Franklin D. Roosevelt's Early Life

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30th, 1882 to James Roosevelt and his second wife, Sara Delano. Their family grew up in a small town in New York, where Franklin was born. He had no full siblings but, one half brother named James Roosevelt Roosevelt. James was a child to James Roosevelt’s first wife, Rebecca Howland. Growing up, Franklin did not attend a public school until he was fourteen. Until then, he was tutored and had many governesses. When he did attend school, it was a boarding school called Groton, which was a school to prepare students for college. So, growing up, his family no financial problems. Franklin did attend Harvard for college and in his freshman year, his father passed away.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the thirty-second president of the United States and lived from January 30th 1882, to April 12th 1945. He was born in Dutchess County, New York to James Roosevelt and Sara Delano, upon which were considered a prosperous and upscale family. In accordance, James Roosevelt was an established and successful businessman and along with Sara Delano, raised Franklin in a way relative to English nobility. In so, he was raised in a privileged setting with loving emotions exerted from his parents. With the exceptional wealth possessed by his family, Franklin possessed many privileges, some of which consisted of luxurious family travels overseas and personal Swedish tutors who assisted in his educational needs.

Theodore, or, “Teddy” Roosevelt truly had an eventful life. From leading the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American war, becoming president, and finally going on an expedition in Africa to collect over 11,000 specimens for the Smithsonian’s Natural History museum; Teddy Roosevelt’s life was far from boring. I think he’s especially appealing to me as I’ve always strived to stay determined in trying to finish whatever project I’m undertaking. It’s not always easy, so people like Roosevelt inspire me to go through with completing whatever task might lie ahead of me. He just showed so much determination throughout his entire life. What does it really mean to be determined though? I’m going to look at how the definition has changed over the years, how Roosevelt displays it, and perhaps one of his greatest displays of determination throughout his life.

cousin were highly known for having the brains to outwit the smartest John on the block. His parents were Sara Roosevelt and James Roosevelt. His parents wanted perfect out of their child so James did everything to make the child afraid of them. FDR has a cousin who later became president. FDR went to Columbia University Law School for becoming a lawyer and building the mind.

Franklin Roosevelt was critical to building of America. He wasn’t only the thirty two percent of the U.S. but he did more than that. Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, New York on January 30, 1882. He came from a wealthy family, but weren’t snobs. He started his education at home and was taught to help others out at age 14. When Franklin was ending his college degree at Harvard, he became engaged. He ended up marrying his fifth cousin Eleanor Roosevelt. Although they stayed married he had a love affair. His love affair was with his wife’s social secretary. Eleanor found out about the love affair but they stayed married even though Franklin was not loyal. They stayed married but more as a business friend relationship than a romantic relationship.

He strives to become President of the Political Party but lost to Woodrow Wilson and 1912. Impressed with Roosevelt’s abilities Wilson appointed Roosevelt assistant secretary of the navy. With holding this position for 8 years until he resigned.
