"Why should I keep trying?", she asked, "not one person in my family has ever made something of themselves." "You've got to stay confident in your abilities and you can't give up either, it's necessary for you to achieve your dream!", I said, I was trying to help her accomplish her goal of finally going to college. At that point in time, I was on the verge of giving up but I knew, that she wouldn't take the initiative herself, she needed someone to inspire her to follow her dreams. She was giving up, and she hadn't begun to try! I instantly wondered if she knew the weight her decision would impact. I pledged that I would help her obtain her desire of going to college.
I had met Emma my junior year of high school. She had recently moved to our small town, and appeared to be a hardworking athlete with ambition, I was intrigued and wanted to become friends with her. Nonetheless, I attempted many conversations, all appeared to be off to a great start, she was confident in the sports she played, but not so much in school. She was meek in class, and when teachers called on her for the answer, most appeared to be wrong. I offered to help her in school when I realized she didn't understand how the teachers educated their students, and to my delight she readily agreed to my help.

she didn't care because it wasn't expected of her to go to college and her family and Emma didn't have any faith that she could get a scholarship on any of the sports she played. She often spoke of her difficulty understanding, and how hard it would be for her family to afford any type of college education for her. I was shocked at her misguided thoughts and came to the realization that she didn't believe in herself either. I was now determined to learn and believe in herself once
College can be very helpful in more ways than just giving people more head knowledge. I do not disagree that people will benefit from learning a trade skill. In my personal opinion I think we should teach the basics of some trade skills in high school, and let the student decide if a college education is something they want to pursue. After coming to a college I do see that people should come even if it is for two years. The debt is always in issue when coming to school, but there are plans you can make to pay them off. Coming to college can do a lot to help anyone, but for the students that are coming right out of high school, college can be a safe place for them to experience the real world. In some cases it can give them some much needed
When most teens getting ready to go off to college think of getting away from home, but
At the moment allot of people not only in the united states but in the world are indecisive about going to college. Some of them are scared of the hardwork and dedication that they would have to commit to but the money that they would have to pay. There are alot of people that didn't go to college and are very successful. Although teachers make it seem like its a requirement to go to college, it’s not, it’s the students decision. It is not gonna help the teachers out when people go to college.
Going to college is very important to because it extends my education giving me a better chance of achieving my goal, of getting my computer science degree.Well for the most part I believe that college will open up many doors and provide opportunities that I wouldn't be able to get with a high school education. Lately it has become increasingly hard to obtain a well paid job without a college degree. Why is this? Well employers are more likely to choose a college graduate for the job instead of the high school graduate, because of their more extensive learning experience. More than likely people that don't continue to college end up working in ether in a fast food joint or outside in a back breaking job. Both jobs which I wouldn't like to
Throughout college Amy wasn't really the type to study a lot. She would go out and party then I asked her, “If you could go back in time to your college self what advice would you give.” She didn't really have to think hard about this as she simply stated “ I would study more.” Since she didn't study she didn't have the best grades she had average grades which made her have to work harder to graduate. When she finished explaining her sition with grades I asked , “Did your career choice change.” She a took a minute to answer but when she did she simply replied “ Yes at first... I wanted to be a teacher… umm that’s what my dad was and my sister was going to be but in my sophomore year it wasn't for me so I change to hospitality.” At this point Amy was looking a little bit nervous. She was playing with her hands and she already drank her grande coffee in under 10 minutes. She also didn’t make a lot of eye contact. I feel like her college experience wasn’t easy for her and that she made a lot of mistake that she regrets. Knowing that college is a new change to someone's life I asked, “ Did college change you in anyway.” She awkwardly cough and took a few seconds to answer
Even though some people have a belief that teens should “mature”, or graduate high school before they are able to legally drive without adult supervision, I strongly disagree on account of the following reasons.
