Globalization In The United States

Decent Essays

Globalization Have you ever stopped to wonder how the countries in the world interact with one another? Globalization is one way. Globalization, in my opinion, is the process in which people, goods, and ideas are spread throughout the world. This economic trend is the reason that someone can go to a Nike store in the United States as well as in England or even China. Globalization has costs and benefits, or negative and positive aspects, for every country. In my opinion, globalization's benefits outweigh its costs, and overall is a good thing to happen to our world. Depending on what country someone is living in, globalization can be beneficial. One of the benefits of globalization is that it lowers consumer prices (Collins). In some foreign …show more content…

In China, factory wages are lower than $1 per hour, while in the United States and Europe, wages are typically $15 to $30 per hour, so in China, there can be more workers for the same price. Therefore, products can be made for a cheaper price in other countries. This is the reason that many factories are built in foreign countries. Another negative characteristic of globalization is that it has affected our environment negatively since it started to increase. Some ways that globalization is negatively impacting our world's environment is the increase in the use of coal, as well as the increase of carbon dioxide emissions. According to Gail Tverberg from The Energy Collective, after China joined the world trade organization in 2001, their coal use started to increase rapidly (Tverberg). From 2001 to 2011, China's coal use increased from around 0.9 billion metric tons to around 2.25 billion metric tons. This increase in the use of coal is because of the many factories being built, as well as the coal used to power transport for the new products now being produced. Carbon dioxide emissions have also increased as a result of globalization. Between 2001 and 2011, carbon dioxide emissions rose from 25 billion metric tons to
