The Artist is a wonderful depiction of the transition from silents to talkies. One of the things that I enjoyed most about the film was the fact that even though its subject is the birth of talkies, for the most part, it remained silent. The film reflected on how sound films impacted the people within the industry. Many stars, directors, and editors went through what the character George Valentin experienced. It was a dark time and the many people of the industry lost their way. Many ended up losing their jobs and developing issues such as alcoholism.
