The artist I chose to do research on was Rene François Ghislain Magritte. Magritte was born November 21, 1898, Lessines, Belgium to a wealthy family. He had three younger brothers, his father was in the manufacturing business, and his mother was thought to be a milliner before getting married. A man painting in a crematory and his mother’s suicide in 1912 influenced Magritte’s progress as an artist. Magritte painted to find comfort from his mother’s death. In 1916, he left home and studied art at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels for the next two years. Although he was not interested in his classes, he became friends with Victor Servranckx, who taught Magritte the three styles: Futurism, Cubism, and Purism. Then, in 1921, he joined the
The science of oil painting came to it's full fruition in the nineteenth century. The palette now included dazzling colors which could electrify a painting. First a student of Cabanel's and later influenced by Mariano Fortuny y Marshal, Regnault was one of the rising stars of the Romantic movement. He lived a passionate life, traveling to the Middle East even though he was broke, hanging out in Spain as it rose up against Queen Isabella the Second, he loved excitement and adventure.
Magallanes was raised in the Azusa Barrio of Los Angeles. His artwork is influenced by the cultural and social elements of his upbringing. At the age of fifteen, he was expelled from high school, but was accepted into the Ryman Arts program at the Otis-Parsons College campus which encouraged him to become a professional artist. The experience of participating in two distinct worlds continues to inform the work.
Sol LeWitt was a pioneer in Modern Art. He was a father to Minimal and Conceptual art styles, both of which have a huge impact on much of the art done today. If not for his family, however, he would never have become such a huge impact. DeWitt’s mother took him to art classes at Wadsworth Atheneum as a child, which led to him receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Syracuse University in 1949. We have Sol’s mother to thank for his influence on art today, as it was her who got him to take classes for it in the first place.
Prior to finishing my final piece I discovered how nostalgia and the recycling of materials is typical in art, especially amongst artists inspired by the past. Research on modern artists such as Doxey, inspired me to paint a chair to accompany my cushions. Further examination on a collection of art movements for example, Classicism, and Neoclassicism influenced my perceptions of art. Further research on the likes of Van Gogh, especially his piece, Dutch, 1853–1890, which inspired me to experiment with gouache, acrylics, and colour palate
Claude Monet was the leader of impressionist painting movement. Manet, Cezanne, Degas, Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir, and Alfred Sisley, gave art the ability to
The artist I researched is Cindy Sherman. She is a American Photographer born on January 19, 1954 in Glen Ridge, New jersey. Her parents had five children and Cindy was the youngest of them all. Her parents were not quit interested in art. Her dad was a engineer and her mom was a teacher. In the early 1970s, Cindy enrolled at State University of New York to study art. There, Cindy discovered that painting was not her gift. Cindy stated, "I didn't want to make 'high' art, I had no interest in using paint, I wanted to find something that anyone could relate to without knowing about contemporary art. I wasn't thinking in terms of precious prints or archival quality; I didn't want the work to seem like a commodity." She could not express her artwork through panting. Instead, she began to take photos.
Henri Matisse was known as the Fauvists leader due to his work of pure colors and bright lights. In 1906, he traveled to Africa and was inspired by the sculpture art. One of his best known works are the Back relief and Large Seated Nude. His work reflected the different body shape of African woman. In 1907, The Blue Nude is a series of paintings that was inspired
The abstract expressionist whose work I admire the most is the work of Jackson Pollock. He was born on January 28, 1912 in Cody, Wyoming. “He was an influential American Painter, and the leading force behind the abstract expressionist movement in the art world” (Barbara Moore). When Pollock was 8, his father, who was an abusive alcoholic, left the family, and Pollock's older brother, Charles, became like a father to him. While the family was living in Los Angeles, Pollock discovered his passion for art.
Rene Magritte was an enigmatic and strange man who painted surrealism paintings. Little is known about his childhood except that his mother, Regine Magritte took her own life by drowning herself in the Sambre river. Young Magritte is thought to have discovered her body floating with her night garment covering her face. There is speculation that this trauma was an influence on many of Magritte’s works. When Rene Magritte took up his brushes, he created beautiful visual riddles that delight and bewilder the viewer. His clean lines and highly detailed finishes made his brush strokes nearly invisible; his paintings look as if they came from a printing press. Magritte referred to his paintings as “his labors.” He did labor over the paintings
Oscar-Claude Monet was a famous French painter who was one of the main artists of the Impressionism movement. Monet was an artist who was obsessed with light. The Royal Academy of arts didn’t accept his work but this was never a setback for him.
Every artist has his or her own style of painting. Each painting tells some sort of story or has some type of personal meaning to the artist. One of the most important figures in modern art is Pablo Picasso. Not only was Pablo Picasso a genius in the field of abstract art, but he also experimented with sculpting and ceramics. Pablo Picasso has taken the world to many places with his unique style of work which is why I believe he is considered to be a genius of the 20th century.
René Magritte Belgian Surrealist artist René Magritte was a master not only of the obvious, but of the obscure as well. In his artwork, Magritte toyed with everyday objects, human habits and emotions, placing them in foreign contexts and questioning their familiar meanings. He suggested new interpretations of old things in his deceivingly simple paintings, making the commonplace profound and the rational irrational. He painted his canvasses in the same manner as he lived his life -- in strange modesty and under constant analysis. Magritte was born in 1898 in the small town of Lessines, a cosmopolitan area of Belgium that was greatly influenced by the French.
Kandinsky transformed colour into a completely abstract art absolutely divorced from subject matter. The fauvists and expressionists shared an appreciation of the pure and simplified shapes of various examples of primitive art, an enthusiasm that was generated by Gauguin and extended to Picasso, Brancusi, Modigliani, Derain, and others.
(What was his philosophy? How did he influence the art world? What is his legacy? How does he challenge people to think differently about art? Challege ideas? Challenges boundaries set on
The famous Belgian surrealist artist “Rene Magritte” was famous for his everyday imaginary and interesting graphics.
