They started CPR before medics took him to Gibson General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. ISP says Sherman was in his cell alone for about two hours and when his cellmate returned, he discovered Sherman hanging from a bed sheet. Sherman was in jail on charges breaking and entering, and dealing in meth. So far, ISP does not suspect foul play, and an autopsy has been

This includes collecting taxes, budgeting, infrastructure maintenance, jail supervision, among others. Keith Huff is one of the many cases that demonstrate how and why incarceration rates continue to rise. By himself, Keith has cost the State of Kentucky 1.1 million dollars. He has been quoted saying this, “I do great in prison for some reason. It’s sad but I do great in, I mean, because I got the structure, people telling me what to do. When I got somebody behind me on me, I do great in life.” He speaks how prison is like a revolving door. He grew up in a neighborhood where almost everybody gets locked up. His neighborhood, Beecher Terrace statistically has one in six people go in and out of prison. It seems to be that he was destined from the start to enter this unending cycle. Keith Huff continues to return to jail. He has nothing no home, no life, and no money. Jail has become a safe haven for him.

Mediation will be conducted between Mr. Derrick Cephas, Chairperson of the New York City Board of Corrections (NYCBOC) and Ms. Ariana King*, who is a founding member of a group called CloseRiker. As one could speculate, the relationship between the two entities has always been troublesome, as both sides continue to push their agenda via the media. According to the documents, Ms. King would like to have Rikers Island City Jail shut down immediately, yet Mr. Cephas feels as if changes could be made and the jail would not have to be shut down. Ms. King has filed a case with the State of New York Attorney’s Office in addition to requesting the federal government step in and order the jail be shut down. As part of the process or resolution, the judge that would hear the case in New York state, Judge William Brown*, has ordered the case to mediation before he will hear the case.
