Gifted Hands: a Benson Carson Story By: Julia Murtha
While reading this enchanting book, I have realized that I should not let the little things in my life be taken for granted. Ben Carson had a rough child hood, but he was a good kid. As a child he wasn’t the brightest or the richest, but he was a well mannered child. He was teased a lot during his elementary school years, just because he was not the brightest student in his class. He was tired of the constant bullying of his fellow students so, he began to read books. He just kept reading and reading, and the things he read just stuck to him. He became the brightest student in middle school, from the dumbest in elementary. During

They wouldn’t have been able to even see each other. So, thankfully he had performed the surgery and gave the young boys a normal life to live.
Gifted Hands: A Ben Carson Story Parte 3 By: Julia Murtha
As a child, I wasn’t the smartest kid in my class. I had trouble in most of my subjects. The other kids would always tease me and call me stupid; and I was tired of it. In middle school I bean studying and reading much more. I started to figure out that everything I would read, the knowledge from it would stay in my brain. On my free time if I wasn’t reading I would be praying. I starting reading every day and from that, I became the top student of my class. My mother was very proud of me knowing I was once at the bottom of my class and now; I have reached the top. I was able to get into a good high school. Of course at my new school, I was an outcast; not only because I am black but also the way I dressed and for my intelligence. Every day in my first year in high school I had begged my mother for new clothes that would help me fit in, and her response was always a no. Around the same time, I started to realize I had anger problems. One day while I was still worried about fitting in, my mom bought me a new pair of pants. I looked at her if she was nuts, I wouldn’t wear them for nothing. They were not what I had asked for. I
He has had a great impact on me and a million more people. His story has taught me to never give up and fight for what I aspire. His father walked out on him at the age of 8. Through phases of heartbreak, violence and financial struggle, his mother, Sonya Carter, who was also battling depression provided for Ben and his brother. She taught them that education will change their lives for the better. And it did. After being called dummy uncountable times and thinking he was one, he discovered, with his mother’s help, that with reading he could control his future. Within the space of a year and a half he went from the bottom of the class to the top of the
Ben Carsons succsess was not a path easily walked. As a child Ben struugled with school and easily fell behind. His mother dropped out of school in the third grade, and wasn't capabld of helping her sons with any of their school work. Once his his mother, sonya Carson, found
Millions of American adolescents aspire to be that famous doctor or their favorite t.v. actor. Many want to grow up to be successful business men and women. Many want to share knowledge with their peers and hear what others have to critique on their observations. We have to take a step back and actually assess how we can reach these glorious heights. How did Theodore Roosevelt become the courageous leader who lead the Rough Riders into the battle of San Juan Hill? How did Ben Carson become the first surgeon to separate conjoined twins? How did Barack Obama defy the odds to become the first African American President in the history of the United States of America? All three of these idoled men have one common denominator: Great Intellectual
Justin is a 14-year-old left-handed male who lives with his mother, Charlene, and his Father, Joseph. Justin attends North School in the rural area of Morrow County, Ohio. Justin was refereed to this agency by his school due to his behaviors in the classroom. When Justin was asked why he thought he was at the agency he said “My teachers do not like me and yell at me a lot.” Charlene notes that Justin is a good kid and that he is very intelligent. She went on to say that he just seems to go and go like he is the energizer bunny. Joseph notes that his son does not pay any attention when spoken to and needs to just get himself together and work harder. Per Joseph, “When he does his homework he cant stop moving. Whether it is his hands, legs, feet or arms he just keeps going.” Joseph notes that reading is Justin’s least favorite and most difficult subject. When asked what his best subject was Charlene noted that he excels at math.
"I also came to realize that if people could make me angry, they could control me. Why should I give someone else that much power over my life?" (-Ben Carson) While Ben Carson is now an extraordinary influential figure in our society, he wasn't always appreciated. At one point, he had to of had struggles, and that's where Carson's childhood played a role. Once that was over Ben was on fire with his education and career, he also earned several awards for his achievements.
With his father not present, Carson was raised by their mother, who worked two or three jobs at a once, usually as a family servant. Since they were poor, all relied on food stamps and other government assistance. Ben Carson had a very bad temper, in his book “Gifted Hands”, with a hammer, he tried to hit his mother on the head only over a clothing disagreement. Around ninth grade, he attempted to stab a friend, only because he changed the station on the radio. Luckley, the blade hit the classmates belt buckle and did not actually touch the student. The only answer that came to mind was God. He ran to his home after knowing what he did, locked himself in the bathroom with a bible. Cried and pleaded. Ben did not have the greatest childhood, but over all led him to where he is now.
