A grant is a sum of money given by an organization for a specific purpose that does not have to be repaid. The purpose of this report is to describe two of the grant data resources. The federal grant reservoir provides a listing of available federal grant money and the qualifications that must be met. Federal grants exist to provide funding for projects that provide public services and stimulate economic growth. Grants are one of the many forms of federal financial assistance and are used to support critical recovery initiatives, research and many other causes. The Foundation Center is another grant data reservoir, but provides listings of private funding. They provide a way to connect people with the resources they need through …show more content…
In order to be eligible for funding, the person or organization requesting the funding must have common goals which match the grant requirements. One of the many advantages of the grant resource sites is that they make it much easier to match applicants with available funds. Section 4: Who authorized or sponsored it? The public federal grant register is sponsored by the U.S. government. It was established in 2002 as a result of the President’s Management Agenda. It is managed by the Department of Health and Human Services and operates under the governance of the Office of Management and Budget. The federal agencies awarding grants are the U.S. Agency for International Development, Corporation for National and Community Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Treasury, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs,
The pros of receiving federal or state grants and some private charitable foundation include providing free technical assistance. The federal grants encompass large funds that can support the mission of the CHC with access to a large network of multiple partners, resources and guidance (Stombaugh, 2016). The cons of receiving grants include; the complexity of the grant applications especially the federal types when compared to private foundations due to red tape. The drawback of grant funding is increased oversight and monitoring of how funds are spent and whether results achieved matched those promises (Stombaugh, 2016). Although private organization, community foundations provide smaller grants; they may have simplicity in process of grant applications for eligible applicants and they may provide technical assistance through hotline and
To achieve this accomplishment I must communicate with the NRSA Payback officials, Grantees, University Business Officials, and Principal Investigators verbally and in written correspondence. As well, regular tracking of these items are communicated to Grants Management Specialists via an Excel spreadsheets I created to send the information utilizing

During the mid 1960s Grant was determined to modify its strategy and align itself in a different section of the market. One aspect of this strategy was to rapidly expand into suburban shopping centers and on the other hand, Grant also wanted to modify its product line (product mix). This rapid expansion required Grant to increase their physical store space to accommodate new items in their existing stores, in addition to an overall change in product mix (including larger items such as furniture and appliances). Not only did they have to increase their existing store space, they also needed to sequester new properties (which they did via long-term lease agreements) in suburban areas in order
Chapter one helped clarify grant terminology that I may run into while conducting grant research and filling out grant applications. I found this useful because I now have a better understanding of what certain grants are looking for and the grant language that is needed. This chapter also helped me learn how to set up a plan for keeping track of the grants I am working on and helped set up the process. The second chapter goes over how to create and complete funding plans for each grant. It stresses that without a plan it is difficult to have a successful grant process. This chapter has useful suggestions on what to look for within an organization to decide where funding is needed. The third

Categorical Grants: Categorical grants are defined as Federal grants for specific purposes, such as building an airport. In other words, categorial grants are the federal grants of money that require the money to be spent on one single project. Categorical grants allow for guidance on what the money is to be spent on. The federal government has more control over the money and what it is to be spent on. Due to this other aspects of the state government are not improved on due to the funds not being able to be put into other categorical programs or projects that are needed. The state government has to somewhat pay back what money the federal government gave them and this is why the amounts given are small amounts of money. An example of categorical grants is when money is to be put into school lunch programs and not to be spent on books or supplies for the
State and local government agencies, as well as nonprofit organizations and institutions are eligible according to the Act
The Federal Register was created in 1935 by then president Franklin D. Roosevelt and is essentially a newspaper which gives daily information to the public information about the availability of federal funding (Relyea, 2011). It provides “administrative regulations, rules, and orders, and greater transparency in the creations of such law.” concerning federal agencies (Relyea, 2011). The Federal Register gives the public information on hundreds of grant programs from several different agencies and according to the Grants.gov website, awards “over $500 billion” each year (About Grants.gov, n.d). This organization also contains information on executive orders, and proposed rules and regulations (About Grants.gov, n.d). Like The Foundation Center, the Federal Register provides all possible information into one place which is beneficial to those seeking funding.

The act made $275 billion available for federal contracts, grants and loans and all recipients of federal funds must now report quarterly on the use of the funds. The use of these government funds is available to the public to see on Revocery.gov. (The Recovery Act)
My grant search experience was not as hard as I imagined. I used Grant.gov to find my grants. I performed five to six searches and was satisfied with what appeared. Four grants stood out to me, but I chose the three above. My strategy for going about this was to type in key words like “breakfast,” “obesity,” “nutrition,” “eating,” and “eating habits.” There were not many options to choose from; but from what was available, I felt as though the resources were fitting for my

During this week I learn so much about grant writing. The area of grant writing I am strongest includes doing the research for a grant and getting the application completed. The area of grant writing I will struggle (or will struggle most with) with is financials and the writing. My weakness would be the writing part I would have to have someone that major in English/Communication or someone who is a great writer.
