Ruben Hinojosa is a democrat politician with a liberal ideology, he was born and educated in south Texas. To be more precise, he was born in Edcouch TX in a wealthy family owner of H&H foods, a food processing company. He graduated from the university of Austin and from UTPA with business degrees.

Austin Villegas is a senior at Chino Hills High School. During his time at CHHS he participated in many programs. Austin played football for all four years of his high school career. He was the starting right tackle for the freshmen football team that went 9-1 and won the league title. After his freshmen football season Austin was promoted to the varsity football team where he earned his varsity letter as a sophomore. Once Austin’s junior season started he worked his way into the starting lineup as the right guard. After receiving many calls from the Audubon society, the police sent a squad car to the local park. There stood 13-year-old Gary Parsons. With a BB gun in his arms and lifeless pigeons dangling from his belt loop, he was guilty. The police escorted him home and banned him from the park for shooting birds. The very next night he took revenge on the Audubon society, blowing their brand new birdhouse to pieces with a homemade cannon. No one expected Gary to become the devoted environmental activist that he grew up to be. Without Gary Parsons, the Choctawhatchee Bay watershed would not be what it is today. At 72, Gary dedicates his time and energy, striving to better the environment.

“Looking for Work”, by Gary Soto, is about a little Mexican boy who wants his family to mimic the families that he sees in reality and also the families that he sees on the television. He also wants to begin working at a very early age. He would go house-to-house on his block and ask for duties the owners if there was anything that he could do to earn some money. The little boy wanted his family to dress up wherever they went because he wanted him and his family to feel approved by the other higher-class families. The author describes there family as a middle-class family, but apparently the little boy was watched too much television and wants his family to improve their living habits.

Gary Soto is an author of many novels, short stories, and poetry. He was born and raised in the U.S. by his Mexican American family. In his writings, he creates characters and settings influenced or surrounded by cultures and ideas similar to those he grew up and lived with. He includes common characteristics of the Mexican American people that he became familiar with growing up.

Throughout the autobiographical narrative written by Gary Soto, many different literary elements are used to recreate the experience of his guilty six-year old self. Different elements such as contrast, repetition, pacing, diction, and imagery. Soto narrates this story as a young boy at a time when he seems to be young and foolish, Soto foolmaking mistakes, but at the same time hoping to learn from them. Soto uses each of these devices to convey different occurrences in the narrative.

In “One Last Time,” Gary Soto talks about how he grew up in an immigrant family, and to make money had to work the fields. He talks about how the menial jobs made him feel and what he thought of them. I may not be able to relate to the immigrant laborer part of the story. I understand what it’s like to come from very little but still think that some things are not worth doing just to get something if it will make you feel like less than you are. Soto goes into great detail about his time picking grapes and cotton, but he doesn’t really go into as much detail about why he feels the way he does.
