Freedom: A Desire of Everybody
Women always covet to have a happy marriage. In the wedding, women always expect that the husband will be a person always support her, make her happy, and she could be sharing everything with him. If everybody is satisfied with their marriage, there is not exist of divorce. The number of divorces is rising every year; it means that they are not happy with their wedding, and the reason lead to divorce that they do not have the same standpoint or unrealistic expectations and lack of commitment. As in the story “Trifles,” the woman is depressed of her marriage and her life become embroil by marriage. As a result, she solves her marriage with unexpected way. In the story, the author uses many symbols such as the bird, birdcage, and the rope to emphasize the story. Furthermore, not only symbols, but the author also made isolation, justice, and ingratitude to make a theme in the story.
A bird is a symbol that presents for Mrs. Wright and her a spirit. The author describes a bird and Mrs. Wright have the same condition. As a bird can fly and sing to anywhere they want, they have freedom without being stopped by anyone. Before marriage, Mrs. Wright used to be a singer; she was one of a popular girl in the choir. She has freedom, wore beautiful clothing and she can sing anytime without stopped by anyone. “She – she was kind of like a bird herself - real sweet and pretty, but timid and – fluttery” (Glaspell1114). However, after Mrs. Wright married,
The canary helps her remember the joy she had singing. The canary is something she could care for and love. ”If there had been years and years of nothing, then a bird to sing to you, it would be awful-still-after the bird was still” (Glaspell 557). The bird’s cage defines how when she marries Mr. Wright she became trapped in his cage. The broken door symbolizes that she was a broken woman barely hanging on to hope. Mr. Wright cruel and unjust treatment to her and the bird causes retaliation. When he snapped the canary’s neck she is forced to kill him.
One of the women made the comment that Mrs. Wright used to be pretty and happy, when she was Minnie Foster not Minnie Wright. This is just the beginning of realizing that she was just pushed to far into depression and couldn't live up to John Wright's expectations anymore. The Wrights had no children and Mrs. Wright was alone in the house all day long. The women perceive John Wright to be a controlling husband who in fact probably wouldn't have children and this may have upset Mrs. Wright. They eventually find vacant bird cage and ponder upon what happened to the bird, realizing Mrs. Wright was lonely they figured she loved the bird and it kept her company. The women make reference to the fact that Mrs. Wright was kind of like a bird herself, and that she changed so much since she married John Wright. They begin looking for stuff to bring her and they find the bird dead and they realize someone had wrung its neck. This is when they realize Mrs. Wright was in fact pushed to far, John Wright had wrung her bird's neck and in return Minnie Wright wrung his.
One fundamental form of freedom is the capability for an individual to be independent enough to understand, and witness what is really happening around them, so that they are able to have ideas and become the person that they want to become. In the novel “A Brave New World”, John the Savage had the opportunity of experiencing both the World State and the Savage Reservation which were made up of two completely different societies that helped to shape John into who he was. Both societies have something in common in the fact that they both have their own ideas up until a certain extent and also in the way that neither are truly free. They only know what they have grown up with and do not truly understand what is happening in the world beyond the
This is a story about freedom. A daring tale of a young boy taking a stand for what he believed in. The joys and horrors of a bold trek through the wild streets of Brookline, Massachusetts. This is an account of the first time I went out without my parents.
Human beings are emotional individuals. Their feelings direct them in one direction or the next, and brutally establish who they are, and what they do. It is the human environment that activates these emotions, and these emotions that in turn impact the human environment. They can be either positive or negative in nature, and are centered with government and society. When life is attained from a human being, their outlook on life becomes devious. Having a positive on life conceives comfort in many people’s lives. When an outside fury comes along and changes someone’s life, his or her attitude is going to change drastically. In three
of us fail to cherish and value our granted freedom. Many of us do not
Despite disagreements about rights given to black Americans after the Civil War, white Americans and black Americans agreed on the meaning of freedom during and after the Civil War to a moderate extent. However, there were many ambivalent feelings in the ways in which the two groups agreed and disagreed.
