Even the little mistakes someone makes can affect the whole situation. Friar John is a good friend of Friar Lawrence, but he did not accomplish getting the letter to Mantua. Friar john is to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death because of his failure of delivering the letter, he didn’t bring the crow bar in time, and instead of going straight to Mantua he went to find a friend to go with him. He did not bring thee letter to Romeo in time. He didn’t deliver it because he was stuck in another town. There was a plague in the area and he was quarantined with many others, “Where the infectious pestilence did reign, sealed up the doors, and would not let us forth.” (5.3.10-11). This quote lets us know that he wasn’t able to get out of a town he wasn’t
Friar John just returned to Verona from which he was supposed to be giving Romeo a letter. This situation is related to need, which is the lack of something. First, when he returns Friar Lawrence asks him what Romeo had said, or if he wrote a letter. However, Friar John lacked to give Romeo the letter because of a suspected plague. Secondly, Friar Lawrence got very upset because Romeo didn’t receive the letter. He is mainly upset because it was the letter which had instructions to a very serious situation. They then leave to go to Friar Lawrence’s cell to wake up Juliet.
The blame lies with Friar Lawrence because he makes faulty plans, he is irresponsible, and he does secretly things especially the plan with Romeo and Juliet.
Another mistake Friar Laurence made was trusting Friar John to send the letter to Romeo, and not even telling Friar John that the letter explained the situation of Juliet’s “death”. He is very careless, because he only tells Friar John how
In the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet Friar Lawrence acts as a spiritual advisor and a confidant to Romeo since the early scenes of the play. Romeo can confide in him, because the Friar always listens, and provides advice. The Friar is available to Romeo in regards to Rosaline, and all other times from Romeo’s youth when he has needed guidance. However, later in the play, Friar Lawrence can also be seen as having another purpose; to aid Romeo with the difficulty of marriage with Juliet. Since he now has the task of keeping the marriage a secret while fulfilling the position of a truthful and trustworthy friar, he is seen as a dynamic character, having more than one purpose.
Each character in the play,Romeo and Juliet, does certain things based on what they think and how they feel. Most of the other characters’ actions are based off of love, hate, and wealth. As for Friar Laurence, he has different motivations compared to the other characters. He stands up for peace in Verona between the two rich rival families, the Montagues and the Capulets. Everything he does is mostly centered on creating peace.
Throughout the entire play, Friar Laurence helps keep Romeo and Juliet together and their relationship a secret, encouraging their unrealistic hopes, and therefore is to blame for their deaths. Friar Laurence knows both families well, and their hate for each other, yet he misleads Romeo and Juliet to believe that their love can end their family's rivalry.
Throughout The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet Friar Lawrence, the mediator of the play, assists Romeo and Juliet through their many problems. Many people see the Friar as a spiritual guardian or mentor for this young couple. Friar Lawrence marries the two and attempts to mend their problems. For example, he attempts to mend Romeo and Juliet’s marriage when Prince Escalus banishes Romeo and when Lord and Lady Capulet try to force Juliet to marry Paris. When this spiritual guardian marries the young couple without their parents’ consent he knowingly oversteps his ecclesiastical duties. It is for these reasons, such as marrying Romeo and Juliet and trying to fix their problems, why Friar Lawrence is the man who causes this tragedy. In William Shakespeare’s
Friar Lawrence never checked if Friar John deliver the letter explaining Juliet's fake death until it was too late. Friar John didn’t know how important the letter is “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood,/The letter was not nice but full of charge” (IV. ii. 18-19). Romeo never got the letter Friar Lawrence was supposed to send.
Playwright, William Shakespeare in his play, Romeo and Juliet, suggest Friar Laurence was responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet. He develops his claim by first utilizing a logical appeal propounding Friar Laurence was the person who formulated the plan, then using a logical appeal revealing Friar Laurence failed to admonish Romeo about the arrangement, and finally employing an emotional appeal expounding Friar Laurence admittedly could have influenced the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, however he could also be uninvolved, considering he was constantly trying help Romeo and Juliet, displaying his intentions were always good. Shakespeare’s purpose is to entertain and show the actions people are willing to do for love in order to convey the
Friar Lawrence made a plan, but still managed to fail the most important aspect, sending a message to Romeo informing him of the plan. When Juliet had taken the potion Friar Lawrence was supposed to send a message to Romeo explaining what his plan was to bring the two together. Friar Lawrence sent Friar John to send the letter. On Friar John’s journey a plague broke out and in fear of catching disease he was not able to deliver the message to Romeo.
If the Friar John would have been able to get the letter to Romeo from Juliet then they might have been able to live happily ever after. But Juliet wanted to take a mixture of stuff to make her sleep threw the marriage of her and Paris but they didn't know she was married to Romeo. So she took the mixture and wrote a letter that the Friar John should have gave to Romeo to pick up Juliet when she wakes up. But instead Romeo goes and gets some poison to commit suicide with Juliet but he is just minutes away from Juliet waking up. Then Juliet wakes up and sees him dead then kisses Romeo for some poison left on his lips. This all could have worked out as planned if Friar John could have got the letter to Romeo.
The first major mistake Friar Lawrence made was not delivering the letter of his and Juliet’s scheme personally to Romeo. The matter of someone faking their is information that should be delivered personally. Instead Friar Lawrence trusted Friar John to deliver the letter, which he fails at doing. Friar Lawrence also never told Friar John the urgency of the letter until he returned. When Friar John talks about his failed delivery Friar
(5.3.35-36). By now in the play Romeo had purchased poison that he would use to end his life, he warns Balthasar to stay away from him while he visits Juliet’s corpse and says goodbye. He is acting very irrational because he is extremely upset and the Friar didn’t get the news to him in time so he is at fault. The reader can understand that Friar Lawrence is under an immense amount of stress but also that he should’ve done more and everything in his power to get that news to Romeo. The final mistake of the letter that led to the deaths of the teenagers was the biggest mistake made by Friar
This letter is no ordinary letter, it contains very important information on the plan the plan set up by Friar Laurence. Romeo being as impulsive as he is, goes to look for his fair lady when he is notified that she is “dead” by a gentleman named Balthasar. He goes to her tomb and in his point of view he proves that his lady “dead,” which she is not. Friar Laurence is also on his way to keep Juliet company, meanwhile Romeo gets the letter. Romeo gets there before Friar Laurence and kills himself for not being able to live with Juliet. Friar arrives and sees Romeo dead and Juliet there with him. Juliet wakes up shocked by the situation, and immediately Friar knows there is trouble his way so he suggests Juliet to escape with him. This can be found when Friar
Friar Lawrence is the person who caused the death of Juliet and Romeo. Friar Lawrence was the one to set up everything. He made a plan for Juliet and Romeo to be together but it didn’t go so well. Friar Lawrence sent a letter to Romeo and Romeo didn’t receive the letter. Which then made Romeo go crazy and go to Juliet. He killed himself because he thought that Juliet died but she didn’t it was all a plan. And that’s when Romeo killed himself when he saw her. And after he killed himself she woke up and saw him dead next to her and she killed herself. All this would've not happened if Friar Lawrence did not come up with a plan.
