Any hit to the head is severe because it can affect in the moment or in the future and it does not matter if the person is young or old. Players do not feel the pain at the moment because of so much adrenaline but it affects them later. Mike Webster for example, he was a great N.F.L football player. He played O-lineman as a center. When he passed away, he was diagnosed with C.T.E, the degenerating brain disease linked to repeated head hits. The made helmets and pads. They made helmets so they can protect the players head from any serious injury. They also made two types of pads, one is for the shoulders and chest, and the other one is for the thighs. The equipment the players would wear before, were nothing compared to the ones of today. They use to wear metal helmets with no padding inside and whenever they would get hit it was even worse than having no helmet. Now they look out more for the safety of the players so the helmets have special padding so when there are contact, the helmet does not observe it all. The helmets now have special straps so the players can adjust them and they even come with a chin strap for more safety. Now there is all types of designs that players can choose with their helmets for the facemask and a variety of brands of helmets. There are also visors to put on the helmet so the sun does not blind the quarterback from throwing or receivers from catching the ball. Many players in the N.F.L wear visors like the offensive lineman or defensive lineman, but some are just to intimidate or others just because they want to protect their eyes from being poked while blocking. The pads for the chest and shoulders also have padding inside to protect more. In a way it is helpful and in the other it is bad, because they might be getting more cushion whenever they get hit, they will not feel the impact
