Getting rid of summer break would hurt a lot of students; they do not have the patience to go to school during the school year—taking away what is supposed to be their vacation could possibly break them. Making kids go to school during the summer would take a toll on the way they act towards their classmates—especially towards their teachers. Some students would try to act out and get into trouble so they can go home and relax. Others might even go to the extent of getting suspended or expelled so they wouldn't have to go to school at all.
This is how the Year-Round School format would work. Students would attend school for a certain amount of days, and then the students would receive a longer break period. This would be repeated all year long. Primarily, the education administration is taking the summer break and splitting it equally throughout the year (nayre.org). The school districts that Year-Round School will help students, yet it may actually hurt them socially. For example, the long summer break provides students with the exciting opportunities such as camps and family vacations. These are learning opportunities that take place outside of the classroom by teaching young children valuable life skills including patience, teamwork, and tolerance (ltisdschools.org ). Also, teenagers may
Through this most students end up losing most of what they learned throughout the school year. With a more stable summer school program it’s not just being a “oh , I failed a class . I guess I am going to be going to summer school” , it can end up being “I am going to summer school so I can advance to possible take AP classes and hopefully have a better chance at getting to a good college and get a better job”. Also it can end up being very beneficial to both teachers and students alike. Take this for example jimmy is a 9th grader who is looking to advance in math . Say right now he is in math 1 and he wants to get to math 3 . The easiest way would be summer school and when the new school year comes around the student can go around and help other students who are struggling on the math that he took over the summer . It would be beneficial to the teachers in a way that they don’t have to run around the classroom helping everyone. Now for the issue 90% of the population is going to bring up where will we get the money for the hiring of teachers over the summer . The really is two ways to go about this the easy or the hard way . The hard way would to raise taxes a number of things such as anything that relates to
Making students go to school in the summer will make it hard for students who depend on full-time working during these months. In a story it states ”Many teens in our school district work full-time during the summer”. Then teenagers will not make any money and will not t have money for food, clothes, and rent for their families.
For many years, girls and boys would go to a year round school, and have breaks certain times of the year to help out at home or on the farm. Now days, only four percent of schools are year round. There are not many things that children have to go home for during the winter or summer anymore. Therefore, it is not a necessity to have summers off. However, having more year round schools, will create and easier life for students.
They will have nothing to do with their child that is supposed to be at school. And they can't afford to put their child in a daycare. Also, teens and college kids won't get the chance to work during the summer and get money for rent and other things like a house and a car. According to text 1, “Many high schools don’t employ a year round calendar because of sports schedules. And teens want to be able to take summer jobs.”This supports the fact that teens won't get the chance to earn money for things in the future. Many high schools Teachers won't get as long to plan lessons because they only have two to four weeks of planning in between school years. Although, year round school lets the kids go on smaller two to four week vacations and still have time to get their homework done. In
One reason we should not have year-round school is because it affects the kids. The main reason kids would not want year-round school is because it gets rid of a lot of their summer break. Instead of having a long two and a half to three-month break, they would be stuck with a measly one month. How the heck is that supposed to be fun? Another reason is because kids may want to have a job over the summer, and year-round school won’t let them do that. Another reason is because kids can learn things over summer break that they can learn in school. Some kids go to museums, or camps, or libraries over the summer, and they can learn a lot from these places.
During the summer an equivalent of one month of overall learning is lost. By the end of sixth-grade students that experienced learning loss are an average of two years behind their peers. One of the educational topics under discussion addresses whether or not students should attend school year round with only a month off during the summer. Year-round schooling is beneficial because students retain more information, have frequent breaks to recharge, and will advance quicker.
It is common that children forget the material they were taught before the summer break. The main cause for this reason is that the students have too long of a break. If the year round school policy was enforced, this would eliminate a large portion of this problem. Instead of missing a whole two months, the students would only miss two weeks after every four weeks. This would help the students to relax more, thus helping them not to become as bored in the classes and would ensure that the knowledge is being is
Such as going boating and playing sports, also getting the opportunity to do more activities that they’ve never done before. Also many kids enjoy the summer time they get for doing outdoor activities, such as going swimming and hanging out outside but if they're stuck in school, all summer they won't get the chance to do any of the normal summer stuff. Also they may not have the opportunity to hang out with friends because of all the schoolwork they be having to do all
To start with, if schools offered year round school, the kids wouldn’t forget as much information over the big, long, and fun summer. For example, if you go to balanced school year, yes you would have to go to school earlier, but you won’t have to review all the boring stuff from the previous year. In the long run it will help you out a lot. Also, you can be enjoying your extra-long break while other kids are in school, learning and being tortured.
Do you ever wonder why the kids cause so much chaos during vacation? Well they have too much time on their hands and not enough supervision. Back when we lived in a basic economy, summer vacation made sense because academic achievement mattered less. An absence of air conditioning or modern hygiene turned crowded schools into health-risks, and children had moms who were home every day. Times have changed now, so we have no need for summer vacation. Year Round schools would be successful because GPAs will rise and graduation rates will increase also children would have a safe place to go
Just with Regular schooling kids have difficulty settling after a huge break and even a summer break. How do you think they would react to more breaks ? It would cause children to have more of a chance having bad behavior and even "Summer Fever". Some Students in All year round schools have conflicts with Sports and their behavior can also change that way as well. Even having a hard time finding a job can affect behavior on not just the student but others as well. An article on Questia explains They consider summer to be a time of leisure. Is it really a time of Leisure if you have to go to school On and off
The last reason why school shouldn’t be year around is because students will have no summer.
Students need time to relax and de-stress. With the accumulation of homework, projects, assignments, tests and quizzes, students are constantly working and have no time to relax. This can be overwhelming, but students still put in the effort just to make it through the year because they know they can rest in the summer. Furthermore, this could cause students to become unmotivated because they will think that they are trapped in a prison in which they are boundlessly doing work and will never meet their own goals. A longer vacation will allow us to clear our minds and open them to new possibilities that would not be possible if we were to follow the same routine every day. Likewise, it is not only the students that need this vacation, but it is also the staff and faculty as well who would definitely rather see their family and friends instead of the students for a whole year. Most of these families go on holidays, but sometimes
The third reason why we shouldn’t have all year round –schools is because, its tradition to have 180 day’s strait with 3 months of breaks and it gives us more important things to do in the summer. According to Julia Sines, to have a 3-month summer and do more fun activities to do all summer is better than going to school year round. Kids want to go on vacations with their parents. Some athletic kids won’t be able to play travel sports. Scientist say that year round school kids drop out by their senior year (Sines). Most juniors and seniors work in the summer for money for colleges and to save up, but they won’t be able to get money. It’s more American to have 180 straight days with 3-month break. Billee Bussard stated, “It is an idea that has been tried and failed for more than 100 years,” (Sines). So talking to that quote, why would we start now. Kids love going outside and swimming and playing games and making money, but because the kids go to year round schools they only have 3 weeks to do these fun
