George Gray
“George Gray” is a poem about a man who missed out on many of life’s opportunities because he was so afraid of failure that he did not even try. He passed up love because he was afraid of being hurt, ambition because he dreaded all the changes that came with it and sorrow because he feared the pain. The poem begins with “George” staring at his own gravestone and realizing that there was nothing special to be said about him because he had done nothing with his life. He looked back on his life and realized that it would be so much harder then to regain all of his missed opportunities. The whole poem was a metaphor using a boat to represent “George’s” life and at the end, he let the boat sail freely and be guided by the winds

That is a risk that few people take because they never want the responsibility of having to work for something. Life can only be lived by those who work hard for their achievements and follow through on their ideas and goals. It is the people who never work for anything that are unhappy with what they see when they look back at their lives because they have achieved nothing to be proud of. Just the fact that they tried to better themselves by living more provides a sense of fulfillment.
All people have fears, whether they like to admit it or not. Their goal should be to get over those fears, whether they are of heights, swimming, speaking in front of large crowds or even something more minor. Getting over the most basic fears can mean so much to people and push them further until they have accomplished a lot of things that they want to get done. For example, someone who is afraid of heights should pick something (like bungee jumping) that has to do with heights and try it just to prove to himself that he has the ability to do anything that he allows himself to do. Sure, what he does might scare him, but how else can he ever expect to get over his fear? Another example, if a man wanted to ask a woman out on a date, he should ask her instead of sitting around and waiting for the love of his life to fall into his lap. Everything a person does

Who was George Rogers Clark? This is probably a question most people in America couldn't answer. The reason is very simple, George Rogers Clark was a hero in an age of heroism. He simply could not compare with the legends of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other Revolutionary War heroes. Clark nevertheless is very important, especially to the people of Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana who became apart of the United States of America because of his great leadership and bravery in military campaigns at Kaskaskia, Illinois and Vincennes, Indiana during the Revolutionary War.
suffer wrong first. But for others she will be perfectly fearless. Throw responsibility upon her, give her a school to teach.”1 Clara also spent a majority of her free time studying independantly and in 1852 she enrolled in Clinton Liberal Institute in New York. There she excelled as a teacher and her compassionate nature impacted the lives of each student that she worked with. One student in particular, George Ferguson, speaks fondly of her when he states “My memories of Miss Barton are certainly the most pleasant. She was kind to her students, pleasant in her work, gentle in disposition and took an interest in us all. We loved her almost as much as we loved our mothers, and it was not without pangs of regreat that we saw her give
I really enjoy how the story starts. The setting is well described and detailed. I don’t like Lord Henry at all. What kind of person he is, his marriage is a farce and doesn’t try to hide it. It seems he is just married because of how society required a man to. It’s as if he doesn’t even care about his wife.
Master establishes a foil in these two Spoon River Anthology poems as the reader observes the differences in the characters’ lives and outlooks. Uniquely, Masters creates characters who have died and now look back on their lives to give advice to the reader. For example, in “George Gray”, George is dead but knows he did not live life with a purpose. He
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the eldest of six children by Augustine Washington and his second wife Mary Ball. The majority of Washington’s education came from his father and after his death when George was 11 years of age in 1743, his elder half-brother Lawrence. Young George quickly learned the trade of surveying and at the age of 16 in 1748 he joined a surveying party sent out to the Shenandoah Valley by Lord Fairfax, a land baron. For the next several years Washington would continue surveying in Virginia and West Virginia where he acquired a life-long interest in the west. In 1753 he began his career in the military when the royal governor appointed him to an adjutantship in
Everybody has a different perspective on fear and everybody is affected differently. The Mental Health Foundation stated that, “Fear can last for a short time and then pass but it can also last much longer and stay with us. In some cases it can take over our lives, affecting appetite, sleep, and concentration for long periods of time. Fear stops us from travelling, going to work or school, or even leaving the house.” This quote shows that fear does not affect people as much as it does to others. Although, fear can affect people for a long time which can cause them to stay isolated from others. There are many types of fears and some examples of fears include: the fear of the number 13, the fear of spiders, the fear of heights, and many others. There are hundreds of fears and many people have these fears and everybody is affected differently.
It is like a job, if you get payed you will do your job. If you don't get payed, you are most likely not to do that job. Sometimes you just have to do it no matter what the cost is. It is life and you just have to except it.
In my opinion, some may have the opportunity to better their lives and some may have the opportunity, but choose not to use their abilities to improve their situations. Then there are others who are never given an opportunity and are therefore stuck in that situation. This would then be the decision of the individual on how to prepare and manage the “cards” in which they are dealt. However, there are some professions and lifestyles that are simply underpaid and not given that chance.
The collapse of China's Manchu dynasty was a protracted and sophisticated method. dynasty rule step by step folded throughout the last half of the nineteenth century and also the early years of the 20th, attributable to an advanced interaction between internal and external factors. One major causative thinks about dynasty China's downfall was European imperialism. the foremost devastating blow came within the narcotic Wars of 1839-1842 and 1856-1860, when that Britain obligatory unequal treaties on the defeated Chinese and took management of the city. Whether you're afraid of everything under the sun, or fearless everyone has had the feeling of fear overcome I believe anyone can overcome a fear. I have overcome a few fears in my life and believe with determination anyone can. I've been afraid of heights my entire life and overcoming that fear took years. I never thought it was possible for me to be in a roller coaster until that one day I was in a situation that made me surpass my fear. I've been afraid of heights since I can remember. Some people will scream and cry whenever they are far up in the air. To a person without that fear it may seem funny that being afraid of heights is childish stuff, but to me it's not. I personally am not a person to freak out about heights anymore since I finally conquered it by getting on a ton of rides and just letting it