Coming to college has shown me information and knowledge I never thought I was capable of learning and it will be knowledge I will use for the rest of my life. I came to college last year for my own personal growth and to expand my horizons. I thought about what I wanted to do after high school and continuing my education was number one on my list. I’m here simply to better my future, expand my knowledge, increase my potential, and learn more about myself. I want to make my family and myself proud by completing college and getting a degree. Bettering my future and making sure I have the information to be able to do my future career is my top priority because it’s the only thing I have continually been working for since the 9th grade. Expanding my knowledge in these courses that will soon get me to the school I need to be at is a compelling reason for me to stay motivated enough to wake up in the morning and push myself to come to school. I hope to increase my potential and develop into
Emma centers her time towards what she excels at the most which includes dance, theater, and her academics. When Emma is not busy with her activities and academics she likes to watch Friends, snuggle with her cats, and eat Sour Patch Kids. Her two biggest pet peeves are when she can hear someone chewing and when people do not care about their academics. Other things that she does not like include Workout Wednesday, tomatoes, and chalk. I am so glad that I was able to learn so much about Emma over the past four

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote from Nelson Mandela always clicked with me, because while many things can change the world, education is always at the root of it. The Ottawa County Early College program is an opportunity for me to practice with this essential tool. I feel that I am a good fit for the program because I have passion for my studies, am proactive in them, and I flourish under challenge. This amazing program excites me because it will help me to achieve my overall goal for my education; to positively impact the world. While I have many different ideas with what I want to do with my education, Early College will allow me to explore many different paths within a budget I
I must say I struggled with the idea of going back to college. I am 34 years old. What in the world was I thinking? College, now? How old will I be when I graduate? Well I went against my thoughts and self doubt and went for it. I am enrolled in college, community college, but it’s a start. Hopefully it will be amazing and will lead me to success. I am currently in my first quarter. I have a long way to go, but I am going to get there, no matter what.
Since that first day of their freshman year seniors anticipate a change from dependence to self-reliance, looking forward to becoming independent, no longer reliant upon others but upon self and soon the symbolic movement of the tassel from student to graduate will change everything. College is a time for adventure because you find yourself taking risks, learning to grow, and surrounding yourself with like-minded people. Three necessities that everyone needs to truly experience college.
It is a fact that getting into college is something everyone dreams about after leaving high school. The classes, the various activities, the diversity of people, the opportunities, building your path to your future… Those are the things that make the university a splendid and welcoming place, besides being a great help for what you want to become and do. However, everything has a cost, and college is no exception. Also, it is even more expensive than high school, unless you get a scholarship or a student loan.
Emma grows and matures before the readers. Her life depends on who she knows, how she presents herself and ultimately who she marries. Believing she was raised to adhere to the bourgeois lifestyle, Emma shows she has no problem following the strict social code of her environment but she also shows no problem in defying them. She lives in small Highbury, where everyone knows each other and gossips about one another. Outsiders also are gossiped about and judged, but based upon stories heard from others and never from a direct source. Emma has indulged herself in this lifestyle, tending to believe what she wants and not showing care for anything that does not ‘entertain’ her thoughts. Her social status allows her this luxury and she has no problem showcasing it through her snobbish behavior. Emma’s respected status in the community has also made her somewhat of person to follow, meaning that those typically considered beneath Emma follow along with her assumptions and ideas of other people. Being aware of her status has made Emma believe that holds no social obligation to anyone beneath her and that she could face no consequences for her actions if they were wrong. If she was to give anyone any of her time, it was because she found them entertaining so therefore she never created any long lasting friendships.
For me, the reason that why I go to the college is everyone in my senior high school does it.Most of students in Taiwan who have graduated from high school, they go to college rather than find a job. There are two reasons why I follow most of people’s footsteps to enter into college. First, I don’t truly realize what I pursue. Instead of thinking what I desire, I just has been taught to learn the knowledge of textbooks during schooldays. Second, I still have no ideas what kind of occupation is suitable for me. I consider that if I go to college, maybe I can get some ideas during four years. Therefore, I choose to continue with studying in order to figure out what I want to do in the future. In conclusion, I choose to follow most of people’s
