British empire was in control of Canada, “a deep and complex transformation.” (Calloway, 112) British empire envision North America with field of action while the French spent the next two decade revenging on their loss with the Seven Years’ War and Treaty of Paris. Even though the French did not succeed in North America, eventually they migrated towards large swaths of Canada, The Great Lakes, and Mississippi Valley using their social systems and culture to survive. “The Interior French”, (Calloway, 123) were French-Canadian who lived beyond the Great Lakes country. French Canadians have been coming to the United States since the early 1500’s. They’ve come for freedom, enjoyment and some have even been forced to come by higher powers. In this essay I mostly focus on the late 1600’s through the mid 1700’s. Throughout the late 1600’s and the 1700’s thousands of French Canadians were forced and willingly came to the United States. My first reason is about 6,500 French Canadians who were forced to come to America for refusing to take an oath to the King of England.
The Montreal Canadiens are currently the sole French Canadian team in the National Hockey League, nicknamed the Habs in reference to les habitants, the settlers of New France in the 1600s. Because the team appeals largely to French-Canadian fans, the Canadiens are significant to French-Canadian and Quebecois identities, and Maurice Richard played a critical role to French Canadians in the province:
Some Canadians think that our history with everyone, including the French was all peaceful and perfect. It must have been all “rainbows and butterflies” and life could not have been bad. Although the French is fine with the English now, back in the period of 1914 to 2000, relations were strained. It was as if the French wanted to fight against the English for what the French wanted. French-English relations in Canada over the past century were controversial over conscription, the October Crisis, and the 1992 and 1995 Referendum.
Second there is English Canadians who are the descendants of English, Welsh, Scottish, and Irish settlers, soldiers and immigrants who came to Canada from the 17th to the 20th century. Generations of these pioneers helped to bring British political institutions and traditions to Canada” ("The government of Canada," n.d., para. 1). However there is a ton of diversity and different religions that has expanded across their region. In the last 200 years many travelled and arrived there (The government of Canada," n.d.).
The Miller's Tale" is the story of a carpenter, his lovely wife, and the two clerks (students) who are eager to get her into bed. The carpenter, John, lives in Oxford with his much younger wife, Alisoun, who is something of a local beauty. To make a bit of extra money, John rents out a room in his house to a poor but clever scholar named Nicholas, who has taken a liking to Alisoun. Another scholar in the town, Absolon the parish clerk, also has his eye on Alisoun.
Many ethnic groups live and work in peace as proud Canadians. In Canadian home non-official languages are widely spoken. In two of Canada’s biggest cities, Chinese languages are the second most spoken language at home. Canadian has a wide range of religion, the majority of Canadians identify as Christians. The largest religious affiliation is Catholic, followed by various Protestant churches. Other religions are slowly growing.
Canada was set up to be a bi-lingual country for both English and French to be equally represented in the government. However, the number of French speakers began to disappear in the country. “In Quebec, 7.7% of the population reported English only as mother tongue, 78.1% reported French only, and 12.3% reported only a non-official language, in 2011. In comparison, the national percentages were 56.9% for English only, 21.3% for French only and 19.8% for non-official languages only” (Canada). While the providence is not officially bilingual, it is apparent that francophones are dominant in Quebec and Anglophones are more common in the rest of Canada. Before traveling, one should be sure to make note of the prominent language within that city to be
Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver are some of the other cities in Canada. Canada is also hoe to a diverse group of people. There are North American Indians, Asians, Chinese and European groups in Canada.
Quebec has 24 percent of the total population of Canada, and 25 percent of its Gross National Product. The majority of Quebec’s population is of French descent and language. It reaches approximately 83 percent of the entire province. About 60 percent of the French voted for secession in the 1995 referendum, at a remarkably high turn out, 94 percent of the total electorate.
Example: French Canadians all share a common language, heritage, and culture. They can trace their ancestries back to the French colonists who settled on Canadian soil. Most of Canada’s French Canadian population are now residing in the Province of Quebec. Identifying as French Canadian is the collective identity that all these people share.
First, the cultural needs of French Canadian citizens were recognized and worked towards in an effort to sustain their culture. Canada included the language aspect of French Canadian culture
The differences between Edgar and Nelly's views of Catherine are that Nelly's views are negative meanwhile Edgar's are positive. Nelly thought of Catherine as a brat, she always wanted things her way regardless of what it was. She was very used to the emotional and dramatic fits Catherine threw in order to get her way all the time. Nelly thought of her as spoiled and inconsiderate of others.
