I feel that the seminar went very well because we had some very good conversations with different perspectives about the story. Everybody got a chance to say what they want to say and all of the topics were covered in detail. My experience as the moderator of the seminar was very entertaining because had the power to control the seminar. I enjoyed being able to talk to everybody about the topics and it was really interesting to see everyone's perspectives on the topics provided. My opinion has not changed during the session, but the people that had the same opinions as I helped further strengthen my opinion of them proving more reason than me me reevaluate my reasoning on the topics. How does Gilgamesh's story of the flood differ from the biblical story of the flood? …show more content…
Everyone was talking and discussing and the seminar was very absorbing at that part. There was not any bad parts of the seminar because everyone got to share their ideas in the way they wanted to be portrayed I really enjoyed the socratic seminar because I have never done anything like that In any of my classes before so It was very fascinating to hear everyone opinion and be able to challenge them on their
In the middle of the nineteenth century, archaeologists unearthed twelve clay tablets. Around the turn of the twentieth century, archaeologists finally managed to decipher the tablets written in Akkadian, the language of ancient royalty and diplomacy. The tablets tell of the story of Gilgamesh. (1)
I thought the meeting was professionally conducted. The meeting respected the schedules of the participants, followed the agenda, and ended the meeting on time. Everyone at the meeting spoke in a professional manner and using appropriate language, and all had the respect for each other. When one speaks, everyone listens attentively.
As for the weaknesses and strengths, one of the biggest weaknesses I've noticed was that there was not a smooth transition presented during the majority of the seminar. None of the students, except two at the very end of the discussion used “I agree” or “I disagree” when it was their turn to speak. This made it confusing for me, the audience because it seemed like what each student was saying had no connection to what the previous student was saying. Another weakness I've noticed was that many of the students used fill-in words such as “um” and “like”. I had a hard time trying to understand my classmates’s ideas and what they were trying to say because they kept using “um” and “like” in between words and sentences. In addition, as I mentioned above, a lot of the questions evolved around the conflict of the story. This became repetitive and I felt like many of the students repeated their answers. The last weakness I noticed was that nobody, except Andrew used direct quotes from the novel. I believe that using direct quotes would give more evidence and strengthen
“Religion is about turning untested belief into unshakable truth through the power of institutions and the passage of time- Richard Dawkins”. We all know the breath taking story of the Genesis flood, but have we ever noticed how similar it is to the Epic of Gilgamesh. Genesis is the story of how one God created mankind, along with everything else on Earth, and what punishments he put upon them when they acted wrong .Genesis is a chapter in the Holy Bible, which was written in the 18th century B.C. by Moses. Genesis is a Hebrew story about the creation of life and how God once destroyed it and Earth. The main characters were Adam, Eve, and the serpent. Each of them was provided a task from God, but disobeyed him and was punished forever.
3) What did you like about the event? What did you dislike? What did you learn from the event (BE SPECIFIC)?
Rate your performance during the seminar. How did you do? Why do you say this?
The seminar that was conducted among the students in the IB English class focused on the novel “A Prayer for Owen Meany” and the film “Simon Birch”. Upon this two topic, the students were able to concisely derive insightful meanings of the both the novel and the film. Personally, I believe that the class did an incredible job in conducting the seminar. All students had an opportunity to participate and certain students asked questions that transpired in the entire class to engage in a sociable discussion. However, there were a few flaws that seemed to recurrently appear during the seminar. These flaws that I noticed during the seminar was the format in which the seminar was conducted, for instance, I noticed that the class had a tendency to
The conference presented many opportunities to expand my network. Personally, I shared many experiences over the lunch tables. It was so great to met girls with great expertise in their areas. Many does not seem to be aware before, how brave they are. That is why the conference is so important. We saw
It was really fascinating for us to watch our peers opinions change on a topic they thought they knew a lot about.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Mesopotamian culture believes a flood from the gods can destroy mankind. Ancient Mesopotamians viewed the world as a small place. They were skilled craftsmen that built a boat that could withstand the might of the gods. They valued gold and silver. They needed to please the gods thru sacrifice and other religious practices. Their gods would communicate with them by secrecy and held council meetings like them. If it was not for the immortality and the divine powers the gods held they looked and acted much like the Mesopotamians.
I was a disappointed in the workshop. I felt like she told basic information and talked about things that had nothing to do with organization. It wasn’t significant to me, yet would be important to somebody that knows nothing about organization. I would attend another workshop in the event that it was something I knew nothing about the
I really enjoyed being discussion leader with Lauren and Dakota. I thought that the class was very enthusiastic and engaged in the actitvities we proposed.
German culture night here at und was an awesome experience. If it wasn’t for this class I probably wouldn’t have went to this event. I would have just stuck to my routine and stayed at home. I would not have gotten to experience what some of my culture is all about. I think it was a really cool experience. The two students that but it on where really great. Jessica Heller did an amazing job. I didn’t really get too involved into the event I was kind of nervous since it was my first time attending one of these events here on campus.
I thought that the most interesting from both of the seminars came from the first discussion. On the topic of standing for the pledge every morning, most people said that saying the pledge every morning should not be forced upon students. Beyond that though, there were points discussed about the place of the pledge within and outside of the classroom, and how a student’s understanding of the pledge differs depending upon their age. Some, such as myself, saw standing for the pledge as something that deals with living in America, and said that students should be encouraged to stand for the pledge due to the fact that we are living in America. Other students gave out more neutral opinions. Some student’s opinions expressed opinions that made
A few cons that I made note of were that most of the classrooms were not playing any sort of soft or quiet music. The music I hear in other classrooms made me feel comfortable and the silent classrooms made me feel awkward. The conference agendas that did not include the students playing games with their parents left out a fun and interactive component that I would have liked to see in every classroom. What stood out to me the most, in a negative way, was the teachers that had their students and parents review their behavior charts and graphs. Although I do like the parents can see when certain behaviors occurred, so that they could have a better
