The paper reviews four cases of violent acts and analyzes the language within these cases to demonstrate how language reveals, exposes, or distorts perpetrators’ violence and victims’ responses and resistance. This paper will use the four discursive operations to reveal how the language in the following four violent cases distributes responsibility to the victim and attempts to soften the view of the perpetrator. The four discursive operations are concealing violence, obscures and mitigates the perpetrator’s responsibility, conceals the victim’s resistance, and blames or pathologizes the victim. He stated that, “Women who went out at night had only themselves to blame if they attracted the attention of gangs of male molesters. A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy. You can’t clap with one hand – it takes two hands. A decent girl won’t roam around at 9 o’clock at night. A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy. His statement suggests that women should not go out at night because they are asking for rape. He attempts to divert responsibility for his actions to the victim for being out late at night. He says, “a girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy”. He blatantly blames women for letting them get raped; the state also places a small portion of blame on the perpetrator as well.
