Mary Shelley, the author of the Gothic novel Frankenstein, conveys many messages throughout her work. The most relevant and significant message that Shelley promotes is that it is not our-man kind’s- business to carry out the jobs of the gods. This is why Victor Frankenstein tells his story in the first place. Today, in the 21st century, this warning is still valid. It is also still worth hearing as we are doing the same thing today that Frankenstein did; we are using technology to create human life from scratch.
Shelley’s story was told within the book as a warning and as a caution to mankind. My cousin and her husband went through this tough process so they were able to have their own child. This process is a series of procedures that help to treat genetic problems or fertility and assist with the conception of a child. My cousin was infertile and unable to conceive, so her and her husband decided to try IVF. They have been married for almost six years and have been trying to conceive for a long time, once my cousin found out that she was infertile their relationship started to go downhill. They always wanted to have children of their own. My cousin would not negotiate on the idea of adopting a child- she wanted her own. In this process, the doctors implanted three embryos in her so she had a larger chance to conceive. She gave birth to two beautiful twin babies. So, just as Dr. Frankenstein used lightning as a catalyst to bring his creation to life, my aunt and uncle used the technology of insemination and fertilization which includes small surgeries and other procedures to bring new life into this
