People need to make their own choices in life. Aleeza Kazmi, From Through My Eyes, and Rabbit Proof Fence are all key pieces of evidence that show it's important for people to make their own choices in life. Here are some reasons why people need to make their own choices in life. It is important to make your own choices. In "From Through My Eyes," Ruby Bridges and her family make a big choice on whether or not to go to the all-white school. She knew she would be the only black girl at the school, but she still chose to go to the school. Ruby going to the school had many advantages such as they would get a better education and get more opportunities as adults. The school was also closer to Ruby s home. Her family and Ruby knew the people there were not going to agree with her coming. For example, paragraphs 21-22 talk about Ruby's first day at school and they explain that there were 4 U.S. Marine guards for Ruby to protect her. The school also put up barricades for the people to calm down, but those didn't work. Throughout all of this, Ruby stayed at the school because she knew this would make her smarter and help make her an overall better person in life. Another piece of evidence is from Rabbit Proof Fence. Again, people …show more content…
Here they are talking about large quantities of soda getting banned. Although it is bad for you and people shouldn't be drinking a lot, people should be able to make their own choices in life. If they wanna drink soda and risk getting diabetes and more, it is their fault. It shouldn't have to come to the government banning soda. Another reason if the government bans soda, then soda places like gas stations and other stores are going to also be losing lots of money and potentially run out of business. It would not be a good idea to ban soda and ban anything in general. People should have freedom and if they want to make bad choices then they can make bad
First, ruby was ostracized, or isolated, by white people including teachers and administrators. Ruby had to sit in a classroom all alone since the white parents did not want their students in a class with her. She was also left to eat alone at lunch because the other students would not eat with her. Also the kids in the neighborhood stopped playing with
The white mob eventually went back to their own lives instead of criticizing a little girl. Some parents even allowed their children to attend William Frantz the following year! Ruby stayed at William Frantz and graduated from grade school. “But when I went back to school in September, everything was different. There were no marshals, no protestors. There were other kids - even some other black students...It was almost as if that first year of school integration had never happened. No one talked about it. Everyone seemed to have put that difficult time behind them.” (Ruby
After the school was forced to integrate, Ruby started to not eat dinner, and only eat foods that were packaged and drink cokes because the protesters outside the school told her that she would be poisoned and killed. Ruby and her father would go into a local market to buy groceries, but soon after she started going to school the owners quit selling to them because she was believed to be bad for business. Bridges showed extreme courage when the protesters yelled at her, she remained calm and continued on her path. Therefore, after the consistent imperilment, Ruby remained strong after being threatened multiple
All these fears and threats were all stuck in Ruby's head. She could not forget them because she had to hear them everyday before walking into the school. These fears of Ruby's made her actions poor. She started hanging her dolls just like one of the white women said. All the cursing was locked into Ruby's head and she began ushering the derogatory terms in her brother and sisters.
The protesters threatened to poison her food, and kill her; which caused Ruby to only want to eat packaged food and no home cooked meals. Another protester even had a coffin with a Ruby doll in it, hoping to scare Ruby into dropping out of the all white school. Ruby’s vice principal (vp) even hired a new teacher just for her, because the VP did not want her associating with the white children. When a preacher wanted to let his white daughter go back to school, the protesters called him a traitor and began terrorizing him as well. Not only did the vice principal enjoy tormenting Ruby, she enjoyed isolating ruby from the other students as
Do you think soda is such a bad thing for us humans that it has to be banned? Soda does affect human lungs and their bodies, which is why some people don’t drink soda. In the articles “Three Cheers for the Nanny State”, “Ban the Ban”, and “soda’s a problem but Bloomberg doesn’t have the solution” the author’s do not agree with the soda ban situation. The government should not regulate personal choices like what was done with the New York City’s soda ban because, this option should be made by the people, it’s their freedom to make their own decisions, and they have the right to make their own choices. In the text “Three Cheers for the Nanny State” by Sarah Conly, the author gives information about how soda shouldn’t be banned.
The Supreme Court stated that segregation was against the law, but they didn't want black children to go to the same school white children. (source #4) Ruby didn't start school until November, but when her first day of school came U.S. federal marshals escorted her to school. (source #4) The crowds outside the school greeted her by throwing things, yelling and threatening her.
People think that the Soda ban would be a good thing but it isn't. Ban the Ban by Sidney Anne Stone and Soda’s a problem but… by Karin Klein are both opinion pieces, on why the soda ban is not worth it.t is not a good idea to limit the amount of soda a person can buy Americans have freedom of choice and they should make the decision of how much soda they drink. On page 287 of Ban the Ban, paragraph 2 it states, “ when you take away the option to order a soda over a certain size you have now removed mu options. I no longer have a choice this is not what this country is about” We shouldn't allow the government to make choices for us. If someone chooses the right to have a sugary drink, it's their choice and their right.
In the article Should Candy and Soda be Banned from Schools the writer of this article shows the both sides of whether candy and soda should be banned from schools or not.I agree with the writer that candy and soda should be banned from schools because it is our first step in stopping obesity in our nation. The reason in why I agree with the writer is because that our generation is known to be overweight or even obese, but if we can switch out the unhealthy food and bring in healthier food we can stop obesity before it even happens.
The New York Soda Ban is unfair, disliked, and useless, and if the government doesn’t revoke it, it denies people the right to make a choice. The soda ban “doesn’t apply to diet sodas, fruit juices, dairy-based drinks, or alcoholic beverages; it wouldn’t extend to beverages sold in grocery or convenience stores. "(New York Times, Debate Club)Also exempted are "vending machines or newsstands that serve only a smattering of fresh food items."
To begin with, these sugar regulations would need to set a limited on the amount of sugar allowed in these products. Otherwise, people will continue to consume more and more sugar. Right now, it is a fact that “Each 12-ounce serving of soda a person consumes each day raised type 2 diabetes risk by 10 to 15 percent, and many Americans are consuming
To begin, the soda ban is an extraordinary idea because it makes our society not suffer from as many health issues. According to the
She experienced discrimination in many ways. When Ruby would go to school she would have Marshals take her inside and stay with her all day. Outside of the school would be protestors saying hateful and terrible words to Ruby. Many of the families pulled their children out of school because they did not want to risk their child's protection “Even if the parents believed in integration, they didn’t want to put their children in danger by sending them to class” (26, Bridges). Society was taught to shun African Americans but not everyone believed that. While some families refused to send their child to school others didn’t. For example The Gabrielle's were a brave family who sent their six year old, Yolanda, to the same school as Ruby. The Gabrielle's “refused to be bullied by the protesters” (28, Bridges). Society has taught to shun African Americans but families like the Gabrielle's don't care what society has taught. They were brave and courageous to stand up against society and send their child to an integrated school even though many parents wouldn't
Americans have always stived to be the best in all they do. This is shown through architexture. If you are looking for views, The Gateway Arch and the Sears Tower are where you can get views from incredible heights. Yet as tall as these structures are ,if they were laid sideways would not even be close to as long as the Verranzo-Narrows Bridge , the longest bridge in the United States. These structures prove that with God's help man can accomplish incredible
Transition Statement: While some think that the sugary drink ban is the best option, others think it isn’t a viable option. I will now discuss some opposing views concerning the ban. Most opposition to a ban revolves around the idea that it may not be the best solution to a problem. Many people argue that the legislation is flawed and will not have a large or effective impact.
