The Book of Genesis and The Ramayana represent women differently and at the same time in the same way. In the Book of Genesis, the construction and representation of genders in general is presented in a unique way but thoroughly follows ideology, one of them is: the man will lead the woman.
However, we see that when God created Adam and Eve, He created them in order. This order did not mean that Adam was supposed to be above Eve, but did not mean either that Eve was supposed to be above Adam. We can see in the first few chapters of the Book of Genesis the story explains the reasons of why Adam and Eve were thrown out from the Garden of Eden after they ate the forbidden fruit. Sadly, many countries and/or communities still have that macho way of thinking, believing that a woman only has two jobs in life, serve her family and bear children. Unfortunately, in many cases, these women are being mistreated, beaten and/or shut down. We can see examples of these situations in some countries of the Middle East.
The role of the woman in the Ramayana is slightly different. In the Ramayana, women are able to express their concerns about home, children, and men’s behavior towards women and are usually worried about their status in their family tree, what they represent in the society they live in, and what they can offer to make it better.
The role of gender is one widely expressed issue in this book. Women are mostly presented as being strong individuals who want to protect their loved ones at all cost and keep them safe and together as a family. In this book, we see that regardless of the situation occurring, desperation, fear of loss, and rage in some cases uncovered that every woman gained her balance back.
