Hello, Vicente. I agree with your point of view, French colonist managed better than English their relationship with local tribes. Mutual agreements and economical benefits with fur trade and military alliances. One of the remarks on the History of US book reflects the real interest of French people on know Indian customs, the book states “they (French) even send men to live with the Indians to study their culture to build better relations”. I can imagine the building of trust between the two parts, with respect for each one culture. If that approach were kipped for longer, without confrontation, probably the end result would be a more cultural reach today America. By contrast, English colonist failed to respect and understand Indian culture;
There are many reasons Native Americans and European Colonists did not have a good relationship. The reason for conflict between Colonist and Indians was due to the Colonists insatiable greed for power and land. Some of the reasons not only included physical mistreatment but also an ethical mistreatment of the Native Americans. European Colonists not only brought with them many different diseases that would later aid in the genocide of many Native American tribes, but also a mindset in which they felt superior to there Native neighbors. This feeling of superiority led to an outbreak of violence and many different civil wars. Due to the Native American and the Colonists irreconcilable
If I was an American Colonist I would be very frustrated. The colonist were mad because the king was taxing them, and had no control over them because they were in a different continent, also the colonist got tired of taxes and they threw their tea into the ocean. Were the Americans justified in declaring their independence from Britain? They were justified to break away because they were treated very badly, being taxed on everything, and the British were killing the colonist.
Some of the economic similarities and differences between the Spanish colonies in the Americas and the French Colonies are the fact that the Spanish were into farming and trade, the French economy consisted of fur trade. The similarities of the two were the land acquired and the large amounts of land, each used for farming. These similarities and differences were very important and key to the rise of the colonies and their economies as well as important factors for the history to be made afterwards.
In the late 1700s both America and France underwent revolution. The causes of which are both similar and different. The causes of the American Revolution and the French Revolution are similar because they both regard taxation and unchecked power, however, they are different in the type of unrest that began their revolution.
They first came into contact with the Huron Indians in 1608 near St. Lawrence river. and they ended up becoming allies because of their common interest. The Huron's welcomed the French by presenting them with gifts like fur and teaching them ways of survival in the land. So the French welcomed that friendly behavior rather than taking everything they have and burning them down like the Spanish. These are just two European kingdoms that encountered Indians through the exploration of the new world. There is also the Dutch and English that also had really bad experiences against the Indians. I decided to compare two kingdoms that had two complete opposite encounters with the Indians. Do you agree with my two point of views with the French and Spanish? If not let me know so we can have a great friendly debate over the
Firstly, there are numerous Examples of European interactions with American Indians. From the beginning Indians focused on Trade as a major role in receiving and selling goods. For example, the Indians traded much with European explorers and colonists. Many Native hunters demanded deer hides that Indians were very skilled at making. Indians demanded thing such as iron tools, copper pots and glass beads. As a result of trade many French people developed
The Indians had been placed in the native population centers in Mexico and Peru also making them the focal points of the colonizing efforts. The French decided to approach the Indians in a gentler way and work them to obtain what they were working towards. It is palpable that both the French and the Spanish had very similar plans, but decided to pursue their motives
The British emphasis on farming and owning land often put them in competition with the American Indians. Since the french relied so heavily on trade they viewed the american indians as allies.
For what we now know, the French and Indian war had impacted the relationship between the British and the Indians by the degradation through time change of betrayal amongst them. In the beginning, everything consist of loyalty, partnership, and alliances; turning this friendship into war, power, and hatred. It all started with the British giving supplies to the Indians as to the natives being already defeated by the French, looking to conquer. Later, creating a downfall in their relationship between the Indians and the British. The rising of disloyalty begins to appear (after the French and Indian war) through the commands of the Indians wanting to join alliances with the French to seek British destruction. Now let us take a step back through the beginnings of the British and Indians alliance. The initiation of this association was the thankful message from the Mohawk Indians accepting the weapons that the British gave them, using against the French.
As a small island country with a strong sense of superiority to natives, Britain focused more on establishing permanent settlements for its booming population rather than religious conversion of natives or diplomacy in its colonization of the New World. This bled into the American ideals of western expansion and disregard for those who stand in their way.
If anyone deserved to share the New World with the Native Americans it would be the French. The English, the Spanish and the Dutch all mistreated the natives, but the French showed true respect for them. The beginning of the French’s attempts to settle in the New World were rocky and took time to create a great relationship with the Native Americans. What created such a strong relationship between the French and the Native Americans was the interest to trade. The relationship was so strong that it led to trading, inter-relationships between the French and Indians and even led to them being allies in many wars.
Second, the French have better battle tactics when they are at war. When the English were fighting they seemed clueless. The French have better alliances with other Indian tribes which will give us the advantage. The English are making the mistake by trying to drive Indians out of our lands.
Closely followed by Columbus’ “discovery” of the New World in 1492 were the establishments of European colonies with the French primarily in the north and down the Mississippi, and with the British along the east coast. As a result, the Native Americans’ lives changed drastically. Before 1750, in terms of economically, French responded mutually in terms of economy, culturally befriended them and in terms of religion, responded benignly by encouraging Catholicism through missionaries and on were on the best terms with the Natives; the British by contrast, economically
Instead of setting up forts and friendly trading like the French the British bombarded the Indians with disease, war and unfriendly trading. The colonist that were coming over had a 50% chance of living opposed to a very low chance when the British first began coming to “New America”. The British outnumbered the French 20 to 1. This war was the first global conflict that took place in Europe and North America. All of these events, the fighting, disease, trading were all huge turning points for both the British and the French. They were at a turning point because no longer did they want to live under a British rule when they had the land
I agree with the stamen. According to US a narrative History, French colonist saw natives as equal, respecting their way of live, and even blending some colonist with them in order to learn their languages and customs. This friendly approach make easier for the French to establish their religious mission among Indian towns. Later they pay better rates for their furs to Indians converted to Christianity. This alliances benefit them both, even natives helped French colonist to content Spanish an English territorial expansion. French colonist approach to native people benefit them with guidance trough the territory, a valuable asset for commerce and military strategies.