Dr. Carson’s mother takes a job as a cleaning lady for a college professor. While in the performance of her duties she discovers the huge library inside of the professor’s home. Carson’s mother asks the professor if he read all of the books in the library. When the professor replies that he has read most of them. Carson’s mother immediately equates the professor’s success with his knowledge and initiates a strict discipline with her sons limiting them to less television watching and the reading of two books followed by the submission of two book reports each week. Benjamin Carson went from the bottom to the top of his class.

My public high school had misbehaved students and kids who didn’t care much about school. This resulted in the school having a poor academic system, although I did well it didn’t do a good job of preparing me for what was next. I attended Trevor Day School which at the time was a top 50 private school in New York City. They were granted the privilege of being on this list by having great teachers, a good learning environment, and one of the most rigorous curriculums in the city. This was a very cutthroat society that I had yet to encounter. As expected it was a drastic change, everyone was wealthier than me, there was racial tension, and in some ways it felt as if these kids were somehow smarter than me. Nonetheless, I had yet to realize that they weren’t in fact smarter than I was they just obtained the necessary tools to succeed in such an environment. I was one of the only colored guys in the school and I was on the basketball team. It was obvious that I was on financial aid and many people thought that I was granted with too much and I would fail off. Up until this point in my life I earned everything I received, but this was different; this time it was given to me. Therefore, with a lot given to me there would be a lot expected of me. I knew this prior to arriving at school, there were already a lot of eyes and pressure on
Throughout ancient history, one can find many different examples of civilization, each with different geography, political systems, and cultures. Although many of these empires were prominent and influential, one could argue that the two most contrasting, impactful civilizations were perhaps Egypt and Mesopotamia. These two empires had entirely different circumstances in terms of the land they were erected on, the peoples both in the land and surrounding it, and the social customs that developed. However, in spite of the wildly differing conditions, both Egypt and Mesopotamia were able to develop in such a way that the two cultures were both in a position to leave behind impactful legacies that still influence the world today. Before one considers how Egypt and Mesopotamia differ socially and politically, one must first understand the different geographies that drove
I grew up in small town known as Kinston, where most of my peers were underprivileged like myself. Instead of starting out in public school, I was enrolled into one of the two local charter schools. I was always put in the “smart” group in any activity, but once I started talking with public school kids and learning that we were being taught different made me doubt if I was truly was smart. When I was put in various community groups with majority public school kids, I felt outnumbered and uncomfortable because we had nothing in common. I started high school as a social outcast, but I made some really good friends. After I was put up against the public school kids, I did excel educationally. Instead of hanging out with my friends on the weekend,
Education leads to the success of many influential people, such as Dr. Ben Carson. In 2013, Dr. Ben Carson, a highly respected pediatric neurosurgeon gave a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast. Carson suggests that a lot of government policies under President Obama are failing. For example, national debt has severely decreased due to the lack of education. Through the use of optimistic and direct language, personal imagery with welcoming expressions and confident hand gestures, Carson gained the respect and trust of the audience, other well respected influencers and/or politicians. Carson’s ability to use these devices not only gained the trust of his audience, but also took control of his argument. This being, the United States should focus on
I gave Him the control of my life, and I started to notice an outcome. My parents would not dispute anymore, and I felt loved. God revealed to me that He has greater plans for my life and I began to see that His promise was true. Despite the fact that I am still bullied, I no longer let others words influence who I am. I was in 8th grade when acknowledged, college is nearby and that it is my responsibility to work. I was oblivious to study methods, organization, and time management. My aspiration was to earn an honor roll, and I did. I realized that if I failed to understand the content of the material, I ought to ask questions. My teachers had inspired me to work hard, and I fell in love with
I, Ladaisha Samone Ballard, am a sophomore at East Mississippi Community College. I am 19 years old and I plan to attend The University of West Alabama in the fall. With this being said, I am beyond honored to know that I will have the Grade Point Average that will stand out. I feel that I should be awarded this Scholarship because I have overcome every obstacle that has come my way. Hard work, determination and motivation made me stand where I am today. I must say it has not always been easy trying to keep my grade up. As I completed each semester through school, I have realized failure comes with trying to succeed. I am the only person in my mother’s household that attends college, so this is pushing me to higher my education. I come from
The real historical Macbeth upon which Shakespeare based his character, Macbeth, is an honorable, notable leader. Shakespeare’s Macbeth begins as a brave and capable warrior, but he changes to a cruel, ambitious person after hearing his prophecies from the witches. The real King Duncan, the King of Scotland, dies honorably in battle, and Macbeth honorably succeeds the throne. However, in William Shakespeare's Macbeth, Macbeth kills King Duncan secretly to avoid suspicion so he could become the next king. In William Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth is a tragic play that shows how Macbeth self-fulfills the prophecy that the witches had given him by becoming a murderer to fulfill his destiny, which leads to his death.
