“America’s Gift to My Generation” In this essay I will tell you what America’s gift to my generation. I will be writing about the different electronics, games, rights, veterans, and solar power. The most important thing that was given to my generation was my teacher Mrs. Evjen or Jody Evjen. Instead of the news we have Mrs. Evjen. How do we have her instead of the news you might ask? Well, she tells us about things that are happening in our state, country, and around the world. She was the one who told us about North Korea launching test missiles. America gave my generation electronics. These electronics include laptops, tablets, X-boxes, and Play Stations. They also gave us games for on these devices. These games include Minecraft, Gears
The three essays of rhetorical criticism, Telling America 's Story: Narrative Form and the Regan Presidency by William F. Lewis, The "Promiscuous Audience" Controversy and the Emergence of the Early Woman 's Rights Movement by Susan Zaeske, and Medicine, Rhetoric, and Euthanasia: A Case Study in the Workings of a Postmodern Discourse by Michael J. Hyde each employ a variety of strategies to examine the rhetoric of three distinct situations. This paper will attempt to dissect each of the essays in a comparative manner. Specifically, it will evaluate the introductions, how effectively they are constructed, and how the essays follow according to the expectations set forth in the introductions.
“You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose!”~Dr.Seuss. Today my generation has been given the chance to have freedom. Why you ask? This is because America went through a lot of arguing and fighting to get where we are today. I have been given the chance of a lifetime, to be in a world that I can be what I want and make decisions of my own. When I think of freedom I think of people who have chosen to fight for us and stand up for what is right.
¨ It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences¨ (Unknown). Humans should not discriminate others because of what they look like, what religion they are, or even by the color of their skin and that is what this quote is saying to me. I am so grateful to know that I live in a generation that is more accepting than any other. To know how my parents and grandparents and so on had to live with hate from others just because of the their appearance. I do know that my generation still face discrimination, but it is not as bad as the generations before mine. This matters because people can feel comfortable in their own skin and becauses is sets us
“Everything is just starting for you. Your life hasn’t even begun yet.” – Adisa Trebinčević (221) When citizens in war-torn homelands aspire for better lives, they commonly have to look outward and travel across the world to follow their dream. For Kenan Trebinčević and Amal Abulheja, their dream wasn’t necessarily to depart their country, but with recurring violence and trauma, once opportunities arose, both fled to the United States. Respectively, you can say their lives hadn’t started until they arrived in America. Coming to the United States remarkably changed their lives forever. For the purpose of this essay, I will be sharing the similarities and differences of the initial experience of Kenan and Amal becoming “American.”
After mid-1990s (Swerdlow, 5), people from all around the world, including legal and illegal, searched for American dream and landed in the same location – United States. According to Changing America, “more than 60 percent of immigrants have come from Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Latin America” (Swerdlow, 5), showing America’s high schools - such as J. E. B. Stuart (Swerdlow, 5) - are made up by difference races and ethnics. By looking at the picture on page eight, it demonstrates America’s distinctiveness of population.
In my opinion, being an American means so much more than just living in the United States. Being an American means that you are free, able to create opportunities, able to vote for what you believe in, able to bring about change to benefit your community, etcetera. Being an American gives you the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but it also creates opportunities for injustices. While this country is not perfect, I believe that being an American is a privilege that many other people are not able to enjoy. Often times people take this for granted and unfortunately, this causes disrespect to others and to our nation. Above all, I believe that being an American is about respect.
My responsibility as an American is to improve our country by taking advantage of the opportunities given and utilize them to better our country for the generations to come. Everyone is given a chance to fulfill a purpose on Earth with the end result to hopefully leave it better than you found it. I believe as Americans we should not stop at just improving our nation, but go beyond the bar to help countries in poverty. Many forget what a huge privilege it is to be an American. Take advantage of where you come from and do something to honor America.
