Growing up in a rural Wisconsin setting, one learns a lot of themselves. Why dairy is important. Why Green Bay Packers are an amazing football team. Playing music can be used to escape the stresses of everyday life. Most importantly, why I want to become a physician.
In high school, there was no clear picture for my future. With an immense grasp in science and math, I knew that was my calling. I wasn't sure of the overall field of study I aspired but I know I wanted to master it and enjoy it for life. My high school teacher referred me to the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Pharmacy School Preview Day. I attended the event my junior year and was washed over in awe. I found a greater appreciation for the use of medicine and the applications
The Pittsburgh Steelers are an amazing football team because of their wide receivers, running backs and good chemistry between teammates. The purpose of this essay is to prove that the Steelers have the capability to be a playoff team.
I have spent my time as a student pharmacist learning about opportunities within clinical pharmacy and making certain that I was equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed. In my pursuit, I became an active member of pharmaceutical organizations, held multiple leadership positions, attended clinical conferences, established research projects, participated in community service events, and other initiatives. I excelled academically, which was manifested in not just a high academic standard but also in tutoring fellow classmates and arranging sessions with other pharmacy students to help them improve time management and study skills. I shadowed pharmacists and residents before my advanced pharmacy practice experiences commenced to discover which areas of clinical pharmacy I found intriguing. I have obtained valuable pharmacy practice experiences in five specialties thus far including inpatient internal medicine, long term acute care, geriatrics and telehealth, and primary care. Through these rotations, I built upon the knowledge I acquired from my didactic courses but also developed patient-centered approaches and strengthened my clinical skills. I enjoyed many aspects of my rotations, including contributing pharmacotherapy recommendations, providing patient education, attending rounds and interdisciplinary team meetings – all of which have solidified my desire
Last season, the Green Bay Packers were 60 minutes away from a Super Bowl berth, which seemed farfetched in Week 11. At that point in the season, they were in the midst of a four-game losing streak with a record of 4-6.
The Green Bay Packers have always had in interesting dynamic with its local city and Brown County, which is the county the franchise resides in. According to the 2010 census, Brown County had a population of 248,007 people, and the City of Green Bay had 104,057 people, which makes it the 139th largest city in the United States (Census). The next smallest city with a professional football team is New Orleans, which is the 51st largest city in the country (Census). The reason the Green Bay Packers are so interesting is because they reside in such a small city, that their influence on Brown County’s economy must be large in comparison. Another reason why I wanted to look at the Packers is because they are the only NFL team that
As the coming years approach, I want my future to hold both the passion to explore new opportunities and the strength to overcome new challenges. With the experiences of my high school career, I aspire to take all the things I learned to transition into a college environment where my ideas can be challenged and shared. Where I can learn from others; where I can seek the opportunity to make a direct impact towards saving lives. I believe I can do great things. Through tenacity I will not only be gratified in becoming a doctor, but also be able to share my compassion for others through
During my four years at Brooklyn Technical High School, I was part of the Gateway to Medicine program. I was introduced to courses such as anatomy & physiology, organic chemistry, and biology. These extremely challenging classes piqued my interest to explore a future career in health care. The Gateway to Medicine program was multi-faceted, I went from dissecting cats to learning about spontaneous de-combustion. My guidance counselor also helped prepare me to choose a career in the medical profession.
At the time I was taking art class as my elective, but I started becoming interested in health. I found I was doing very well in classes like biology and anatomy and I became interested in a career in Dermatology, especially when I discovered Dr. Sandra Lee, also known as Dr. Pimple Popper. This is when I decided to join the Health Academy pathway. Health Academy has furthered my education and given me incredible opportunities. It has taught me many useful things like understanding medical terminology, how to do vital signs, and becoming CPR certified. We also have guest speakers come in and talk about working in the medical field. It’s inspiring and interesting to hear their stories about how they found their
Throughout the majority of my life, I had dreams of becoming an attorney and did not consider medicine as a profession until much later in my academic career. I had previously pictured myself pursuing a career in intellectual property rights and hoped to become a patent attorney, given my interest in the scientific field. My interest in patent law led me to take science courses that piqued my curiosity. I soon found myself involved in undergraduate laboratory research, focused on discovering new drugs to treat chronic pain syndromes while preventing drug tolerance and limiting the side effects of conventionally used narcotic pain medications. During my last year of college, I was accepted into law school, however I ultimately did not feel that I was truly pursuing my passion and decided to withdraw my acceptance. I then found myself with a college degree and an unclear direction in life, unsure of what new career I wanted to pursue. Shortly after graduating, I discovered a medical scribe vacancy in my hometown's Emergency Department (ED). Working as a scribe in the ED was a profound experience that undoubtedly shaped my career path and inspired me to become a physician and apply to medical school.

After a long road of constantly changing my mind, I can ultimately thank my dad for helping me choose this career path. He influenced me to not only attend SDSU, his alma mater, but he also introduced me to the field of pharmacy. I am extremely excited to pursue this path, and I know with my dad’s guidance it will be much easier to make all the decisions I will
After completing my Associate's degree and marrying the love of my life, I applied to the prerequisite Bachelor's program at East Carolina. However I declined my acceptance to accommodate the birth of our first child. As our family changed in location and size, my to judiciously pondered my options. I began researching pharmacy after two trusted health care
Initially I was preparing for pharmacy school, but I realized that it was not an active profession and the only way I could work with patients is to distribute prescribed drugs to them. I was young and immature and chose a profession based on financial benefit. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree in biology, I decided to explore the medical field by applying for a volunteer position supporting direct patient care at a hospital.
Life has a tendency to throw opportunities your way, many you can see coming and many you aren’t prepared for. However, there’s a special category of opportunities that change your life in ways unexplainable and shape us to become what we perceive as a better image of ourselves. These opportunities are the memories we hold dear and remember for many more years to come. This memory for me was the National Academy of Future Physicians and Doctors. The National Academy of Future Physicians and Doctors is a Congress of medical and science leaders. These leaders reach out to high school students who seek to become future leaders themselves. With the invitation from a Congress member and the recommendation of a teacher, students all over the country are invited to participate in the annual convention.
Throughout the course of my first semester in the pre-pharmacy program, I participated in a class called Introduction to the Pharmacy Profession. The purpose of the class was to establish general knowledge about the job of pharmacists and to assist the students with their future plans. The class introduced many guest speakers who have jobs in all different areas of pharmacy. Before listening to each speaker in class, the students were asked to write three questions about each specific job based on the required reading from the APhA Career Pathways Program. The students also participated in Common Read Events to broaden their knowledge about diversity.
For me, choosing to pursue a career in pharmacy was far from planned. I knew that I wanted to find a profession which I could find self fulfilling. So, one could say I knew as much about pharmacy and its history as an average person. I’ve always imagined that pharmacy and the entire profession as a whole was relatively modern. In other words, I never really took pharmacy as a profession with a history. I’ve always thought that pharmacy and medicine, as one, essentially made its largest strides with the technology boom of the 21st century. During my visit, I realized I was both right, but also, wrong in a sense.
