Greek Gods
There are many different Greek gods. Some are more powerful than others. Most of them have kids who also have powers. Their kids help them protect things or even fight with them when they need it. The gods all live different and have different powers. Three interesting Greek gods are Zeus, Athena, and Poseidon. These gods each have different lifestyles (Hamilton 21).
Zeus was one of the most powerful gods. He was the ruler of all the gods. “Zeus became the supreme ruler. He was Lord of the Sky, the Rain-god and the Cloud-gatherer, who wielded the awful thunderbolt. His power was greater than that of all the other divinities together”(Hamilton 21). Zeus was a great god, but he never helped gods that were liars. Many gods referred to Zeus as “the father.” “Zeus, most glorious, most great, God of storm-cloud, thou that dwellest in the heavens”(Hamilton

He is also a very powerful god. “Poseidon was the god of the sea, storms, floods, and earthquakes. His brothers were Zeus, king of gods, and Hades, god of the underworld”(“Gale”). Poseidon could use his powers to help or bring harm to other gods. If you were to make him angry he could create strong waves and violent storms. “From his jeweled palace under the sea, Poseidon controlled all the world’s oceans as well as the violent forces of nature such as earthquakes, storms, and floods”(“Gale”). The symbol of Poseidon was the trident. It was one of his most powerful possessions. “He was commonly called “Earth shaker” and was always shown carrying his trident, a three-pronged spear, with which he would shake and shatter whatever he pleased”(Hamilton 23). Poseidon also had a really bad temper. He was always starting trouble when another god made fun of him. “The Greeks believed Poseidon to be the angriest, greediest, and most unpredictable god of them all. He often caused problems with other gods to get what he
In the religion and mythology of ancient Greece, Poseidon was the god of the sea and of water in general. Unpredictable and often violent, he frequently represented the destructive power of the sea and was also the god of earthquakes. He was closely associated with horses as well. In art, Poseidon was typically shown as a bearded man carrying a trident (a three-pronged fishing spear) and accompanied by a dolphin or a tuna. He traveled over the sea in a chariot pulled by creatures that had the heads and bodies of horses and the tails of fish.
The crown stood for the fact that he was superior to the other gods in the Pantheon of gods. “He was often crowned with a wreath of celery or a simple headband” (Poseidon) Also, his trident stood for complete dominance over the sea. Poseidon had sea green eyes and when he got really angry, he eyes changed to storm grey and he would make a terrible storm happen. He usually dressed in a robe or naked with a cloak draped loosely. His beard was wavy brown with grey streaks.
Poseidon is God of the sea and protector of all aquatic feature. Like his brother Zeus he drew lots with his
Zeus is one of the most commonly known Greek gods. Zeus is also called Jupiter & Dias. Zeus is known for the god of the sky and the king of the gods. He was married to Hera but had many affairs when he was with her. One of his weapons were a thunderbolt ,which he used to throw at people to displeased or defined him.
Some people believe that Poseidon is the most formidable villain in literature because he is angry, powerful, and vengeful.Unfortunately, Poseidon is angry. According to the book the Odyssey, “Poseidon god of the sea, stared angrily down at him, brandishing his great
He was asked by Demeter to create the most beautiful creature the world had ever seen. Poseidon wanted to impress her, so he created the horse. He ruled his kingdom with a trident, which created earthquakes and could shatter any object. He was under Zeus in power, but above Hades. Poseidon was viewed as a very greedy god, and had multiple disputes with other gods due to Poseidon trying to overtake their
Poseidon was one of the six children of his parents, Cronus and Rhea, and he was the second son of Cronus and Rhea. Also, Poseidon was swallowed by his father because he didn’t want anymore children. Also, Poseidon lived in three different places, earth sea and mount olympus. Poseidon is the god of sea, storms, and earthquakes. Poseidon has five different symbols, the horse the trident the bull the sea foam and the dolphin.
Poseidon is really angry and enjoys revenge on others, including Odysseus in The Odyssey. He was known to control earthquakes by his anger, and people prayed to him and he was thought to end them too. Area's with a lot of quakes had temples for him, to try and please him so he would not cause destructive earthquakes in their land. He was also seen as manly and many meeting of men were held in his temples, his ideas of man even turned a girl into a man in one myth. Poseidon does not like Odysseus, but cannot kill him since that would be going against Zeus.
Zeus was the rain god, ruler of the heavens, king of the gods, and the god of law, order, and fate. Unlike God, Zeus had a mother and a father. With approximately seventy wives, Zeus fathered around ninety-two children. The Christian God, having no wife, only fathered his one and only son, Jesus. Zeus and his brothers drew lots for their share of the universe, which concluded with Zeus becoming the supreme ruler. After an uprising with his father, Kronos, Zeus became the ruler of heaven and earth.
Poseidon is the ancient Greek god who resembles the power of the untamed, the brutal, and the wild. After the defeat of the Titans, Poseidon drew straws with his brothers and got the middle straw. Therefore, he became the lord of the Sea, earthquakes, and horses. The Romans knew Poseidon as Neptune. He is also associated with clouds, which was essential to agriculture. Poseidon could create springs, floods, and even tidal waves when angered. Besides the sea, Poseidon is also connected with the earth. It is believed that his anger is
In ancient times around 800 B.C. a civilization arose that would become a great power called Greece. Poseidon was important to these people because the myth of Poseidon explained all the things that happened to the Greeks at sea so they could attain a greater knowledge of everything else and now have a form of religion which would cause a spark of order and unity. Poseidon also stood as one of the most powerful major gods. He is connected to our lives today through popular culture and literacy. Poseidon also stands as an example of power that could represent law enforcement or our military/homeland security.
Thousands of years ago, the ancient Greek civilization had a god for everything that they could have thought of. One such god was Poseidon. Poseidon was the god of the sea and horses (Gil). Symbols that represented Poseidon included the trident and dolphin(Gil). He became one of the most well known of the gods because of his fierce temper and his adulterous ways. Poseidon was also part of many battles, such as the Trojan Wars. (Poseidon: Greek) He also caused many hardships for Odysseus as he returned home from the war.(Gall 49). Poseidon was a lustful (Gall 48) being who showed signs of violence and was also known to hold fierce grudges against those who wronged him (Poseidon).
Greeks believed in many gods: Zeus, Poseidon, Athena ext. The Athenian legend claimed that Poseidon and Athena were rivals, they held a contest on the acropolis.
Olympian gods and goddesses looked like men and women (though they could change themselves into animals and other things) and were–as many myths recounted–vulnerable to human foibles and passions. The Greeks had twelve main gods that they worshipped. Those gods consist of the following: • Zeus (Jupiter, in Roman mythology): the king of all the gods and god of weather, law and fate • Hera (Juno): the queen of the gods and goddess of women and marriage • Aphrodite (Venus): goddess of beauty and love • Apollo (Apollo): god of prophesy, music and poetry and knowledge • Ares (Mars): god of