America today is no longer a place in which we embrace the uniqueness of every individual, instead, today’s society heavily influences its citizens through the thoughts of other people, media, and by instilling fear of being different; they do so by giving the people the ability to “choose” who they want to be, in other words false choice. Throughout history there have been times in which all individuals in a certain area such as America, have made a drastic change to the way that they live in; the first one being The Great Awakening, followed by the Red Scare, which later is proceeded by World War 2(WW2). With the ability to spread one’s ideas to a large crowd over papers, online, and radio made it easier for their beliefs to spread and influence them. The only thing that prevents us from sticking to our beliefs, from what we desire to do, is the fear to be different.
America is our home, a place where we have freedoms. Our gift of freedom must be protected by valiant people who wish to sustain the lasting affects of it. This gift does not come easily, it has a price. In order to continue our way of life we must fight for independence from Britain. We came to this country for a new life and opportunities. Leading up to now, we face a problem. The red coats are unlawfully forcing us from our rights. It's a false hope that Britain will back off. If we do not stand up and courageously fight for our independence we will go back to our old life, the one we escaped by coming to America. It is important that we stand up to the British empire. This is our home and it must be protected.
America’s gift to my generation is safety. To me safety means you are not at risk of being in danger. I believe we are safe because of God first of all, but also our military. We are so lucky to be a strong country and have a strong military. You can look at this topic two ways. We are safer from terrorist attacks now than 15 years ago, but we also have more mass shootings now than we have before.
Knowledge on how to make a better tomorrow while being an everyday American in America. Is something we all want to know how to do. Little do we know it all begins with history. Knowing your facts knowing what happened in the past can help better our future. So, studying and learning about American history makes a big impact on society. It’s a source we can consider getting an understanding of human interaction and how everything came to be the way it is today. So, it is left to us to share our history on to the next generation and so forth. This responsibility is not just story telling but it’s a chance for us to tell our experiences to the best of our ability. From viewing Howard Zinn’s chapter one its explains the history of Christopher Columbus and it doesn’t leave out what
Growing up through the years, especially as a female adolescent, I am not confronted with what I believe my responsibility to America is. However, I do feel very inclined to help my country. I am a significant citizen that contains an important voice for our nation. However, I can only assist my home, if I decide to apply my voice for good. When I apply my voice, I am demonstrating the following: I want to help the nation prosper and I am committed citizen that supports my country. Numerous people do not expect this from me because I am very young and I am a girl. There’s a noticeable imbalance given to the importance of a woman's voice as opposed to a man. Even though this is evident, I still believe I am an integral part in my country and that it’s my
My responsibilities to America as found in the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services list of Citizens Rights and Responsibilities are: support and defend the constitution; be informed of the issues that affect my community; participate in the democratic process; respect and obey the federal, state, and local laws; respect the rights, opinions, and beliefs of others; participate in my local community; pay taxes honestly and on time to federal, state, and local authorities; serve on a jury when called upon; and defend the country should the need arise.
The United States of America was founded on July 4, 1776 during the second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia. During this meeting America declared independence, which let the world know that it was now a free country. Since that day, America has been recognized as a land of opportunity and prosperity. As said by President Barack Obama, “Now, as a nation, we don't promise equal outcomes, but we were founded on the idea everybody should have an equal opportunity to succeed. No matter who you are, what you look like, where you come from, you can make it. That's an essential promise of America. Where you start should not determine where you end up”(Obama). The United States of America is known for their rich history, freedoms, cultural and ethnic diversity, which makes up its identity.
In the future, I hope that America isn’t destroyed by society’s cruel ways, poverty, and by giving all their money to other countries. The U.S. seems to have all the peaches and roses but in reality now in today society everyone seems to be at war with each other because of race. Poverty is another problem, which they should try to help those who are poor instead of leaving them to rot in the street like if they were nothing. Then lastly, they should try to avoid giving so much money to other countries. Their debt is so high that 18 trillion wasn’t even a thing until America began to have so much debt.
