What makes Folk music the White Elephant of the Age?

Folk music is a genre that is not listened to widely today, this alone shows how oxymoronic the genre is to itself not alone in comparison to other genres of the age. Folk music of the mid-20th century is different from all other popular music like Rock n Roll; Folk Music is a fusion of traditional music like American Indian Music to Blues, while Rock n Roll is a fusion of music associated with the lower class like Rhythm and Blues, White Country Music. The songs that created these genres came from the very same generation, Generation Y. Rock n Roll in a sense represents their rebellion against their parents while Folk music resembles their empowerment as young adults in society. While both of these genres highlight important stages of this generation rooted deeply in the lower socioeconomic class the musical style differed greatly. The Folk tune We shall overcome eludes to the racial and socioeconomic divides in society that were brought forth by the baby boomer generation. In the lyrics it says,” We will walk hand in hand, someday” heads the barriers of racial segregation and talks about the unity which is longed for. This altruistic idea of helping everyone is a distinct character of folk music compared to Rock N Roll being all about love and the desire for relationship. In the lyrics of Can’t buy me love talks about all of the treasures money can bring to a relationship and the importance of a relationship for this generation growing up as teens. This idea of being self-evolved and fulfilling the cultural desire of young individuals being in a relationship displays the central idea of Rock n Roll,
