Coaches need to have certain skills and knowledge to undertake the role. In my opinion a coach needs to be patient, supportive, interested, aware of others as well as self, attentive and perceptive. Such elements underpin effective coaching and a genuine interest in the person being coached.

The 4 roles of a sports coach I am going to talk about it are for them to be a motivator, an organiser, a mentor and a role model.

In the current “win now NFL”, head coach’s seats are luke warm before the first whistle in training camp with their new team. Since the hot trend is to find an extremely young inexperienced guy to fill the main position on an NFL coaching staff, long tenured coaches are few and far between.

To be able to become an athletic trainer, you have to go through a huge amount of work. For one you have to be attending an accredited university. You also have to be accepted by an Athletic Training Educational Program and be pursuing a major in athletic training. You have to do 1800 hours in clinical and the program will last for 3 years. After you fulfilled those requirements you have to pass the BOC. The BOC is a national test which cost about three hundred dollars and you have to make a 500 to pass. Once you passed this you will finally be a certified athletic trainer. Tila had pursued her goals for an Athletic Trainer at Texas State University, and received a Bachelor’s degree. Though she went to Texas State University for her bachelor’s degree, she didn’t stop there. Having a coach in life will positively influence your character and your skills. Also, having a coach doesn’t necessarily mean that your playing on a field. A coach can be anyone from a role model to a parent or guardian, a teacher, a pastor, a mentor, or sometimes even a best friend. One of the most important things for a coach to have is influence, and more important than that is that the influence he has on his players must be positive. As a leader, a coaches job is to better his players on and off of the field. Nfl coaching does not require a lot of school. The Bureau of Labor Statistics recorded that “Coaches and scouts typically need a bachelor’s degree”(“ Coaches and Scouts”). They must also have extensive knowledge of the sport. Coaches typically gain this knowledge through their own experiences playing the sport at some level. High schools typically hire teachers or administrators at the school for most coaching jobs.

It is like a manager for a big time company recruiting job position is what I compare it too. A responsibility in their job is to oversee the administrative part of the recruiting process. The first step they do for recruiting is they use all resources they can get to find kids name and get as much information about them as they can. They also get more information from when coaches go out and recruit. The biggest time for them is after spring when the coaches come back with a big list of names and they go from there and get as much information. The environment of working this job is a fun, interesting environment. You get to get out and meet new new athletes while working with the coaches. You will need college experience while working this job, a four-year bachelor’s degree is what you need to get a job as a director of player personnel. As to taking over as director of player personnel, many have played or coached that sport in their life before. When I think of coaching I think of practice planning, game planning, scouting strategizing of offense and defense, choosing my starters, little things like that. All of those ideas are valid, but that’s not the whole picture. There is a lot more to coaching than planning for a practice or a game. Many times a person who would like to coach an interschool athletic team has little or no preparation to teach sports skills and techniques. After receiving my degree and certification I will need to find an open position. It is predicted by USNews.com that there will be 29.4% growth in employment outlook for coaches in the years 2010-2020. As stated earlier there is no experience requirement, the only thing suggested is to have background knowledge of the game. I plan on becoming a physical education teacher at the high school level. By doing this I will be able to find employment easier than just being a football coach. Since many of the schools hire teachers to be coaches, being a teacher will make this process easier for me to get involved with the football program from the beginning and work my way up to eventually becoming head coach.
