy me some blue eyes?”. My mother would cry along with me, but it wasn’t until after multiple attempts of begging that I understood the burden and pain I was putting on her heart, and I stopped asking. Each day when I was asked how my day went, I would lie and tell her how “amazing” it was, but I was truly hurting inside. This started my

It was March when I received the letter from Gwinnett County School , saying that I will be attending Berkmar Middle School for my 8th grade year. I smiled, but then the thought of my friends made my face to a frown. I guess things happen for a reason. Later, that day I showed my mom the letter and she asked “ What's that ?”
The foul mixture of smog, anxiety and crisp night air pressed down on Maria as she trudged down the hill, trailing a few feet behind her twin sister at all times. Strange Taiwanese animals howled and whimpered in the distance. She took a deep breath and distracted herself the only way she knew how. Ninety six days and four hours since we saw Father. Four days until we graduate from the academy. One week until we go into orbit. Eight days until we see his face again. Maria scolded herself for enrolling in the first place. It had looked so enticing – posters and banners hung all around the city. Two men barged into their classroom and spoke gruffly of the advances people like them could make, had already made. People spoke in low whispers about the free education and opportunities it provided for those 500 successful applicants.
