Franklin D. Roosevelt Vs. Abraham Lincoln

Roosevelt won the 1932 election after a landslide victory over his predecessor Herbert Hoover. At this time, America was going through one of the toughest times

President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the thirty-second president of the United States, was a central figure for the United States in the 20th Century. While leading his country out of The Great Depression, he also led the nation through World War II. Herbert Hoover, the thirty-first President, led the country during the Great Depression and his policies enforced at that time eventually led to his downfall because of their inability to end the downward economic spiral. Both of these Presidents greatly contributed to the nation by using different policies and tactics that classified them as either liberal or conservative. Although there are some exceptions because of the acts passed by Hoover, the characterizations of President D.

As the 1908 presidential election was approaching, Roosevelt was technically able to run for a third term because his first term was a result of the assassination of William McKinley and the twenty-second amendment had not been passed, limiting presidents to only two terms. Even though he could serve another term, he did not think he should because no one else before him had served more than two. Although Roosevelt did not want to run for a third term he knew that if he didn't the Republican party would split between his supporters and the supporters of another candidate which would allow a non-republican to win the election. Like any two people in the world Franklin D. Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan both have their own views about war, women’s rights, gay rights, foreign policy, and many other problems facing our country. These two presidents have greatly impacted our country since they were in office. Roosevelt and Reagan have helped shape our country into what it is today.

Franklin D. Roosevelt ran in the presidental election in 1932 against Herbet Hoover. Before, Roosevelt had been an assistant secretary of the navy, was nominated for Vice President in 1920, and in 1928 he was the governer of New York. During his campaign, he had promised “a new deal for the American people.” He beat Hoover by an outstanding amount of votes, 472 to 59. The New Deal would later sent an affect on everyone.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States of America.  He served for 1861 to 1865.  He led the citizens of the United States through a great war.  Most presidents hid most of what they did from the American people. However, Lincoln did not.  This earned him the nickname "Honest Abe".  The most well known of presidents are just that, well known.  They are remembered greatly, but didn't do the best for our country.  They ruined our country

There are several similarities between the Roosevelt and Obama presidencies; they both took office when the country was going through financial struggles. When President Franklin Roosevelt took office, the country was going through the Great Depression and the economy was failing. In an attempt to stimulate the economy and create jobs to reduce the unemployment rates, he passed several measures during his first 100 days as president, as part of his New Deal plan. When President Obama took office, the country was experiencing a period of recession. He enacted the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act along with other acts as part of his economic stimulation plan.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt and President William Clinton had similar and contrasting viewpoints on domestic policy. Both presidents took office which there was an economic struggle and unemployment was low. Also, the unemployment rate was declining, business’s were going bankrupt and an international crisis they had to deal with to maintain free trade. President Roosevelt had the more severe circumstances with the Great Depression that occurred because of the Stock Market crash in 1929, and fighting a two front in World War II. When President Roosevelt took office, the unemployment rate was 25 %, which is historically the worst depression in history.

The thirty second president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt was a central and key figure during the many terms he served under the presidency. He has got America through the Great Depression and World War 2. Franklin’s predecessor, Herbert Hoover was the first to lead the American people out of the Great Depression but his policies he enforced at that time led to his downfall because of the inability to end the downward economic spiral. Both presidents immensely helped the nation using the different policies that either defined them as a liberal or conservative. Roosevelt is a liberal with the various acts and government involvement enforced by him, and Hoover a conservative with his “hands off method”.

Two great men, two great presidents, led our nations to excellency and great success. Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were hard working, intelligent men who were very familiar, but were also different in many aspects. Through their dedication to our country and their passion of politics they have made our country better.

In conclusion, these two important presidents had many similarities and differences. Their early life, their accomplishments, struggles, and up to their deaths; George Washington and Abraham Lincoln will forever be remembered for their courage and determination. Out of all the presidents we have

Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt were two of America’s great presidents. This is why I feel that both men were equally important in what they did and said they would do. Both in their own ways have added a little of what makes this country what it is today. Both had their own beliefs of how reform, empowerment of the people and foreign policy should be accomplished. As president, the main goal was to do what they felt best for the American people. In doing so, how different could they really be?

During his life he followed after his distant cousin, Theodore Roosevelt, and entered into the political and economic scene. He won a Senate seat for the New York Senate in 1910 and was reelected again in 1912. During his second term as a senator he Woodrow Wilson named Roosevelt Assistant Secretary of the Navy, under Josephus Daniels. “Roosevelt worked to expand the Navy and founded the United States Navy Reserve.” (Roosevelt, Franklin Delano). He served in that position for seven years and it prepared him for what he would face in his later years. Contrary to his cousin, Roosevelt chose to be a Democrat. In this democratic position he was chosen to be the nominee for Vice President with James Cox in 1920 going against Harding. He was defeated by a long shot, but like other trials in his life he persevered. In 1928 Governor Alfred E. Smith arranged Roosevelt to get his governor position. Almost thirteen years later Franklin Roosevelt was named the 32nd president of the United States of America. After 63 years, on April 12, 1945 Franklin Delano Roosevelt left his full, content life.

Both President Roosevelt and Kennedy made their purpose, history and commitment very seriously. Although the Presidents had different outlooks on things, they both stepped forward and proved their situation to be well set forth. Together they had the support of their people, may not have been the complete support but they persuaded the best choice for the peoples of the United States of America. The presidents were at two different time periods but had similar problems that needed to be addressed and taken care of, both presidents
