Have you ever done something in the past that only impacted you n in the future? The book “Orbiting Jupiter” by Gary Schmidt delivers the shattering story of Joseph, a father at thirteen, who has never seen his daughter Jupiter. After spending time in a juvenile facility, he's placed with a foster family on a farm in rural Maine. This is due to Joseph attacking and almost killing a teacher. When he was interrogated, he claimed that he was drugged, and his mind flew somewhere else at the time and he wasn’t in control of his actions. Although this was confirmed, he was still sent to a juvenile facility due to safety concerns. When the facility released him, he was sent to a foster home because of the abuse he suffered from his dad. Not only did the foster family look after him, they taught him family values and played a huge role in Josephs recovery. Throughout the story, the characters in Orbiting Jupiter …show more content…
When Joseph was thirteen, he made a decision to fall in love in order to distract his mind from the abuse he was suffering at home. The text states “ “.(Shmidt). Everyday, Joseph would walk seven miles to see his loved one and when they eventually had a child, his dedication sky rocketed. This impacted his life greatly because when Madison died during labor, he became depressed, and he wasn't even able to see his daughter because he was underage. Joseph felt so low, that he even accepted drugs from another's student in his school, and this made him insane enough to strangle a teacher. He then was sent to prison, and eventually ended up in a foster home. This all wouldn’t have happened if Joseph was smart enough to stay out of a serious relationship at such a young age. This section of the book informs the reader that your decisions can greatly impact your life. Once again, Joseph’s decision to enter a serious relationship impacted his life, and in this case the impact was
He appreciated everything Jack’s family had done for him, especially Jack himself. Despite struggles throughout his journey, for example, “That’s why it felt like a nightmare when Joseph, maybe three steps away from the bank, fell through the ice of the Alliance River.” (GS38) As Joseph did go through these problems every once in a while, Jack had some what changed Joseph. During a fight broke out in the gym locker room, Joseph was being ganged up on.
At the beginning of Joe and Janie’s relationship, she was very much in love with him. When they started their endeavor to the new town, she was very proud of the man she was looking at. He moved to a new town to start his own business and buy his own land. However, as time progressed, the town began to feel lonely to Janie. She never saw Joe anymore, and when she did, he was trying to control her every move. He became very possessive and mean to her. He wanted her to submit to him, and he wouldn’t stop until he had it. The once loving relationship they had, has now become detached.
Joseph’s father hadn’t been okay with himself since the concentration camps. His father was in a really bad place and was not the father that Josef knew and loved. Josef’s father called
From what we are told, we can obviously tell that Joseph has a very difficult life as it is, “What can a crippled, speechless boy do, asked Joseph…” Nolan is telling us that Joseph thinks of himself in a negative manner. But while he may look in himself in a negative way, he is still optimistic, explaining
Just this sentence shows how much Joseph has developed and matured as a person throughout the novel. It asserts that even if Tom were to act as if he didn’t exist and hide in his room all day Joseph would still want him to come out, because he believes that he is a wonderful person who is wasted hiding away like that.
The story of Joseph in the Bible begins with explanations of Joseph’s youth and innocence and how his brothers were jealous of him because he was the “blessed son”. It involves a lot of specifics, like it mentions that Joseph was seventeen years
“What you are afraid to do is a clear indication of the next thing you need to do.” (-Ralph Waldo Emerson). My parent´s divorce has shaped and influenced my whole life, with a lot of side effects. I fell into a state of depression. I learned not to dwell on the bad things in life. I found a person within myself that I could live with for a while, a kid that I could be proud of, someone I wouldn’t hate. Over the years, I’ve changed, little changes, big changes, it’s all happened, and I am who I am today because of it. Not all crummy circumstances stay awful, even though it may feel like it. I can’t tell if I’ve changed for the better or the worse, but everything starts with something, one thing. My parent´s divorce shaped me into who I am today, whether the changes were good or bad, little or big, this has changed me.
Jupiter Research Jupiter is the fifth and largest planet in our solar system. This gas giant has a thick atmosphere, 17 moons, and a dark, barely-visible ring. Its most prominent features are bands across its latitudes and a great red spot, (which is a storm). Jupiter is composed mostly of gas.
