4.1 Organisation Overview Foodworks Beaumaris (Vic), located in the shopping strip on Balcombe Road, Beaumaris is a typical medium sized grocer/liquer retailer as determined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics - greater than 20 but less than 200 employees. The “Foodworks” brand came about following the merger of the FoodWorks Supermarket Group Ltd (FSG) and Australian United Retailers (AUR) in November 2004 in response to rapid industry consolidation and increased competition. Now trading as Australian United Retailers Limited (AURL) the company has close to 650 supermarkets, food and convenience stores spanning seven states and territories nationally – 400 of which trade with the “Foodworks” banner. Each store is independently owned and unlike any other supermarket brand in Australia, every store is different and each have a strong sense of independence, giving them full flexibility to tailor their store to their local community’s needs. Foodworks (Beaumaris) is no different and is located on both sides of busy Balcombe Road. The store on the southern side of the road is all liquer while the store on the opposite side is grocery, delicatessen, fruit and veg and butcher.
