Intro & thesis:
Jesse Owens once stated “We all have dreams. But in order to make those dreams a reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, self discipline, and effort.” To change the world, one must be strong-willed, have self respect, and put in much toil. Golda Mabovitch Meyerson or Golda Meir was born in Ukraine on May 3rd, 1898. She was a politician, Zionist, and an educator. She created a Jewish homeland (Taitz & Henry, 1996), was Instrumental in the politics of Israel, and climbed the political ladder to become Israel’s first woman Prime Minister and only the worlds fourth woman in power. She illuminated the world by giving the Jews a chance to live without persecution and women a chance to see what they can do other than traditional woman jobs.

Although Golda Meir is not a very popular name you would hear every day, she most certainly did enough to deserve recognition. She helped create a Jewish homeland (Taitz & Henry, 1996). In the Torah, the Jewish bible, God promised the Israelites, old world Jews, a Promised Land or Eretz Israel. At the time, Jews and women were at the bottom of the social pyramid. Meir wanted to become a teacher, but her parents disapproved of higher education for women and urged her to get married instead. However, she refused and ran away to her sister’s house (Taitz & Henry, 1996). While Meir was still at her sister Sheyna’s house, she listened to Zionist and anarchists “whose debates helped refine Golda’s political philosophy.” (Pogrebin, 2009). Pogroms, Organized massacre of a particular ethnic group, and antisemitism were jew’s worst enemies and it was hard to go somewhere without something negative
