Genderbread As An Example Of A Social Construction Study

Good Essays

Social Construction theory is a type of study which analyzes that different knowledge and a lot of other aspects are not real, through social agreement we ( humans ) gives them a sense of reality, e.g money, books. It explains the proceedings of jointly made understandings of world that create a plot about shared assumptions considering reality. This is the idea that is constructed by the society. These things are not worth anything if human society is absent. Humans construct everything on their own and that becomes a must part in the society, e.g white people are better than brown people, this stereotype is socially constructed. In the article Dueling Dualisms, Anne-Fausto describes a very big difference between the social expression among …show more content…

Genderbread is a piece of art ( we can say in simple words ) which is a way of learning about gender, sex, gender identities, and genderqueer, It was found by Sam Killermann. This yellow little cartoon helps in distinguishing men and women and also people who are in between these two ( neglected ones ). The people/identities who are in between male and female are known as genderqueer. I chosed this example because according to me it will describe social construction approach well. Identities who are in between male and female are not considered and treated equally, e.g in the article Dueling Dualisms, Anne-Fausto talked about an athlete who was rejected by people to play or participate in olympics just because she failed the sex test, she looked like a woman but she had no ovaries and uterus. Not only she was deserted from the team but she was not allowed to participate at all, her boyfriend left her and she was treated unequally. This example tells how society has made its own rights and wrongs and that it accepted by everyone so it becomes acceptable and true. People who are in between male and female are not considered as ‘ NORMAL’ instead considered ‘ABNORMAL’. Genderbread clarifies the fact that persons reproductive organs cannot clearly explain what their gender is. These socially constructed inequalities are not natural, this is what society made. Transgender people are ignored and mistreated. Util 1968, …show more content…

I don't think this is a useful approach as it challenges many powerful stories. Social Construction Theory destroys natural equality. Not only transgender or people who lies between male and female are affected but male, female are also affected. Male has penis is biological natural thing but males are better at mathematics than females is something that is not natural but is constructed by the society. Transgenders are not treated equally, they are not given jobs, most of them are beggars if I talk about my own homeland where I see every beggar either transgender or poor. Women are supposed to do the household activities and men are always the breadwinners, this is something that is not created naturally, society has made these false assumptions which are now accepted by almost everyone. Whenever we refer to the term ‘ secretary ‘, always female comes in our minds this is because our society has limited our minds to certain things secretaries can always be female not male even maids are also mostly women. If we hear the word Engineer's, men pops up in our head. These all stereotypes are made by the society. In my household girls are not allowed to work out of our households but boys are allowed to work. If I apply this example to my own personal life I was personally forced not to study women’s right because my parents thought I would start
