Societies debate against each other on whether or not genetic engineering in humans should be used in humans. When using this type of research and technology in humans, it means modifying the type of organism(in this case humans) by manipulating the genes to the standards society thinks is the best. Scientists think humans should use genetic engineering towards curing diseases while other scientists think humans should use this new technology towards creating new babies and modifying the child to societal standards. Using this technology and new ways of life has positive and negative effects towards the human population. With this new technology societies are able to cure diseases, create better medicines, create better transplants, and have the ability to live longer. The new technology advances with this engineering process can lead us to creating children the way we want them. This means science can allow us to have children be “perfected” while still in the womb. Using this process gets rid of the normal embryos carried by the mother and the new embryos are implanted with the traits the family requested. By using this process, scientists, the government, and certain families believe we are crossing the line in “trying to play God and cheat him out of his chance to decide”(Rinkesh). Nowadays, people will claim that the world is on the verge of scientific revolution that leads to the most controversial idea; genetic engineering of humans. While there was success in the research, there also existed the cost of many errors. Scientists soon want to move onto the next step – genetic modification in humans. The human aesthetic could soon be in the hands of men. Recent advances in technology and research through other life forms have allowed us to consider this vast advancement in genetic modification. Moreover, when defective genes are replaced with functional genes inevitably, there is a reduction of genetic diversity and causes the human population, as a whole, to be more susceptible to disease and virus (Patra). As shown by this, the “undesirable’ traits are annihilated and “desirable” or functional genes in this instance are promoted. Although scientists for genetic engineering will promote the “eradication of genetic disorders and diseases,” once they are diminished to the best of their ability there would still be a yearn to “perfect” the human race. Genetic engineering is when organisms are genetically modified through altering the base codes of DNA. This can be done through taking out the specific DNA strand that wants or needs to be changed and replacing that with another alike. But there are some complications to it like how do they know that the DNA they have chosen is the right one to take as well as trying to match it up correctly with the same base. When the DNA is changed, it can be from a different organism that has the traits which is wanted. Genetic engineering has many opinions towards it due to how many people wanting it done to their child or food but on the other hand of people it seems too tricky and risky to even think about having it done due to not having enough knowledge and understanding.
