This class was al life changing class and all the materials we have been exposed to were full of precious information about food and nutrition ; but the most important lesson that I learned through this semester is the harm that agribusiness and food companies are doing to our health and to our children health. Big companies are blind when it comes to earning money, they could do anything to make more money even making our kids sick. They are powerful and can manipulate the Medias, the public believes and even laws and policies. Food we buy from those companies is full of pesticides, chemicals, antibiotics, GMOs and flavors. Actually, they are controlling the whole food system from the farm to the supermarket. After this course opened my
“‘I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin, but begin anyway and you see it through no matter what’” (Lee 112). Courage can be defined many ways.
Personally, I have loved the FIT QUEST PROJECT. Along the way, I found it difficult to understand why exactly my client had to have a set diet, a workout routine, and a schedule, but as time went on, I analyzed many parts of the project that really allowed me to figure out why I am completing the task. By being a nutritionist for Randy, I have really been able to understand the importance of a healthy diet and the essentials that come along with it. This project has made me more curious about a healthy lifestyle, and I hope to take this information with me, and use it to my advantage for the rest of my life. By performing this project, I have gotten to explore many aspects of human life, and have been able to demonstrate it on my client, Randy.
My strengths in my One-Day Nutrition, is that I ate a healthy breakfast as I ate two scrambled eggs, hot black coffee, and a toast without toppings. I also measured the calorie intakes for my breakfast and lunch. This helped me make a better choice in choosing healthier foods to eat. Besides making a better choice it also helped me eat in smaller portions. I have a strong will in the day, in saying “no” to unhealthy foods, but unfortunately I do not in the evening.
People have lost sight of the common denominator with all the finger pointing, when it comes to the intriguing argument of whom or what determines what we eat. Individuals have forgotten the process of supply and demand, democracy, and most important individual choices.
I chose my mother for this assignment because she has a few bad habits like drinking 5 or 6 cans of soda as well as eating fast food on an everyday basis. Even before we started this assignment I was already pushing her in that direction. I started a diet 3 months ago and I have a lot of results from doing it. She would always ask me what I was doing to get so some much. So this assignment a perfect storm for her.
Watching the documentary Food Inc, there were a few points that stood out most to me. I think one of the most important concerns that were brought up is the consumers not knowing the truth behind the food. Whether there is actual harm in our food or not, we still need to know what is going into our food. The harm that may actually be inside our food can be caused by how easy it is to produce crap food now days. Making mass produced food is a lot easier than it has been in the past because genetics have changed animals into growing faster and fatter. This causes harm to the environment by creating factories for these foods to be made, which causes pollution by emitting many CO2 gasses. However this isn’t a concern for the producer. The producer is mainly focused on money they receive even if it causes harm to the environment or the consumers. The use of pesticides and other substances are used in foods, whether it’s in the production of corn growing or in the food in general to help keep germs out. This also causes harm to the consumer and environment that we should be aware of.
We are required to obtain certain amount of nutrients from food. Food can simply divide into 2 groups, macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients composition. Both of the groups mentioned do affect the metabolism rate. According to Hulbert and Else, dietary fatty acid will affect the metabolism rate and some of the polyunsaturated fatty acid will increase the metabolism rate (1999). Meanwhile, different kinds of animals have their own unique requirement for macro-nutrients, such as proteins, carbohydrates and fat. Moreover, most of the food intake is driven by achieving the required protein intake. Animals on a low protein diet will over eat carbohydrates and fat until the protein requirement has been satisfied. If this case
This report is a personal diet analysis that I conducted from 4/5/2016 through 4/7/2016 on myself. I am 35-year old female (not pregnant or lactating) weighing 328.0 pounds with a body fat percentage of over 50% and my BMI is 49.9, which is considered obese. My daily activity level is sedentary, due to my occupation. Other daily activity is limited due to being tired. Outside from work I am not very active, I am always in a sedentary position. When taking my children to the park or event I stay in a sedentary position and do not join in the activities. I recently decided to live a healthier lifestyle, however, it is very difficult when no one in your household does not follow a healthy lifestyle because they are not obese. My goal is to lose
On the 20th of February, I started recording the foods I ate, and see what kind of nutrition I'm getting from my food. With my current BMI, if I wanted to maintain my weight, I was to consume on average 2,590 Calories. The first day I exceed that by 735 Calories, but the next day I was under 145 calories.
When looking to open a nutrition consulting office, it is important to choose an effective dietary nutrition analysis program. I have recorded my own dietary intake for 24 hours and have entered the items into two separate programs that give you the nutrient profile for each food item entered. The two programs are the USDA’s Food List, which is a comprehensive list of 13,000 foods and their nutrients, and the CRON-O-Meter which is a daily food diary, activity log, and biometric log ("CRON-O-Meter User Guide", 2016).
During my undergraduate studies, I took a nutrition and dietetics course. This course was designed to teach students the importance of proper nutrition, which foods were considered healthy and which foods were unhealthy. We learned how to make meal plans, grocery list, meal preparation, which foods were good for certain health issues and which foods to avoid. During this course, I learned principals to promote healthy eating and the prevention of diet related disease conditions. I have always been interested in having a healthy lifestyle and staying healthy. This course helped to give me the foundation that I needed to begin the journey to becoming healthy and maintaining it. I feel the instructor and the lessons that we were taught were very well planned and organized. Thanks to a great instructor, my peers and I were able to leave the class knowing so much more about nutrition than we did before the course.
1) I really like your essay, I never had a clue that the children in Colombia were died because of malnutrition. The introduction is good, but It need to be a little stronger. The background info about the topic still need more information. Since the essay still needs more information you may need to add more efforts, explain more about how to help this situation. Since you only have a part of it it’s hard to tell in the last paragraph was going to be your conclusion. 2) On the thesis statement, you may want to make it stronger for example: The study was conducted during the year??? …. Describe the prevalence of malnutrition number of children between the ages???? …. What I’m trying to tell you is to find a web, or phrase that would make
This assignment was a good experience for me because never in my life I kept track of how much I eat per day. This chart was a good way to keep track of how much I am eating. Write down, when what, how much, for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and snack. This action can help me be aware of how much I am eating and the times I tend to eat too much. Looking at my chart I know is not a good way to have a good heath. This assignment help me understand that if I want to eat healthier and if I want to feel better I should read the nutrition facts label. Now with this assignment I know the right tool to balance my diet. For examples I can use the label when I am shopping, as my plan of meals, and as I cook each day. The label makes it easy to determine the
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are
The corporate food industry and industrialization of agriculture today have revolutionized the growing and buying of food for farmers and consumers. To see how it has transformed the system, one can look at the effects industrial agriculture has caused. Economically, it creates million of jobs that keep people employed and keeps food affordable, but has regrettably created subsidies too. In terms of health, mass production of agriculture has created new health risks that endanger the lives of both producers and consumers, as well as encourage bad eating. As a result, the industrialization of agriculture has both good and bad effects because it feeds the population cost-efficiently while benefiting the economy, but risks people’s health.
