Forensic Psychologist

The clinician develops a professional relationship with the client in order to assess and treat their disorder. A Forensic psychologist work requirements are different from a clinician in the field of psychology because the services he/she provides are in areas where they have specialized knowledge, skills, experience and education. He/she administers assessments to determine competency to stand trial and can testify as an expert witness. The forensic psychologist does not have a professional relationship with the client as their main focus is assessing the individual in order to submit a report to the court (Hubaboom, 2002).

Forensic Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have specialized in psychiatry, which is the study and treatment of mental illness, and subspecialize in forensic psychiatry. Forensic science is the application of science to criminal and civil laws. They earn an annual salary of 193,680 dollars and are expected to grow 15 percent in the 2014-2024 decade. A Forensic Psychiatrists required education is a pre-med college course(4 years), medical school(4 years), psychiatry residency(4 years), lastly a Forensic Psychiatry fellowship(1-2 years). They also need to have a state medical license to practice medicine and a board certification available, and credit to maintain both. Finally, they’re required to have DEA(Drug Enforcement Administration)

Through myriad lectures, I am finding that I learn best kinesthetically. Hands-on activities provide kinesthetic learners with a deeper understanding of material that they do not receive with lectures alone. Simply reading a textbook or following a power-point is great for note-taking, but I have found that notes are not enough for me. By actually doing, I benefit from practice, and the content is better stored in memory. Even with simple flashcards for memorizing vocabulary or historical dates, I will excel further than by skimming over a sheet of paper or by listening to the information repeatedly read aloud. If I achieve my goal of becoming a crime scene technician, my learning style will take me far because the job will require me to collect

Forensic nursing is a unique profession that encompasses a wide variety of specialties. The profession is based on an integral practice model, which means that nurses take on a more holistic approach of care (Dossey, 2008). The forensic nurse fits many of the roles Cherry and Jacob (2014) describes in their book. The nurse is a care provider and advocate for their clients and provide education and counseling on resources available. Additionally, due to the nature of the profession, forensic nurses must be a leader and manager working with multidisciplinary teams and use their expertise to improve the profession. I will focus on advocacy and research for the purpose of this assignment.

The basic job of a forensic science technician is to aid in police investigations by collecting and analyzing evidence. Forensic science technicians have a large variety of tasks they could be assigned to. They work in many conditions, both outside on a crime scene and inside in labs. Sometimes, the technicians may travel and their work schedules could be chaotic at times. When they work on a crime scene, they are in charge of collecting, cataloging, preserving, sketching, and taking photos of evidence. In a lab, they are responsible for analyzing, consulting, and exploring hidden links in their evidence. Forensic Anthropologist involves with the study of human remains for legal purpose. This job helps the ever expanding world of criminal law and the need for justice. It helps bring answer in the science community on how to analyze and distinguish decaying remains and how to identify their identity. In conclusion forensic anthropologists allow for murders or accidents to be revealed and slowly let them rest in peace.

There are special guidelines for forensic psychologist who performs evaluations for the court systems. There has to be a reason/purpose as to why the evaluation was needed, reasons such as insanity cases, custody evaluation, and abuse assessment.

At the moment, I am still unsure of what major and career I am going to pursue. I am looking into different fields and what would interest me, and at the moment I am looking toward photography related fields. One career that I have been interested in lately is a forensic photographer, or crime scene photographer. They are called to crime scenes in order to take photographs for the law enforcement, so they can study them for future purposes. Cases can take months or even years to solve, so these photographs help preserve the original scene and evidence. Not only do they take pictures of the overall scene, but of different objects in the room or area as well to give investigating officers a feel of what happened.

The first booth I visited during the even was the Criminal Justice booth where my personal friend Fahar Jumma was a representative. I asked her what her most enjoyable classes were and why and she responded that she loved Investigations class. Fahar elaborated that she’s fond of Investigations because professors share their hands-on experiences with crime scenes so it’s like watching a crime drama in real life.

Forensic psychological evaluations can help when decisions need to occur that involve an individual’s evaluation of readiness for parole or probation. When individuals are convicted of a crime, and then serve some or all of their sentence, they may be eligible for parole or probation. Developing measures that will help with this type of determination may greatly assist in preventing the early release of individuals that are highly likely to repeat criminal activity (Cohen, Serdlik, & Sturman, 2013). There are many variables that play a part in whether or not someone will lapse back into criminal activity; including length of incarceration, availability of meaningful employment, stable housing, reconnecting with family, and the accessibility

A Crime Scene Investigator is the use of physical evidence at the scene of the crime and the use of deductive and inductive reasoning to gain knowledge of the events surrounding the crime. With my career choice, the benefits of it will be lots of them. For example I will be helping others and that is something I love to do like I said earlier. I know that with my help many stories will change in families lives because they will now sleep well knowing the truth of a victim’s murder. My major key in life being a CSI is to succeed and make it to the top 10 best Crime Scene Investigators all around the world. It’s a dream come true because I know that I will make it with all of my effort in my job. I will succeed in life and this career will help

My interest in forensic psychology goes back into my early elementary years. As a child, my main dream was to become a profiler or a crime scene detective. I loved reading crime books and watching shows about it. I wanted to be like the people I read in those books and the people I saw on television. However, when I got to college, my mindset changed, but not for long. During my freshman year, I was a biology major wanting to be a Veterinarian. My passion at that time in my life was to help animals.

1) The types of work professionals in specialty areas within the larger field of psychology do

    A forensic psychologist needs to complete a doctoral program. Before one can enter a program however, they must already have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. After that, they will enter a doctoral program that will take around four years of graduate coursework, during this time they also have to complete an internship before they can graduate. It doesn’t end there for some, since in some  places you also need 2 years of experience and you’ll need to pass an Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) to get your license. After all of that, one will finally be able to work. Generally though, people get PHDs in clinical psychology before the doctoral program.

Forensic psychology is the connection between psychology and the justice system. The word forensic derives from the Latin word “forensic” meaning “forum” the place where trials were accompanied in Roman times. There are many definitions that exist for forensic psychology but the more narrow definition applies to the intersection of clinical psychology to legal matters.
