Martin Luther King Jr.’s said a quote “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor, it must be demanded by the Oppressed”, tells us that Freedom is never given to anyone if is not demanded, as humans we would never be free from anyone trying to take our rights away if we don't speak out and demand our rights, history has show us that freedom is not free we have to earn it and fight for it, many countries are oppressed by their governments, because they have never demanded or fight for their freedoms. The staple of societal thought, freedom, is the power to act, speak, or think as one wants without the concern of being oppressed (Webster). Freedom, is a unique element to the mixture of liberty across the United States. Martin Luther King Jr’s a “letter of Birmingham Jail,” and Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence both advocate the claim for freedom. Both of these historical figures make this apparent by arguing for the protest against tradition, a change across unjust laws, although they differ between the kinds of change to be enforced.
Freedom is a human right. When deprived of human rights, life has less meaning. People risk everything to be free. Across history, an incredible number of people have been deprived of freedom. Most of those people have risked something to get it back, and sometimes that thing is their life.
We have the right to not feel confined, but permitted to act freely. My Grandfather, who lived in Guatemala, was shot, by guerrilla terrorists, because of his political beliefs and defending his homestead. Today, we the people, have the right to speak freely, express our most intimate thoughts on political or even sexual preferences without being shot or even having the fear of being shot. But they always need someone to lead them, a leader, and that was how people were able to stand up and fight for what is right. Citizens should not be afraid to fight for themselves. True freedom is only possible when citizens are free to fight for their rights and equality.
William E. Gladstone states” Justice delayed is justice denied.” Meaning when justice is not served in a timely manner, it means you receive any justice at all. In the” I have dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. he talks about the injustice people of color were receiving in the 1940s-60s. “Cairo: My city or Revolution” by Ahdaf Soueif tells of a family who lives under the rule of a dictator. And the story “Lolita in Tehran” by Azar Nafisi and talks about a woman in Tehran being discriminated against because of her gender. All of these texts give us instances where people were being denied freedom. I believe that freedom should be demanded rather than being given.

Because of the Civil Rights Movement and because of the person who created it, we have rights that give us our freedom, and property. Freedom should be demanded because freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demand by the oppressor, quoted by Martin Luther King Jr. The Emancipation Proclamation stated that Africans Americans are free but we were “never” free. Also, The March on Washington was an important event that had made a change in our lives and our freedom. The Declaration of Independence was a statement that announced that the thirteen colonies are not under British rules. In my opinion, we should not have to fight for our freedom and we should all be equal.
Freedom should be demanded, because not everyone listens when you ask for something, if anything people would laugh at these people who want freedom and not take them seriously when they do ask for freedom. If people take a stand and demand what they really want and show they want it and fight for it there would be people standing up with that one person too, then there would be an uprising on how people need freedom and demand it even more. A great example would be the the day Martin Luther King Jr. took a stand and said his word on how there needs to be freedom and how it must be demanded in order for us to get it, the day the pastor took a stand and demanded freedom for his people (blacks) and as he kept saying his word and talking about freedom for the blacks more and more people agreed with him and took a stand. Oppression is the foundation of revolution. Injustice fuels revolutionary fervor in the oppressed. In the eyes of the colonists, the British oppressed the colonists. In the late Eighteenth Century, increased taxation and restrictions imposed by the British were intolerable actions. Many colonists saw these actions as unjust and oppressive. Increased political restrictions and economic exploitations resulted in increased revolutionary fervor. The oppression of the colonists during Britain’s seemingly tyrannical reign led to the American Revolution. Colonists were outraged by Britain’s disregard of the British Constitution displayed by taxes and restrictions. . Economic acts implemented by the British resulted in other complaints regarding the circumstances under which the acts were implemented. In other words, the American Revolution was comparatively not about money. Although America’s problems with Britain were seemingly economic, colonists cared more about political power and independence than taxation itself. Grievances expressed by colonists mostly reflected the a lack of representation, the minimization of colonial self-government, and the deprivation of rights. Consequently, the American Revolution was caused by British economic and political policies that led to unfavorable colonial opinions of the 18th Century British government.
In chapter 1, Freire stresses the concept of humanization and dehumanization. Mankind has qualities that make us human beings as understanding, freedom and integrity. Freire emphasized that not only do people need to demonstrate the qualities to others, but for yourself. He mentioned to realize humanity, we must also admit inhuman. With the loss of humanity, the humanity of a person had been stolen; so he became oppressed. For those who are oppressed, to be is to have continuity and control over the oppressed is what they should have. Those who suppress others see the oppressed as those objects and not human to be treated with integrity. The oppressed is in their situation, because they are "lazy" and ungrateful for the offer generously provided by the elite. As the oppressors engaged in oppression, they violate the rights of others and they themselves become dehumanized. To restore the humanity of both, the oppressed must fight to change their status, but not become the oppressors in this process.
