The television series Friends follows the professional as well as personal life of six 20-30 year olds airing of NBC written by David Crane, Marta Kauffman, Andrew Reich, Alexa Junge, Jeff Strauss, and Jeff Greenstein. The group of friends go by the names Rachel Green, Ross Geller, Monica Geller, Joey Tribbiani, Chandler Bing and Phoebe Buffay who are all in their twenties. They live together in the heart of New York, Manhattan. Throughout the show over the course of ten years we follow the groups family trouble, past and future romances, fights, laughs, tears and surprises as they learn and experience what it means to be a friend. The show Friends is a great example of social organization and groups. A social group is a group that consist of two or more people who interact with one another and share a common identity. Groups are broken down into two categories. A Primary group which is fairly small, and include individuals who engage face to face, long term emotional ways. Sex refers to the biological distinction between males and females; by contrast, gender concerns the social differences between males and females. In episode 15 Joey uses pickup lines to try to attract girls to him which is an example of sex. Also in season 2 episode 4 Rachel rented a movie for the girls to watch, however Ross does not understand why he is not allowed to join them for movie night. There reasoning behind it was he was a male figure which is an example of gender. Furthermore, the male leads had arguably more respected and higher paying jobs than the female roles. Ross was a paleontologist and university professor. Chandler worked as an executive in a large multinational corporation.