It did not take long before I realized how lucky I was for the situation that I had grown up in, to see how I could use it to shape my future into one that went against every negative thought people had, or every negative comment people made towards my future. The past was the key to my future. I spent years in foster care, and years being treated like just another case by social workers, never feeling like they really cared or understood me. That is what needed to be changed, and that is what I was going to do, become a social worker, and revolutionize the way foster kids, abused, or neglected children were treated. No kid should feel like they are just another case to be handled, they are brilliant individuals who are waiting for someone to show them how to not only escape the past, but how to achieve their own dreams. I promised myself that I would never give up on that dream of helping those children in need. It was in the past that I found my courage to return to school, to prepare myself for a worth wild
There are thousands of stories in the Bible, but one stands out in particular; the story of Joseph. The Hebrew meaning of the name Joseph is “may Jehovah add, give increase.”1 Through the life of Joseph we see God add meaning and purpose to his life, just as God adds meaning and purpose to all our lives. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”2 Joseph obediently followed God’s plans through trials and tribulations whereas many other figures in the Old Testament faltered in their faith. Joseph, son of Jacob, is the single most important human being in the Old Testament because of his impeccable faith to the one true God and his story of forgiveness that set the stage for God’s chosen people.
The asteroid belt is located between Mars and Jupiter’s orbit. Asteroid belt also contain meteorites mostly made up of rock and metal. The difference between the Kuiper belt is that if Jupiter’s was not present and without the orbital resonances from the planet, the asteroid belt might have formed to another rocky planet. The Kuiper belt which is located beyond Neptune and Pluto contain Icy rocks or comets. Some icy rocks are slightly smaller than terrestrial planets in our solar system and some are so large than our asteroids in our asteroid belt. The Kuiper belt also consist of dwarf planets such as Pluto, Eris and Sedna while the asteroid belt contains no dwarf planets.
Johnny’s internal issues are as equally grievous as his external issues. He practically raised his siblings since he was six years old, and started to work in factories when he was seven. Due to his early start transferring to adulthood, he never really had the chance to experience a jovial and enjoyable childhood. Johnny “had been robbed of a large part of that playtime by being compelled to take care of [his siblings] … he had fallen the part of little mother and father as well” (8). Johnny does not have any pleasurable memories to look back on and confirm that his upbringing readied him to steadily transition to adulthood. His mother is not a major help in his life, consequently making him uphold both roles of provider and supporter when it comes to his family. With no time for himself, it was evident in Johnny’s face that “there was no joyousness in him…
"Never forget the past…because it may haunt you forever. Regret all the bad things…cherish the good things. Look ahead always…but don't let the bad things from the past get in your mind." As a young child, there were so many incidents in my life that made me become the person I am today. There were rough times as well as good times. If I were to tell you all of them, I would remember half of them. I think some of my incidents really had some impact, and some were just simple ways of life. To tell you the truth, the incident that had the most impact on me has to be when my real father left me at the age of three. I never knew my father. I mean being a baby, you really have no experience or recognition of somebody else.
Jove, Jowisz, the gas planet, the stormy planet, whatever you call it, these are all names for the biggest planet in our solar system, the fifth planet from the sun, Jupiter. The Romans named this planet after their god of the sky and thunder. This planet has 318 times as much mass as the earth, and its diameter is 11 times the earth’s diameter. Since this planet is the fastest spinning (rotates in less than 10 hours), it is flattened at the poles and it is bulged at its equator. One Jovian year (the time it takes to orbit the sun), take 11.9 earth years!
Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and by far the largest mass object in the solar system of all the other planets. Jupiter is twice the size of all the other planets combined. It is as 318 times the sizes of earth. The distance that Jupiter orbits the sun is 778,330,000 km (Gallant pp154). The diameter is 142,984 km and the mass that it has is 1.900e27 kg. Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the sky after the Sun, the Moon and Venus. Mars is some times brighter. Galileo discovered Jupiter in 1610(Gallant); another interesting fact is that Jupiter has 4 large moons. Which are known as the Galilean moons. They were named Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. The first mission that went to Jupiter was Pioneer 10 in 1973 and later