The struggle for freedom is big, people will always have reasons for not letting you have it. No matter what kind of freedom you want, you will always have to work and fight for other people and yourself to find it. Over the years there has been a lot of hate but also a lot hope, considering this there are a lot of controlling people who want power, but there is also a lot who are selfless and want that freedom from society and primitive thinking. These are qualities a lot of people have but, there is people who have persevered and never quit fighting for what they believe. In the collection of texts that we’ve read, freedom is obtained by never ceasing from fighting for what you want, no matter how many people don’t want you to have it.
Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to learn and do the same.” We all know what freedom is. Do we all respect it? Probably not and that’s not ok. I will be talking about how America gave me freedom, the chance to excel at what we want, and the freedom to vote and make choices for our country.
One hot sunny evening, I decided to go to Starbucks to grab a drink, normally I would go through the drive-thru but it was so hot that I decided to park and walk inside to order my drink instead. As I was walking in, to stand in line I happened to run into an old friend of mine, Thomas Jefferson. Thomas, wrote the ‘Declaration of Independence’, he seemed quite in a great mood. As I was staring at him, I asked him, “Why in such a great mood?” He replied, “It's a beautiful day to be free! Because freedom is my greatest happiness.” I sure was glad for him to see this glad; however, I felt confused by his comment, “freedom is my greatest happiness.” I asked Thomas, “Do you have time to hang out and chat for a while?” he immediately, said, “yes! It’s been a while since we talked.” Once I grabbed my drink I walked over to the tablet to sit down with him, shortly after three other good friends walked in and sat down with us in the table soon after they ordered their drinks. We all started to talk and catch up on our lives. They all seemed very content, relaxed yet satisfied with life, in the contrary I felt stressed and tensed up, I wanted to be as content as them but it was nearly impossible only because my situation was different from theirs. They all noticed and started to ask me, what was going on? I felt as why bother to bore them with my troubles, so I changed my conversation; instead I asked, "you guys all look so happy, what's the secret?” They all smirked and started to share their thoughts.
Since the beginning of time, our world has been changing and inhabiting groups of different people throughout. The recipe for a well-functioning society was produced with leadership and order as one of the main ingredients. As time has progressed, the qualifications of leaders and what the people should follow have changed immensely. Places around the world have different styles of leadership and civilization, and since the creation of the 13 colonies, America has been a republic that it is well-known for today. Despite the protest, and acts of people throughout this century, the idealistic society hasn’t been reached. In order for the United States of America to prosper, total equality and peace should be established.
Freedom. Momma has been saying that freedom is near, today is December 6, 1865. Today the constitution was changed and slavery is now against the law. Me and momma live on Oak Alley Plantation in the big house. Momma a high yella, just like me, high cheekbones, slender body and pretty hair. The other women at the plantation don’t like momma. Massa is my pa but momma told me not to tell nobody. He comes in our room and lays down with ma while I'm sleep on the floor or while he thinks I’m sleep on the floor. Ion know what momma and me gon do cause we ain't got nothing. Ain't nowhere for us to go.
there is incredible inequality and very sexist norms and people in the world today, I know my freedom is not granted through or better yet not based on the government, laws passed, or even how males or others treat me; my freedom is guaranteed through the blood of the Lamb. God has opened my eyes to see the powerful messages in the Bible that have proven as a woman I do not have to walk in fear or in chains. I am a daughter of the one true King, and he is the only one who can grant me this freedom that we, women, are all searching for. God has really encouraged and challenged me with his words, and I pray that if you feel God tugging at your heart, you would take the time to read this and look past any of my imperfections in this (because all though I try not to be, I am a biased, imperfect human with little experience in this) and hear the words that God wants you to hear.
Everyday, just like millions of other children, I would start school by rising and placing my right hand over my heart, as I stared at the American flag. I would simply go through the motions, giving no thought to what the flag meant to me. To some, it is a daily reminder of the fear and oppression that occurs in this country. While to others, it is an expression of their freedom. However, to me, it is a embodiment of the mindset all citizens of America, past and present, and their struggle to achieve the true freedom of the American dream.
What is freedom? Freedom is having the right to do or say anything without a hindrance. There are multiple ways one can have freedom. The freedom could be limited or unlimited. Sometimes, one can’t obtain any freedom. I’ve been exposed to both limited and unlimited freedom. I’ve also haven’t had any freedom.
