I 've never heard of the term genetically modified food before I take this course. Maybe I did, but I just never paid attention to it until now due to lack of interest on the topic. I 've heard of inorganic and organic food all the time though. I thought that farmers or manufacturers apply some sort of chemicals on the product to make them better in inorganic food. So to me, it was not a big of a deal because not only they try to make the product better but I also notice that inorganic food are way cheaper than organic food. Everytime I go to the grocery store, organic food are twice or more expensive than the popular inorganic products. When I heard of genetically modified food(GMF), the first thing that comes to my mind is mutated food. I did not know that GMF and inorganic products are the same. If I would have not known about GMF right now and somebody ask me if I would eat a GMF, the answer would be a persuasive no. But, now that I know that they are the same, I would not mind at all. The technology is often referred to as "biotechnology" or "genetic engineering". It transfers selected genes from organism into another even between nonrelated species. GMO’s or Genetically Modified Food is one of the most controversial topics that have been studied and debated for over 40 years. Scientists on both sides of the spectrum claim that these modified foods are safe for consumption, but also some argue that these foods are toxic and very harmful to human life. GMO’s are genetically modified organisms that are created and added in a lab experiment where DNA are extracted from one gene and added to another plant or animal. This allows the genes to mix with the DNA to create a desired product. For example, bigger apples, larger oranges, taller animals, and plants that can survive the changing climate. GMOs are different from organic food and products because chemicals and DNA modification is not needed for these natural stuff.
Diller changed me and caused me to be a more open person; more open-minded, open to new ideas, open to learning new things, open to meeting new people, etc… I learnt so much about different streams of Judaism and different ways that people practice the same religion, and having gone to a modern orthodox school all my life, I’ve been in a sort of bubble when it comes to Jewish education, learning only from one perspective. Genetically modified crops are harmful to humans and the environment and shouldn't be used. Agriculture should proceed in harmony with nature and nature only. That is why some people have decided to buy organically grown food. From their experiences with organic food, they believe that the organic system can be economically practical. This system also provides a wide range of environmental and social benefits, and most importantly, it enables consumers to make a choice about the food they eat. I know at first it sounds like a bad thing and that it is kind of scary that the food you are eating has been genetically altered. But let's say you have a cob of corn for lunch this is the corn that you are eating and it has been genetically altered. The genetically altered corn has had nutrients and other healthy ingredients added to it. This is what corn would look like if it had not been genetically altered. Not only is it unappealing to even look at much less eat but it is also not as healthy and less nutritious.

This is a type of orange that is genetically modified (had tits genes changed) specifically so it would grow without seeds. Many foods are genetically modified today. Oranges, corn, tomatoes, potatoes, squash, and many others have had their genes changed. In fact, the average person will eat at least one genetically modified food everyday without realizing it. According to a survey by USDA 26% of people asked believed that they had never eaten a genetically modified food.

However, beginning in 2014 these chemicals could be found in 90% of corn, cotton, and soybeans produced in the United States. The looks and taste of genetically modified organisms may seem inviting but are the health risks really worth it? In my opinion, I believe that while genetically modified organisms do have positive feel and comfort they pose a large health risk to all who choose to consume them.
